Devil's Third disappears from "Future Releases" section on North American Wii U eShop

I feel this deserves its own thread.

With August release date announcements for Devil's Third in Japan and Europe, and absolutely nothing announced for North America, I started to get a bit nervous.

With the game's compete absence from E3 in any form, I started to get worried.

And now, Devi's Third is no longer mentioned in the "Future Releases" section of the North American Wii U eShop , where it's been featured since last summer.

North American Itagaki fans, it may be time to lose hope. I'm not sure what Nintendo of America is thinking. Maybe this is all a big misunderstanding and the game is actually releasing here...but things really aren't looking good.

I start to wonder why Nintendo even bothered getting that Game.

It's not even going to count as First-Party IP like TW101, or is it?

it was just a matter of time before NOA started screwing the pooch again. They had been making too many logical decisions as of late.

I think that Valhalla owns the IP, but this game isn't leaving the Wii U anytime soon.

It will not cease to amaze me that NoA is completely uninterested in publishing anything this summer.

Don't worry, Reggie will give a statement about how he knows you want it, but unfortunately he doesn't have anything to declare about it at this moment.

From the other thread:

Bullshit. Nintendo of Europe can release a physical copy even with only English and French but NOA can't. This second-class treated is stupid considering there are more Wii U owners in North America who also buys more games.

Itagaki still seems pretty positive on Facebook recently still. He probably has a third-party publisher. Which ironically may be for the best as it looks like Fatal Frame won't have a physical release in NA.

If Devil's Third has a physical release through a third-party publisher and Fatal Frame doesn't through Nintendo that will just saw how horrible NOA is.

Maybe they decided to release it for NX since they'll probably announce it next year.
Just a hunch. Like what Sony did for TLG.

The game just got new gameplay footage so I doubt it's canned. Just going to a different publisher I suppose.

It's definitely not canned, if you talk about ceasing development. Japan had new footage, developer interview and release date. Europe got meaty press-release and release date.

Why did Nintendo save this game again?

Nintendo seemed to want to capitalize on the character-action genre from the beginning of the Wii U's launch. I'm not sure why it took so long for them realize that God of War and DMC have 90% of that pie to themselves, but here we are.

And NoA continues to cement itself as the worst possible branch of any video game company in the industry (and that includes Xbox Japan).

I don't think anyone is thinking it's canned. It has a relatively recent release date in Japan and Europe. The question is all NA at this point.

We can always import it if it doesnt come over .... :(

well, assuming you import a different region Wii U too.

Region locks + Nintendo's inability to release a steady stream of games on either of its platforms is just the worst. Makes the droughts that much worse. Like really, doesn't this make it so there's no retail first party Wii U games in June, July, and August being released in the US? Kinda embarassing.

I don't understand this either. Yoshi, Fatal Frame, or Devil's Third could have all been ready for July or August releases, if NoA had scheduled as such. Instead, we get a 3-month drought and they get crammed into the last few months of the year (if Devil's Third comes at all).

I'm guessing NoA don't see it worthy of their money given their overhead and potential sales, which is really sad.

Their internal forecasts for the game probably didn't justify the expense of them releasing it and marketing it. But I'd rather it got a quiet release like one from NoE than no release at all from them. It going to another publisher, like The Last Story did, is probably the most likely outcome.

Rob Fahey summed it up best in an article about marketing and videogames. While his message was about independent developers, there were a couple of paragraphs on the reality of big publishers marketing bigger videogames.

This is weird and would it would get another publisher didn't this got funded Nintendo and is published in Japan by them?

Did any game journalist at E3 have the cojones to ask Reggie wtf happened to this game and when it was going to be released? I think a lot of GAF and many western journalist care very little about this game, but I am all for trying this game out even with all of its faults and quirks.

got a bad feeling about this. nothing shown (or in the case of NA, not shown) about this game has left me feeling like I will be picking this up.
