No local split screen for Halo 5 at all? Campaign or MP...

Thinking about this more... if the SP game is 900p60 rock solid then I am okay with it.

If it is 720p60 then no dice, I'd rather have split screen co-op at that res.

The lack of guests is seriously the best thing that could have happened to Halo. Get that mess out of here. 9/10 they're griefing, dropping neg bombs, or just plain bad. It won't be missed whatsoever.
So halo is only for the elite?
C'mon man read what you wrote

"get that mess that has been a staple of the series and what broadened it's appeal out of here'

That's what you sound like when you post.
It won't be missed by you.... But you're not everyone

For the love of god why do i have to unlock things in modern game design. Just make the gameplay fun and everything unlocked from the start. I'll play longer and have a better time.
You'll play longer if you have to unlock things that why.

Oh you just got killed by that guy with that gun with that scope with that camo?

I mean guns sure, but cosmetic armor should be unlockable. Reward the best / most dedicated players with cool stuff. It makes it more fun.

Truly an epic showcase of mental gymnastics. God forbid you just ban guests from serious arena playlists and let them have fun in social playlists.

Totally fine with it as long as those resourses are used to better the main game.

You know halos a huge franchise when every time you turn around it has giant threads of people blasting it.

It's people 'blasting' it for legitimate reasons though. People that play the game.

Endless blasting sadly. We're in a for something special this fall, from what we've seen so far.

This suggestion can't be serious. Yes, we all have XBL accounts but there is always occasions when friends are over hanging out, and the idea to pick up a controller and bullshit and play Halo on the same screen occurs, especially during the holidays. This experience is what many perceived as magical in Halo is now not possible because of 343.

Did you read my post? I said you hit a stage in life when its not an option, or one that occurs RARELY.

All my friends have jobs, kids, wives and just lives in general. Gaming time at all is getting rarer let alone time to go to a friends place to split a screen.

My wife and I played through every single Halo with split-screen co-op.

Feels weird not picking up this one, especially since a new Halo was a big reason why I got an Xbox One. My fault for assuming that feature was guaranteed :p

I see the req packs are something similiar to Pokemon packs. Half the fun is getting the packs, then opening them and finding out whats inside.

Having everything would take so much out of it. If you have everything day 1, you're going to choose your favourite armour and skin day 1 and have no reason to change it.

Actually the lack of guests playing Halo in some playlists are kind of nice. In the ranked playlists i think its just people who have an XBL account so you dont get the "Hey lets fuck around" guys. In halo 2 they handled that well by allowing them into a team training playlist which was for the best. Cant stand guests in the main slayer playlists.

We must have different definitions of earning something. I paid full retail price for the game, give me the content on the disc thank you.

This...this can't be a serious post...

What kind of friends that live so close would do not want to be together? Like what?

Yea I wasn't even going to bother lol.

The kind of friends who have to juggle the hobby of video games with work, university, relationships, etc. Video games have taken a back burner to everything. Friends do come over, hell we watched pretty much all of the playoffs for hockey together. But why come over to play Halo? Why would we split screen? If we want to play so badly we just do Xbox Live, for games like NHL 15 etc.

I barely even touch my Xbox One. I'm just saying it happens, and is the case for a lot of grown ups.

If you think the 60fps limit is the reason that splitscreen was cut, you're a fool.

Enlighten us wise one because no one would take this out without good reason. This thread is a halo morn hate, disappointment, the end of halo is nigh , and defend thread. why in gods name would they want subject themselves to more pr hate and accusations.

I'm going to pretend I didn't read that
Nope, can't..

Cause
Why not just give me all the Pokémon from the start of the game
Why not just unlock all the abilities in mass effect 3 as soon as I take the disc out.

Don't ever play battlefield, you'll feel like you wasted your $60

Haha nah, Halo is not going anywhere, it takes place in space, that means infinite possibilities

You're missing the point, not everyone is a hard core gamer that owns every system.

My friends either don't want or can't afford an Xbox 1 just for one game, they rather come here, the only person in our circle of friends that has a Xbox one, and play split screen, as we have been doing for years.

Some people get together and play poker, we play video games, it's fun with friends in person you should try it again sometime.

Play the game and youll earn everything on the disc.

Bingo. It's called a "hook" and the idea is to keep gamers hooked. This isn't some 343 invention- literally every game had progression unlocks now. It's popular. It's fun. It makes you want to keep playing and get better.

Most people don't respond that way. Reacting better to progress/reward feedback is more or less a given, when it comes to players. That's been a known since the earliest instances of game design, right down to pen-and-paper role playing.

You're saying that fewer players means fewer chances for bad experiences. The same controls for muting/blocking/reporting exist whether or not the person on the other end is a guest or a full account. I'm not saying we need to huddle in the dirt, clad in sackcloth and wailing at the heavens at this travesty, but let's not pretend it's an improvement.

Earn it? More often than not it is just a time sink that anyone can get regardless of skill if they put in enough hours.

I much prefer halo 1/2 style multiplayer or even Halo 3 with armor unlocks. The idea of weapons/abilities being tied to unlocks is just annoying.

