I'm 35, and in my lifetime there has only been Yamauchi and Iwata

I don't quite know how to process this.

I would've expected him to run things till his 80's as well

RIP

This is extraordinarily depressing news.

Thank you for all you for all the joy you have brought me through Nintendo Directs and Iwata Asks. RIP legend.

He stayed strong for us, and did a great deal for the world. He will definitely be missed.

Rest in Peace, Satoru Iwata.

This is incredibly sudden and unexpected. I always found him to be quite funny and lighthearted. Very tragic :(

Although I am curious. Is it too early to be asking who might take his position?

Holy crap, I'm gutted over this.

Brought my WiiU over to a friend's house to teach him how to play Splatoon and now I'm just shellshocked :(

Remember the joy of finishing pokemon Gold/Silver, then having Kanto opened up to you?

That was single-handedly the work of Iwata, who optimized the memory usage in the G/S ROM to the extent that they were able to add the entire kanto postgame content. And he was the main designer of Balloon Fight, and one of the main designers/programmers for the early kirby titles and Earthbound.

I am seriously so fucking depressed by this news

I can't remember the last time the death of a public figure hit me this hard

We'll never get that little friendly wave at the beginning of a Nintendo Direct again...

Holy FUCK. I can't believe this just happened. It came so out of leftfield. This is the first time I've ever felt so emotional about someone I don't even know personally and someone who is so well known. ;~;

RIP Iwata, such a legend. You never realize how important someone is until they're gone. :(

This really hits home cause he had the same incurable cancer my dad had who died way before his time.

Fuck Cholangiocarcinoma

Devastating news. :(

RIP Iwata - loved his enthusiasm/vigor that he had in his presentations and of course, loved the games that he worked on.
