Nolan North says Naughty Dog is making a sequel to 8+ mil selling game The Last of Us

Woah, this is still trending! The thirst is all kinds of real.

(Nolan, if you want to give us the scoop on Half-Life 3, there would be a lot of grateful people out there. Just put 'Half-Life 3' and 'confirmed' in a sentence and we're gold.)

I don't think that the sequel is obvious and I don't think that I want a second and probably last ND PS4 game to be another sequel.

From a publisher perspective it's inevitable, they aren't going to leave that money on the table. The first game was huge.
You seem to be assuming ND will only make 2 PS4 games, there's no way they'll only have 2 releases on the system.
The problems surrounding UC4 definitely messed with their release schedule a lot but sony knows that everything that comes out of that studio is gold so they will be given resources to make up for it. I'm sure the plan was to release at least 3 games and they'll find a way to stick to it.

Ok Nolan, it's time to shut up now. I can't imagine Naughty Dog is happy to have him speak out about unannounced projects like this and the fact that he is sounds like trolling, especially when it came right after his comments about the Amy Hennig situation.

I don't know if they can do a sequel to the last of us. Maybe it can work with different protagonists, but I don't know if it can work with
a grown up Ellie
. If they do the latter, I want Druckmann to deal with the theme of love. But as long as it's a Naughty Dog game, I'm in.

I didn't want a sequel but who am I kidding, it was always going to happen after the reception to the first.

I just think it would've been a brave and bold statement to the industry as a whole if TLoU was a standalone game and nothing more. Some things just really don't need a sequel.

I have a feeling a lot of the industry would've seen it as a bad move to not make a sequel.

I***ts like you are fodder for companies like them.

Out of all of your post the part you thought need censored was 'Idiots'
Seriously?

What's funny is that a lot of us are saying that we don't need a sequel but I can assure you that the moment that first teaser/trailer hits, hype will be through the fucking roof and all these arguments will fly out the window lol.

Expect if we see
Ellie
or
Joel

I am surprised that people are surprised a game that was a critic's dream and sold millions of copies on TWO systems is getting a sequel.

Naughty Dog... As the Great Archbishop LeBouf the Redeemer once said... JUST DO IT

Expect if we see
Ellie

Joel
Nah. The hype will still be through the roof.
It's not like their story is over. There's always more to tell.

Oh, I'll probably be excited for it. Anything Naughty Dog makes is usually great. I'd be far more excited for something new though.

Yeah, he's clearly being a total dick here.

Please be true. I don't see why people are against it. If you enjoyed TLOU surely you'd want more? It doesn't have to be the same character's. Doesn't have to be the same location. Even if it doesn't turn out that great it won't ruin the original game.

Everyone fears a direct sequel, but at the same time they are surely keenly aware of what it would mean to follow up the first game directly.

It could be immensely powerful if done right.
This. They left it wide open and a sequel can be better than the original.

Well, if Uncharted 4 is Drake's last game, he might be done with Naughty Dog anyway. :p

Trending where, Twitter? I don’t see it in my Trends =/

I would greatly prefer
new characters, with maybe a cameo of Joel/Ellie. Their relationship at the end of the game doesn't need much else, the ending was perfect

I'm going to miss Joel. He is one of my favorite shit kickers in all of gaming. Oh you have Ellie?
Let me torture your friend in front of you to make you spill then kill you.
He acts exactly like I would expect in that bleak world.

Holy shit, are you, like 12? Seriously.

Anyway, OT, I would love to play as an older Ellie in the sequel, but I guess I'm cool with new characters as well. Either way, the universe that ND created is just way too good to be left behind after just one game. However the sequel turns out, I'm positive that it will be a GOTG contender.

Pretty sure TLOU2 was confirmed when the first iteration sold over 6 million copies. It's basically Sony's first party money printing press, outside of Uncharted, GoW, GT, and their stranglehold on MLB.

I'm all for a sequel, but please don't cheapen the events of the first game by rehashing them and
Ellie wanting to sacrifice herself or something
. That's like killing a character and then resurrecting him in a sequel - it diminishes all the impact. Joel and Ellie deserve to be left alone.

The atmosphere, though, is ripe for a gaiden.

Ever since Sony started bundling TLOUR with every PS4 it's pretty obvious that a sequel is in development. Probably won't see it until like 2018 or so.

I'd say 2017. Keep in mind Naughty Dog has enough staff to handle two projects at the same time. And Uncharted 4 will be on overtime in 2016. Their next game will almost certainly be revealed at either PlayStation Experience or next E3.

TLOU2 is like the worst kept secret in the industry by now. They've done all but officially announce it for the last 18 months. We saw concept art, people's resumes with the game on it, etc. Nolan isn't telling us anything we didn't already know.

Would be cool if they change up the location a bit. Maybe some other continent or something. Joel's and Ellie's story is finished for me. No reason to explore Ellie's further life, just keep it as it is and let players decide what happened to her.

With Troy's latest comment:

"You know, spoiler, when you go from the prologue and then credits and then cut to 20 years later, you see a completely different guy," I wonder if they would set the game at least partially in the events between outbreak and the 20 year jump. But at the same time, I feel that a sequel would either pick up where they left off, feature a grown up Ellie, or an entirely different cast. So I dunno what to make of that comment.

Concept art and resumes? Really? I thought the only piece of "concept art" was just a piece of fanart from one of the devs. Not particularly meant as anything canonical.

You make a very good point. We know some shit happened between that span. Very important things to shape the man we saw 20 years later. Things that would change every single one of us here, which these people who are so hung up on him "paying for his crimes" fail (I suspect on purpose, no one can be that obtuse to those events not shaping someone) to grasp.

It would definitely make for some good connection to Joel and then he was/is.

As long as they leave the Ellie and Joel story alone and start with fresh and new people. The ending to The Last of Us was fine as it is, no reason to reuse characters and no need for a direct sequel.

When an artist on the game creates a piece of art of an older version of a character from multiple angles, wearing drastically different clothing than they've ever worn before, that is concept art, plain and simple.

It used to be on Michael Knowland's LinkedIn page but it was removed a long time ago. I posted a screen capture earlier.

Multiple angles? Can you post what you're talking about?

Multiple angles? Wtf? I'm talking about the one piece of art that was created as a dedication to the character Ellie, and a possible look at her as an older girl. It was just a nebulous piece of art created and was shot down as a piece of official concept art by the creator.

That I'll believe.

I don't want to turn this into console wars but I can't help but notice that people are annoyed at Sony for making sequels for their successful IPs like Uncharted or GoW and now TLoU while asking MS for more Halos and Gears, why is that honestly?

Personally I am on the camp of new IPs over sequel but for the TLoU I want a sequel with Ellie as main character so bad it just feel right to have grown up Ellie or late teens Ellie staring the next TLoU

2 Last 2 Us - Experience this all new adventure as a grizzled Ellie with a beard gets in over her head through gambling debts and must now race against the clock...LITERALLY.

Perfect segway into the long awaited go kart game featuring Drake from Uncharted.

I'm still surprised people don't trust ND to make a satisfying sequel staring Joel and Ellie.

With the depth of understanding they showed in the first game, I think they'll be able to pull it off.

They can go either way and I'd be fine.

If anything, it's just as likely that people complain that their new characters aren't as good as Joel and Ellie were.
