VRFocus: Big Morpheus push at Sony presser, half of their booth devoted to it

http://vrfocus.com/archives/16369/project-morpheus-e3/

VRFocus has been told by sources close to SCE that Project Morpheus will be seeing a ‘big push’ at the company’s annual press conference on 15th June 2015. Following that, ‘around half’ of its booth space, which is already known to be sizeable, will be devoted to showing the device. Videogames on display are said to be ‘first-party and exclusive Morpheus titles’ only, meaning anything also appearing on the Oculus Rift or HTC Vive won’t be featured. Many of these titles will have likely already been revealed in that press conference.

Cool.

Logistically speaking, Morpheus demo 'units' will need more space anyway so it kind of makes sense even if, in total, half the games at the booth are not Morpheus games.

Makes sense because this will probably be the only E3 before it launches.

Just hope it doesn't take up too much time from the conference itself.

This doesn't really fill me with hope for the press conference.
I have absolutely no interest in VR. Fingers crossed it's not that prominent in the actual press conference.

I'm curious to see this because VR from an outsider's perspective doesn't really seem like interesting tech to watch being demoed.

Good idea to get started on this stuff early. Also being the most affordable solution should give it a good amount of buzz.

Yeahhh. Almost makes me feel like getting a cliff's notes version of the conference. >_>

Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Hopefully it is minimal at the actual conference.

I agree with this.
I mean I'm glad it's got a big presence at their booth, but at the conference I could do without seeing one guy on stage experiencing it and explaining his experiences to the audience.

Well, it's a bit unclear what a 'big push' at the press conference will actually mean. A quarter to one third of the conference would be 'a big push' IMO, and there's more than demos to discuss - latest update on the tech, maybe retail plans etc.

I think it's enjoyable watching people play though. Having someone on stage playing a demo that people can see on a screen, particularly demos involving motion and hand interaction etc. is engaging. I've loved watching people play the Heist demo, and the castle demos. Lots of scope for spontaneous, unexpected stuff in demos like that that's entertaining to watch.

Hype.

I am old (just turned 37) and I welcome our VR overlords.

Figure I'm in for both a Morpheus and an Oculus at this point as each will have their own experiences.

VR is going to be HUGE and Sony is going to have the cheapest all around package.

They need to make this a big deal.

wow. I would be shocked if they devoted any significant amount of time with VR at their conference. On the show floor, sure that seems realistic.

Showing off Morpheus a lot/and or talking too much about it at the press conference itself will be lame. Let people experience it for themselves at the booths. That's what it's meant for. I hope they dedicate their time to more meaningful games at the presser.

It also doesn't seem like something I'd buy, but I'm still interested to see how they're gonna market it and what types of games they're making for it, etc.

So far, they have been saying that VR cannot be experienced in a theatre and you have to be hands on with it. If they'll focus on it so much during the conference, I wonder how they'll present it.

Also, kinda sucks that half their floor is dedicated to it. That means less space for other games, be it aaa or indies.

If true this will be a fantastic conference to watch live. I cannot wait. Seismic game changing VR experiences or some dude talking about a TV show no one cares about, I know which one I'd prefer seeing a lot of!

If true we'll probably get a final name and maybe even a price point but that does feel a bit premature perhaps unless it launches Xmas instead of early next year (which is the bombshell u-turn announcement I'm desperately hoping comes true).

Oh man I can't wait for E3.

2 hours of Morpheus, PS plus video add ons, New tv series like Powers season 2, game partnerships with Ubisoft, Activision and EA with exclusive footage of AC, COD and SW BF.

Because....different. You know, its different.

I'm excited, hope they (or some company) can pull off this tech correctly.

To experience it first hand you have to obviously be hands on. But the idea of others observing someone play is built in to the thing with the TV split out etc. I don't think it is any more unusual than watching someone play a regular game. Harder, perhaps, to relate entirely to what the person is experiencing if one has never experienced VR before, but still quite reasonable to watch and enjoy what's going on.

I dare say watching others play in VR, and their reactions/immersion, only sparks interest in onlookers. Again, maybe I'm unusual, but I've found it interesting to watch others playing in VR, seeing them and simultaneously what they see on a screen, and I have yet to try VR myself.
