From Earthbound to Pokémon, a HAL employee to CEO of Nintendo, yours is a legacy we will not forget. Rest in peace Iwata-san & my condolences to his friends & family.

Oh man. Death is never easy but this one really
hits hard. He always seemed so joyful and full
of life.

Thank you Iwata-San for all YOU did for video
gamers and Nintendo.

Rest well.

Sakurai's Statement:

"“The president of Nintendo, Satoru Iwata has passed away. He was my former employer, but even when my situation and location changed, he was always the most understanding [of me and my work]. A hard worker and a virtuous man, he always supplied me with quick, fair guidance. I believe that he was the greatest leader I could have imagined. May you rest in peace.”"

A friend told me the news over voice chat just now, and I couldn't believe it until I saw all sorts of news articles and this thread. Unbelievable. And I still don't want to believe it. He seemed so much younger than he was in both appearance and mannerism.

Thanks for the joy and fun you brought to the world. Rest in peace.

OMG...I'm shocked in one sense but in another I think we all feared he never fully recovered. The weight loss was easily visible and he hadn't looked healthy for a while.

RIP Iwata-San. I'm deeply saddened. No matter your current feelings towards Nintendo Iwata had a lot of passion and will surely be missed!

Edit: I would gladly take a avatar edit if someone is willing to help me.

Could someone add the ribbon to my avatar ? If you guys don't mind.

Damn bro, I actually cried over this , like, a lot, and i hardly cry for anything. Like, few times in my life i got as sad as i am now, it was like losing a parent, or someone you knew for a long time and always meant a lot for you. This guy represented Nintendo to me, and everything nice that this company ever brought, he will be forever remembered :(

Damn, that sucks. Didn't care for his some of his decisions as CEO but I know he's had his hands in a lot of great Nintendo games. And 55? What a young age to go. I feel sorry for his family and loved ones. RIP.

Is it too early and morbid to have a conversation on who the next CEO is? I'm curious.

The NX will be his legacy, hopefully it leads Nintendo back to promenance.

throughout a thread that reassures me of the inherent goodness of this forum, somehow this is the comment that makes me most at peace with the situation. let us hail this person and tender what he hath brought for now we are on our own and may squander the wealth we've known but come tomorrow we will remember the love that might grow.

I always liked listening to him, and I do not like much of what I hear from most bigwigs. By all accounts he cared about his staff, his company and gaming, which made him stand out. He always struck me as healthy and young for his age. I sincerely hope we beat cancer sometime soon. It takes too many good people while they have so much left to do.

RIP.

Here is a scaled down version for avatars, with a white glow to detach it from the background. And the original. It's quick and dirty.

Can I get a ribbon on my avatar as well. Really inspired me and got me into the gaming especially with Smash Bros. Still play it with my brother from time to time on our Gamecube!

I would feel really bad right now if I had criticized their puppet performance and lack of e3 news.

It's pretty clear that the company was struggling to get something together and we probably know why.