If the only reason I'm playing your game is to unlock weapon X the game isn't very fun.

I don't remember unlockables being a big deal in Halo 1-2. I even liked getting recon armor in 3. locking content behind a time sink is just bad design unless it is required by the games story.

Local co-op is what Halo is about for me. Online split-screen is also a big deal.

It's possible I still get the game, but it's kinda sad that so many things that made Halo great in the first place are gone or have changed beyond recognition.

Just last week me and a friend started up the MCC, and playing through a few levels in Halo:CE with original graphics then jumping to Halo 4 made me sad. Talk about losing the soul/heart/whatever on the way.

Why is that a bad thing?

For me, Id equate that to starting Pokemon and right away getting to choose the exact 5 Pokemon you want to take through the entire game there and then. You'd never need to catch or bother looking at anything else.

Unlocking, earning and collecting stuff is fun imo. It's worked in any number of games already. I think Halo is a good fit for what they've outlined so far.

Developers just cannot win, can they?

Unlocks are fantastic, if they're reachable and fair. Even harder ones are great because it's a bit of a bragging right. In this day and age, you're lucky it isn't DLC. I personally and not a fan of everything being unlocked from the off. You earn as you go. I'm done with this view of accessibility is top priority and that everything is there from the get go with the only new thing to ever come is paid for. Nope.

Similar to the Pokémon reference above, I haven't enjoyed Forza games since every car and event was available from the off, with cars given and events selectable. I preferred the calender, with money saved to enter events with specific cars. I was playing a career, not just laps in different things at different places.

Not 343. People love to gang up and rain the complaints. It's the HaloGaf cycle!

And this happened to Bungie as well between 2 and 3 and between 3 and Reach, and even post Reach. The salt never ends.

It sure is. If you can get excited for the SP after the pathetic showing of Halo 5 at E3, it's no wonder complaints in this thread fall on deaf ears for you.

Wait, what's the new rage over the single player content?

Did you watch The Sprint? They go into the creation of that scene and how it was done and why they chose it. It's a great series.

No, I just wasn't impressed by a heavily CoD-esque scripted sequence to show off a Halo game.

Although the Sprint series was great to watch, it didn't make the demo showing any better.

Watching hard work and talent go towards something as misguided as a script hallway for a Halo game is not enjoyable to watch. Is that really THE BEST portion of a next gen Halo game to show at E3? When MCC was such a clusterfuck for them? What does that say about the entire campaign? If there's wide open spaces and awe-worthy moments, why not show them? The demo's completely scripted anyway....

I don't see how it was misguided but eh. To each their own. :p

It looked gorgeous, graphically, and getting the tease of the Warden was great for the speculative lore folks.

Yeah that demo wasnt the best to show even for E3. But Frankie did say in another thread the levels will be more open in the game. Which they will be showing over the course of the next few months.

'Why can't I just play the final boss level right at the start of the game, I paid for the disc, the content is mine'.

How did the thread shift from split screen discussion to complaining about customization and unlocking system? Since Halo 3 you've had to unlock stuff in Halo regarding player customization. The new REQ system is part of the Warzone experience. This is the carrot/stick game play mechanic that millions love and it's what has kept Destiny going. It wasn't the best in ME3 since you barely unlocked the stuff you wanted.

By keeping such unlocks behind progression and time spent, they are essentially guaranteeing you'd play the game to unlock it.

Frankie was also the guy writing the Bungie updates hyping Halo 2, the biggest disappointment in my gaming life. After that and 343 creating the weakest Halo game to date with 4, Frankie's word on cool combat scenarios in Halo 5 doesn't carry the hype it once did.

And who gives a shit about unlocks? The more you play the more stuff you have. Cool. What I am not cool with is fucking MICROTRANSACTIONS in halo multiplayer. The last week has basically made Halo 5 into a potential single player experience for me. What could the possibility be of a patch to add in legacy features? 5%? Microsoft flip flopped on their entire console after they announced it.

EDIT: Grasping at straws

Well to be fair, the MCC broke that cycle in the most brilliant way a cycle could be broken...

Yes. I'm a campaign guy and Halo CE was my favorite game of all time. Halo 2 in MCC is a vastly superior version, I still remember lamenting online co-op not making it into H2. Funny looking back. I'd much rather take the regular ol offline split screen,

This thread is all over the place. Here is a good example. Today I am going to a bbq that I do not wish to go to. The person is a loser but has MCC. While the girls go talk all day in another room the adults and young ones are playing MCC all day. Without this feature I would be forced to speak to people, instead I get to dong on them. In H5, this is no longer possible. Thanks Obama and 343.

That's not true at all. Most AAA games these days have XP systems with stuff to unlock. It's part of AAA checklist/comittee design, which is why some of us finds it boring, wasteful and woefully inappropriate for many different gameplay types. It makes everything seem like the same crappy grind.

Want me to be stuck for hours at your game? How about designing it so well that you don't need a grinding system to keep people occupied. In the old days it was about great level design, these days it's about grinding, drops and loot.. It's a horrible trend that needs to stop.
