SSB for 3DS & U - Tourney Mode, Youtube Replay DLC Stages and Mii Costumes (K. Rool)

To be fair, a Dr. Mario stage is inherently going to be whacky. A safe, static stage wouldn't suit the series.

The idea of the stage is fine, the stage just needs to be a tad bigger and the pills/viruses needs to be about half their current size. That one image with the viruses and pills all over barely gives room for 2 people to fight let alone 4. Then you add in items and moving pills and it looks like it'll just be a mess.

The size of the playing field looks equivalent to the NES screen in the back, so if the stage was any larger then the pills and viruses would have to be scaled up as well. The foreground and background are meant to mirror each other. They're both eight viruses wide.

I thought it was fake.

It's fake, so it's not on either version.

Disregard me lol I probably should have made my way through the rest of the thread before posting.

Also

The Dr. Mario stage looks rad. Though I kinda just think you could have the fight happen in the bottle and if players are launched against the sides enough then it shatters or something.

But yes it looks cool and I'm hopeful for more surprises even if it's not a character.

I feel like Smash Bros is overdue for a stage based on a puzzle game that changes in real-time (I initially thought Wario Woods, Tetris, or Pushmo was going to be it, but Dr. Mario is pretty good for it as well).

Though I wonder if this stage will be on the 3DS (if it can handle it).

Anyone else excited for the K. Rool Mii Fighter? And not ironically, I mean? I think it looks great. Dressing up as him is like dressing up as Godzilla or some other kaiju — a man in a rubber monster suit. It's just a bummer it can't be used in randoms online.
I'll probably buy the suit
Then pump him full with defense equips so he's the heaviest, slowest bastard in my game.

I still think the decision to make the K. Rool outfit based on his Rare design and not his modern design is a strange one.

Actually, just there being a K. Rool outfit is pretty impressive, considering it's the most the character's been acknowledged in like seven years and it's not like the series he's from is dead. It came from the ballot, it had to have. But I do think that's it for K. Rool.

The modern design is used in a bunch of shitty spinoffs, and the classic design is from the games that people actually remember K. Rool from.

Or we could read more into it and assume rare got bought back right? Am I crazy enough for smash gaf yet

Also, I'm usually pretty disinterested in Mii costumes, but I almost feel like picking up the Chrom and King K Rool costumes for the sheer dumb screenshot possibilities alone.

Fairly certain that this doesn't make a difference to most people. They could have used the modern design and it wouldn't have mattered.

That's the point. It doesn't matter either way, so maybe Sakurai just wanted to go with the more memorable design. I don't think there was some hidden agenda behind it.

Get Sega in on this Puzzle Stage Music

My first Puzzle Game and one of my favorite games as a kid was Doctor Robonik's Mean Bean machine, this is the Player 2 music from it

Nah, gotta be this :v

Oh shit, I remember this track! It was used for some of Picross DS' DLC puzzles.

Why do I have the strangest feeling that they'll just stop at Wolf & the Rhythm Heaven rep as far as Wii U/3DS DLC support goes & just relegate the ballot characters (plus the Ice Climbers for good measure) to a potential NX port?

Because Nintendo is laaaaazy. Where's Ridley Sakurai?

Doubt there will be an NX version tho. Not even Mario Kart gets ports.

Put it this way, the Wii U is a failing platform no matter how you slice it. And all signs point to the NX platform becoming a thing late next year. Iwata wanted a badass launch for the platform, & I'm pretty sure Nintendo's gonna honor his wishes. Since I doubt they can pull another Melee in terms of dev time in the era of HD gaming, just release a Smash 4 Championship Edition with the Ice Climbers, a few ballot characters (3, 5 tops), a few new stages, & every single 3DS-only stage that works on consoles. I'm in the party that believes that the NX Console will lack BC, so they'll likely ust make ports of the Wii U's most successful &/or biggest games that may not have sequels ready for launch (Smash 4, Splatoon, Mario Kart 8, Zelda U, etc.).

I think people were too hung up on the poll being an election rather than a suggestion box. It was always meant to be the latter.

They wouldn't put out the poll though and not at least pretend a character came from it. And Wolf and Chorus Kids wouldn't really come from the poll so people would be a little suspect of them not really using it.

There's probably a really great character idea that was submitted that we haven't even thought about. How many people thought Ryu was going to be a character or even considered him before he was released? Maybe there's another Ryu type character in the suggestions box they're working on.

Unrelated, but it's too bad it doesn't seem like the NES original Chill is there. Hopefully some other rip for Chill is on the stage.

Technically they would still be using the ballot for Smash 4, but instead as a hook to get people to buy the NX version of the game. But I do agree with there potentially being a solid idea in the ballot. My issue is that I'm pretty sure popularity is involved in some way (likely with Sakurai looking more closely at the Top 10 or so), so that unique character may be buried in the votes.

I feel like a potential NX port having exclusive characters would justifiably incite massive backlash and I don't think Sakurai would that, he already killed the Ice Climbers to maintain parity.

Every song should be available on every stage. Most of them would be set to 0% by default, but you should have the option of enabling them in a case like this. There are three perfectly good Dr. Mario songs that belong on a Dr. Mario stage.

I want all the puzzle games related music to be moved to the new Dr. Mario stage: Tetris, Panel de Pon and all the Dr. Mario remixes, which are all over the place.

But it won't happen.

It's never going to happen, but I'd get the biggest smile if this showed up.
In it's grand 8-bit glory.

The OG king of puzzle game themes. Grandfather to them all.

There are three songs we don't know yet.

Just give every stage 10 "slots" and let us just check songs to add to "My Music" per stage and set percentages there.

Having a massive list to set percentages too is overwhelming. Let us just check which ones we want and then set it from there.

The only thing an nx port of smash wiiu would have extra is all dlc included out of the box. No way would it get exclusive content at worst they'd let wiiu/3ds players buy it same day the nx version comes out.

I don't think roster parity would matter for a potential NX version if it was touted to be the definitive version of Smash.

Nooooooo! This means King K. Rool won't be a character, I guess my vote was for nothing... :(
This is like if I voted for Obama and then the Illuminati that controls the government gave me his flesh to wear instead

Goddammit, I want results

Not necessarily on account of the DLC Link costume, but you're welcome to change your vote if you really feel like he isn't getting in.

The 3ds version will still outsell a hypothetical NX port no way is Sakurai going to cut off the largest % of people who've bought smash 4. This also makes a big assumption that the nx will get a smash wiiu port and not just be backwards compatible with some wiiu games and accessories.

Captain Toad, Wonderful Red, Splatoon Squid Kids

How about Black Mage from Final Fantasy original. Maybe Kain from FFIV. In a perfect word I'd go with Crono or Frog or Skull Kid but alas, I think those ships hav elong sailed.

more I think about it the more rad Black Mage sounds. I wonder if Vivi kind of kills those chances since it's the same design.

Judging by the fact that PowerPC isn't handheld friendly (a deal breaker for Iwata's plan for the console & handheld being "like brothers"), is hard to develop for, & it's aging terribly, the odds of the NX Console being backwards compatible are quite slim.

As much as I'd love to see Smash Bros ported to NX and expanded, I can't really see it happening. It just makes too much sense, so I can't picture Nintendo doing it.
