i'll say it as many times as i need to, awesome japan does not reflect on yu suzuki.I'm beginning to doubt this game will cross 50,000 backers which is hardly singing praises for the series reach or its importance (puts the announcement in perspective).
If the kickstarter is this unplanned I also think its a bad sign for the actual development. This is all very early stage stuff, compared to some games that will at least have a general consensus of what its to be.
So when this game releases, are we all still buying a copy besides the one we are entitled to, just to ensure the series makes a profit and we can possibly see Shenmue 4? I plan to buy at least a few copies.
Rough day on the campaign trail.
pretty much how i'm feeling right now. i know there won't be much progression until the last big surge. i think that'll at least send it over 6 million though.I say this as someone who has been keeping a fairly comprehensive spreadsheet tracking hourly funding changes (I've missed a handful here and there, and obviously don't update when I'm asleep) for the last 11 days, until we get some movement on new funding tiers, or even a sense of an increased focus on pushing the campaign from Ys Net and Awesome Japan, people need to be prepared for a rough ride.
If people don't think they can handle that, they maybe need to exercise some self-discipline and keep that browser page that's been locked on the Kickstarter page closed.
"Shenmue 3 is coming! YEAH!" So says the internet at large. But who would dare betray their ignorance and whisper the damning question that's causing tell-tale question marks to appear above so many heads: What the fuck is Shenmue? And quite rightly. Why should people know? The original Shenmue came out on Dreamcast in 2000 and the sequel was last ported to Xbox in 2003. That's 12 years ago. Assuming you'd need to have been older than the 11+ age rating to play and understand the game properly, and played both versions, you'd need to be at least 26 years old now to care at all.
Oh, but you should. Ignore what you've been told about the game. Let me answer the questions the internet has undoubtedly put in your mind. And, for the record, this isn't based on nostalgia I recently played through all of Shenmue 1 again (on a real Dreamcast, of course) and it's still gorgeous. Let's get sweaty. Erm that is a line from the game. Not trying to put you off, here.

It's been a really disappointing campaign. That goes without saying.
I have to admit though, I thought there were a few more Shenmue fans out there waiting for this. Now though, I think there's probably only been 50k people clamouring for this all along. Surely, there can't be any fans out there just sat on their hands at this point.

Huge fan of Shenmue since day one, and I haven't pledged yet. Still waiting on the promise of a PS4 physical copy, but if that doesn't come to fruition then I'll just put my money towards a reward that already exists at some point during the last day.

The social media presence is non-existent.
Considering I've informed a few old fans about it myself, it's very possible they just haven't kept up with gaming news and have no idea. Hence why it's still important to try to spread the news.

your posts in this thread are always along the lines of "wow this kickstarter is run badly" and "guess there aren't that many shenmue fans after all".
i wonder why. are you stuck in the echo chamber or are you just driveby posting for the sake of it?
I just think this KS has been rushed out of the door for Sony conference and they were simply not ready.
But it's still going to reach 4m in the next few days and easily surpass 5m by the end.
Btw I still haven't pledged

And some people just don't want to put money into a Kickstarter. I know quite a few of them myself. I've also seen comments from Shenmue fans who don't want to pledge on Kickstarter because they feel like they're being ripped off (all those new stretch goals turned quite a few people off).
Me ? I pledged as soon as I got back from the Sony conference (you could see me standing up for Yu Suzuki on the Sony stream). I just want the game to be made and to be as good as it can be.
Yeah. I have pledged, but my pledge remains at the $29 level. I will gladly increase it for physical PS4. I would increase it upwards to $175 if one of those tiers includes the PS4 physical.
After hearing a number of you saying you haven't pledged yet, I think they are sitting on a really huge potential boost with the PS4 physical copy. If there is only one more change they ever would make to the kickstarter, better it be that than anything thing else. We're talking hundreds of thousands of a boost.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's a lot of people like me. After all, someone has to spur the final day huge numbers right?
Will the boost be enough to cover manufacturing costs though?
don't make me go into your post history son because we know that's not trueI've made literally one post saying something about the Kickstarter being run badly, and that's the post you quoted which I made a few minutes ago.
I want this to happen as much as anyone here, but I want to see it done right. As someone who's intimately close to modern game development, I know you don't make a game like Shenmue for five or even ten million. And that's what worries me, we're not going to get the satisfying sequel we all crave.
i hope that those of you who are reading this and haven't donated yet will do the right thing before the deadline for the kickstarter. this is our one shot at contributing to shenmue 3. whether it's not coming out on a platform you want, or you didn't like some of the direction the game is going in, or you just thought the kickstarter sucked, just remember that starving the game of funds is only going to limit how much it can do. don't wait for the final version to come out to impress you. make a difference to the game right now.

I know they are cheaper already mentioned that. But you really think Shenmue HD is only going to generate 40k sales at most? The return on investment is there, especially if the rumors that they are ready to go are true. Shenmue 3 will probably wind up selling at least 250k+ copies if we are just going by kickstarter trends.

Yeah, I don't see how any Shenmue fans couldn't have already pledged.
Away from thinking about the end, Shenmue III is ~100k away from overtaking Mighty No.9 to become the 4th highest funded game and 12th highest funded overall Kickstarter ever.
On Shenmue Dojo we have been working at getting our concerns about Awesome Japan addressed. Cedric Biscay, head of Shibuya productions seems to be listening.

unsubstantiated claim, but might be accurate considering shenmue was using a lot of very new technology from companies that may have since been bought up, gone under, or had their assets and intellectual property sold off several times over. The sales will largely be dependent on how much Sega intends to charge for the remasters. What price will the market accept? I don't think they can hit 250K if it's a $20-40 package. If they charge like $5-7 they will sell more but of course that drastically reduces revenue.
People always seem to think that remasters are like this simple and cheap process, but going but they can and do cost a good deal of money and there's plenty of stuff that can go wrong (Silent Hill HD, Tony Hawk HD). I thought the games were caught up in some legal limbo anyway, due to some of the game engine using licensed middleware.
