Halo 3 ODST and Relic map for Halo MCC releasing next month

Wait. I thought all of this was confirmed free essentially when they were announced as being redone. Is that incorrect. Fuck that if I have to pay for this

If you played before December 19th, you get ODST for free.
Everyone gets Relic in H2A.

We're almost at the polished stage guys! Looking forward to playing ODST again and checking out the Relic remake. Hopefully BTB can go back to 8v8 now.

Nah its just people quitting pre-game when something is voted on they dont want. The Halo community doesnt want join in progress so they is what you get. No JiP worked back in Halo's heyday but times have changed and gamers are different. It just doesnt work in 2015. Halo stubbornly wants to be the only game to do it and look at the result. The entire online aspect is potentially ruined because of this design choice. The proof is in the pudding.

Fantastic post. I used to think JIP was crap, but now I've completely reversed my thinking. Players today quit early, often, idle like mad. 343 will get attacked by the hardcore (nothing new), but they need to change this. It will keep teams even and games populates.

JIP has always been the lesser of the evils that come with matchmaking. I've never understood how people could prefer quitters and lopsided matches for the duration of the match instead.

JiP is fine as long as you keep the same people in matchmaking between games. I think skill rankings and punishments do a decent amount to prevent quitting though. Way fewer people quit in ranked playlists in the MCC.

JIP isn't the worst thing but matches in Halo are quick that a turnaround is unlikely and people leave matchmaking for the next match anyway. I think if BTB is larger, longer and a constant rotation of maps JIP would be ideal.

Tried to play 2 matches the other night and got booted midway through each game. It's a shame as I used to play so much Halo. I'll jump back on again to play the ODST campaign though.

Any news on new achievements?

have 343i said anything about people who purchased the game after the 19th of Decemebr getting ODST free as well? Since the game wasn't working properly until way after that time period.

Also, has 343 said anything about adding more than 3 maps in the HCS playlist? lol

Pretty disappointed that Fire Fight isn't included with the DLC, I was pretty much just hanging out for that.

Yeah because Halo 4 didn't have quitters or lopsided matches right? No it also had matches that became losses as soon as you joined, matches where you are put into games on the losing team that everyone bailed on and you have no hope of catching up or winning.

JiP was shit in Halo 4 and that's why they got rid of it for H2A and isn't likely coming back for Halo 5. Want to prevent quitters and lopsided matches? Maybe it's high time quit penalties were added and newer ways of preventing quitters appeared. Imagine if you couldn't rejoin any match until the one you quit out of ended. Add in losses to ranks, and you can dissuade a lot. Just look at the change before they added the quit penalty in MCC. It's nowhere near as bad as it was a few months ago now that it impacts global player rating.

Join in Progress works in Call of Duty because map control makes no difference, neither does team play or team shooting and power weapons are not existent due to load outs. A guy can jump in, equip a sniper and go to town, he can join in, start running around with an SMG etc. In Halo, if you join in progress, especially with shit like AR starts, against any capable team, you have little hope. They'll hold the key map positions, they'll have BR and DMR equipped or power weapons like rockets, etc.

ive always been fine with JIP as long as its unranked and the match is far less than half over.

Unranked or not it doesnt change the fact that JiP has no place in Halo. IMO

Only function Halo MP needs is Auto kick. Something like the Battlefield games do. Not moving for 2 minutes? goodbye.

This is the response that JiP haters say every single time - and its simply not true. A huge chunk of JiP brought people in at the start of the match when initial quitters bailed when something was voted on that they didnt want. Rememder hearing "teammate joined" constantly in the beginning in the match? Also JiP usually swung the match back in favor and at least made teams fair again. Ive seen TONS of matches that swung back they other way when a team got new teammates.

Just look at the state MCC is in with uneven teams. It tells you all you need to know about Halo's outdated system. People quit in Halo the second 1 flag is capped, the moment they go down by 5 kills, even if someone else picks up "their" sniper rifle. The community is completely abysmal. JiP detractors are basically asking for a Halo honor system - and to trust that people wont quit. Good luck with that.

As far as solutions to the quitting problem go, JiP isn't a very good one. I don't think it's as bad as some make it out to be, but there's much better answers.

JiP's problem is that in a sense, it encourages quitting, since you know that your leaving will have minimal impact on the match. It's also rough on people who join late and end up in untenable positions.

I prefer quit penalties. A solution I've seen in some MOBAs is to not let you start a match until the one you left is finished, with the option to rejoin. For people who have to quit due to circumstances IRL, it's not a problem, and people who quit needlessly or because they don't want to screw up their KDA are kept out of matches as much as possible. Other punishments involving ranks and stats are a possibility as well, but I prefer the elegance of the first option.

The only outdated thing in Halo is that there was no quit penalties in unranked playlists, and if there were, it was shit (Reach's 15 minute crap). The community was never punished for quitting unless you were in ranked, and well, right now there is barely any ranks.

MCC is doing it right by instituting a system wide quit penalty and I hope it continues into Halo 5 and quitting gives even more penalties. JiP would just be a band aid and encourage players to continue to quit.

"Oh I don't have the Sniper. Quit"

Join in progress next match

"Oh I'm down 5 kills. Quit"

Join in progress next match

"Oh I'm down 2 team mates. Quit."

JiP does nothing to help fix matchmaking.

This. Its worrying how large a chunk of the Halo fanbase is flat out stuck in the past.

So do both. JiP will speed up matchmaking times. Which is most important imo.

Because no one likes joining a game in progress were they have zero chance of winning. If you're going to put JIP in, let me toggle it. The amount of times I've joined games in Destiny, Halo 4 and Call of Duty were I have no chance of winning is awful.

I jip a game where it is a foregone conclusion. I play til the end without giving a single fuck. I am just happy to be playing. But I am also someone who doesn't care about ranks of any other number next to my name in cyberspace.

There should be stiff penalties for quitters I agree, but it fucks the game for the rest when people quit whatever the penalty!

I want jip in all honesty. Especially for social and BTB

So what? You play your best, and finish out the game. Next round is a fresh start. That's way better than dealing with quitters that aren't replaced.

I never knew Halo lacked jip. I assumed it was messed up with the rest of the online.
