New PS4 model (CUH-1200) announced

Mostly its going to come with MGS V(its been confirmed that Limited edition bundle using new model) or holidays.

Sooner than that, they're just waiting to get rid of the current units in the retail channels.
I think that most new consoles sold in September will be based on the new model.

Yea, I've actually been watching stock at local Targets/Walmarts, and they have done zero restocking in the last month. Many stores have been "sold out" the entire time where I live. IMO, it kind of hints towards a release sooner rather than later. Some sites have also said that it's coming in July, but I haven't seen anything official from Sony.

Facially CUH1200 doesn't give you any advantage over CUH1100 so Sony should fill supply chain as soon as previous model gets sold out.

I think you are right. While you can get one on Amazon, it's been through a third party seller for over a week at least.

Does anyone know when the 1200 is available in Europe? Can't really find any answers. Really want to get that model since my 1000 model literally dries hair (I have tried it).

Just sucks I'll be losing my 1TB drive :(

Why would you lose your 1TB drive?
Couldn't you just take it out and put it into the new console?

I could if I didn't threw out the PS4's box when I moved house. Turned out the HDD was in there. Live and learn.

cuh-1000 is going to be sold.

Edit: Just noticed I'm a member now. Hooray!

Don't know about dramatically. The top line from Sony's presentation shows the max noise level which sits at ~53dB while the phone test shows 57dB. Also. In which game is the phone test from? Different levels in the same game alone would make the graphs differ.

The top line is the temperature of the APU (in Celsius). The noise peak is reported as 37db (in game).

However, we don't know how those measurements were made (probably using better equipment than an Android phone's SmartTools app, I'd presume), and without that, we can't really get comparable values...

I'll be waiting for the CUH-1200 to come to EU before I buy a PS4. I really can't stand loud consoles and hopefully it will indeed be quiet. Sent tweets to Sony about when these might arrive but got no reply. They probably want to get rid of their stocks first.

Two things I want about CUH-1200:

1) Benchmark to see if the SSD performance has improved
2) Teardown with analysis on the thermal used

:p

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.

Did they upgrade to SATA III? SSDs are bottlenecked by SATA II in current models so the only way that's going to improve is if Sony updates their I/O.
Here some quick translation of that guy's teardown:

Following chips existed at previous models are now missing:
- Fujitsu USB 3.0-SATA bridge
- Marvell Ethernet LSI
- Genesys Logic USB 3.0 hub controller LSI

The secondary processor CXD90036G has direct connection to all of them (the guy speculates Sony may have eliminated USB3.0 - SATA conversion).
Here's hoping. Or am I reading this completely wrong?

Then those are bullshit digits. Sony themselves have another official presentation in regards to fan noise etc. where they explicitly state the launch model sitting at ~53dB average in-game.

Do you have a link? The presentation I linked (http://vr-zone.com/articles/sony-engineer-unveils-functional-beauty-ps4s-cooling-system/69852.html) contains the only official Sony information about fan noise I have been able to find, and they mention an average of 31dbA in game (using Killzone). It is worth mentioning that the units they are using are dbA (A-weighted decibels), but not sure if that is enough to account for the 22db difference...

EDIT: Noise levels in dbA:

Yeah, no way my PS4 is as loud as a "quiet living room". I call that early Sony presentation bullshit.

If SSDs were bottlenecked by SATA II they'd still transfer data more than twice as fast compared to the stock HDD instead of 10-40% faster.

Maybe this applies to just for limited edition covers but first guy who did audible noise report is saying they are indeed compatible with CUH-1200 (he put Toro-featured cover to new model, which was released before CUH1200 even existed). Maybe only OG cover comes with CUH1100 alone isn't compatible with CUH1200?

I was contemplating grabbing a PS4 like, today. I probably should wait.

When is the release date on this in the US? Have they said?

I think MGS5 bundle included the newer model so one would assume at least then the normal models have been replaced with this too.
It's already out in Japan so could be earlier too, Sony haven't announced any date though.

i think they are waiting to sell the stock available right now in before they silently release the new model here.

Hmm...OK. I'll probably wait until there's some confirmation. The upgrade isn't huge, but I might as well hold out a little longer if that's the case.

If you're OCD like me then I would hold out on noise alone. I've been through too many to count to finally come across a mostly quiet console.
