It's a shame that no other TV manufacturer came up with an Ambilight competitor or licensed the technology from Philips.
Is there a reason to put a back light on a TV?Always do back lights on TV's, figured I'd do one on my PC monitor for a change;

It can compensate for poor black levels on a display in the dark, and they can also be programmed to work like Ambilight.
Then there's the decorative aspect, but that's a matter of taste.
Just received delivery of a Benq 1070 yesterday. Trialling it out ..
Driveclub .. even in ambient light ... is jawdropping. Can actually drive in-car now without crashing

Many thanks fellas i ended up googling it and they say 6500k light is best but that blue setup i quoted before looks pretty cool now im wondering go for cool looking or 6500k lolA bit easier on for the eyes too, than complete dark room, and you can get some ambient light without it reflecting from the screen.
Source: I have had a backlight for 4 days.
Looks good, but requires a Raspberry pie to work
^^
Or get the Dioder from Ikea for 30 bucks. That's what I use.
Where I do my gaming, I think I have posted in here before but I've had some recent changes

The new Ikea Besta system is incredibly customizable now.I'd still need somewhere to put my game systems and some A/V stuff. And a wall mount can't work...or at least I don't trust these walls. I live in an apartment complex that is uhhh...not perfect. And a wall mount would cost about as much as your average big-box TV stand, so it's not like it's insanely expensive.

Some of the photos were taken at different times as I've updated certain things in each photo, in case you see something different (wallpapers, hardware, chair, etc).

I feel like a total buster posting my setup.
GAF I need some opinions about our TV and couch setup!
My gf and I are thinking about changing the room setup but we can't really decide if it would be better.

Was just about to ask if anyone has the Ikea Lappland. Would I be able to fit a PS4/PS3/Xbox One on the left side shelves, and are the middle shelves able to be raised? They look a little low for something I'd want to fit below my TV.

No problem! From earlier in the thread:

Currently it's like this:
Or as in this old photo that I posted in this thread:
But we think we're too far from our 48'' TV and won't have the money for a bigger one before long.
So we're hesitating about buying the Ikea Nittorp Tv bench instead of the Expedit we have and setting everything up like that:
Plus I don't think the Expedit is really good for consoles in terms of airflow...
What do you think GAF? Should we change our living room?
Current setup with 3x Acer XB270HUs.
Second layout is better but still looks too far away. I wouldn't sit more than 5 or 6 feet from a tv that size.
How about putting the TV against the wall facing the balcony door? In your plan, the TV seems crowded side by side with the balcony door ( or window?), the sofa is not centered to the TV, and there maybe sun light leak in from the curtains during day time.
what program are u using?
That seems to meet the needs of what I was looking for in an earlier comment. I assume it's the Lack TV stand from IKEA? Do you find there's enough room for the PS4 to remain sufficiently cool? Further, do you find the viewing angle isn't too top-down? I find that my current set-up is just about right in terms of viewing angle, but it's a solid 18" higher than this stand.

What are you using for those back lights? I'd love to do that on my TV and on my computer.
The problem with your proposed setup is that you're moving the TV from the middle of your view and moving it to the left. While it works it's not optimum. The space between the tv and couch currently, is it 6-7 feet? If so that's the recommended distance to sit.

Mother of god. I don't even want to know how much that cost you.
... but I'm about to by a house and THIS is the kind of setup I want. lol
