Got to love open world games. I just laugh at stuff like this and keep on having fun.

I have a question about the Magnum Opus.
Does it ever stop looking like it is made entirely out of rust?

Well, it is a wasteland. You would not see many flashy new rides rolling around. It would be awkward if the bodies were not all worn, sun-weathered and rusty.

For the folks playing...I don't see the reason to upgrade each stronghold with the same upgrades after you do one of them? I can just fast travel to the upgraded one I want and replenish ammo, fuel, etc. and then keep playing. Seems like they should have only included certain upgrades in each stronghold. Would give the player more reason to complete the upgrade projects in different locations.

I can see how you game with kids but what does your wife girlfriend make of it? Doesn't she want time with you too? It's the balancing that's the issue for me.

Still hyped for MM though!

Well kids are normally in bed for 7:30. I spend a couple of hours with the wife watching tv or a film. 9:30 she normally goes to bed so that leaves me with a few hours if I want it. I normally just game for 2-3 hours a few times a week

man I have been watching gameplay videos this morning, game looks fun as hell. Unfortunately I will have to wait it out though. No time to play, so will wait for price drop. But sooner or later, I am definitely getting it.

I almost gif'd this earlier when you posted the video. Decided against it as some people would get real attached to it and cry shit-game, glad to see everyone here taking it in stride. You guys do me so proud sometimes.

Why does it have to be a competition, are we in the playground?

I can actually enjoy more than one game. Shit like this sounds so dumb. That goes both ways, with all of the shit posting against this game in favour of TPP in this thread.
Can't we all just get along?

or...

Depending on your perspective.

I tell you what. I would rather have funny physics glitches than have this happen:

Falling through the world in MGSV and having your game save. Even the 'perfect' 10/10 games are really... not so perfect.

I was gonna buy this and MGSV... but then I figured I only needed one at a time for 2 huge open word games. So I decided to go with Mad Max. Can't wait till Tuesday!

Car combat is SO satisfying, especially when going after convoys - taking on a heavily guarded convey usually leads to an epic cross-map chase, like something out of the film. So much fun.

I was just coming in here to post this! I just spent a good 20 mins or so chasing down a convoy....I almost had him and then I see the words "storm approaching seek shelter". No way in hell I'm going to lose all my progress on the convoy so off I go straight into the storm only to meet my death with a car that came flying right at me from all the wind.

EDIT:

Answering my own question - turns out that each stronghold is on a cool down timer so you cant just keep going back to the same one and filling up all your resources.

I love how you can pan the camera around in cockpit view.

I am seeing so many little details and nice touches in all of the footage I'm watching.

Has someone who hasn't played MM, that's whats so compelling about each convoy. Its not a quick minute or two event, they can stretch out over time and distance.

The first few convoys are pretty easy but some of the later ones have some heavily armored cars and some of the war boys will board your car if not careful. Fun stuff.

I think they mentioned that you can see the driver of the enemy vehicles ducking down trying to hide if you point the shotgun at them out the window when you look in first person

A few questions gaf.

Are there bosses on this game.
Do you just upgrade your own vehicle?
Can you take or store enemy vehicles in your base?
Are there areas from the start you would be totally underlevelled for?
Do the enemies scale with your level or naturally get tougher as you go?

Yes. Top Dogs basically. The smaller regions in the Great White have leaders you can take out to lower Scrotus' influence. I think he first top dog is Gutgash who you have to take down.

Yeah, only the Magnum Opus can be upgraded but you can drive other vehicles including enemies and if you take it back to a stronghold you get more scrap from it than what you would get if it was destroyed. If you want your Opus back though you only need to shoot a flare and Chum brings it to you.

Last points...don't really know the answer but some areas are gated until you level up or get the sufficient car upgrade.

There are a few "top dogs" that you need to beat in order to get new paint jobs for your car.
I would consider them mini bosses so far. I've not see all of the story yet so don't know about later on.

Do you just upgrade your own vehicle?
Yes, but you can actually build what are called archangles with different body styles and different defense, attack, speed, etc. for each one

Can you take or store enemy vehicles in your base?
Yep. Just drive them back to your base and you add them to your collection. You can drive them whenever you want. Some of them even have other abilities (like dropping mines)

As you level up things definitely get easier. Your car is pretty weak at first and can't do much at all. Enemies will not scale, they just keep throwing more and more different types of enemies at you that fight differently.

Also I did just try my luck at Walmart. Tried to see if they'd sell it early by bullshitting that Mad Max wasn't "street dated" since another gaffer mentioned a Walmart had broken street.

Dude was having none of it at first but then went in the back to get me a copy...no copies in stock. He then tried giving and selling me MGSV but I have no interest in that so turned it down. Tuesday it is then. :(

Double whammy;

So does this game feel like Mordor?

Because Mordor was a bit shit, especially after the first 10 hours or so.

There's touches of Mordor in some of the mechanics, but I'm finding the combat a hell of a lot more engaging and it doesn't really 'feel' like Mordor did.

Please tell me you mean melee and car fights when it comes to different enemies.

I really hope we get a Fury Road like Chase at the end. That would make this game GOTY.

Yeah, some cars have nothing but spikes on them that can do major damage and some cars I think they are called Kaboom Bugs carry huge gas tanks and if they ram you it completely tanks your health on the car.

Plenty of variety in enemy types too. There is an entire section in the pause menu that gives a bio on each enemy type for both cars and enemies and the best way to deal with them.

There's about as much continuity in Mad Max as there is in The Legend of Zelda, i.e. little/none. The old movies don't fit together with Fury Road. MM1 has Max as a member of more or less a legit police force, the apocalypse either hasn't happened yet or has only very recently happened and society is still limping on with him as a full blown adult. In Fury Road the apocalypse happened so long ago that new societies with their own culture have sprung up and it feels like Max and Furiosa wouldn't have been alive long enough to remember the before time - only the really old women and Immortan Joe seem to be old enough. But Max explicitly says that he was once a cop, implying it's "kind of" the same timeline as the old one? But then Max has a family and other people he seems to have failed to save, and the flashbacks are of a child of the wrong gender being killed for it to be a flashback to the first movie. He is credited as Max Rockatansky just like the old movies and we're given no real indication that he's supposed to be a different person. There's a fan theory he's the kid from MM2 that took on his persona, but from what we know of that kid he grew up with his tribe, became the leader and went north, and the way that narrator speaks (as an old man) doesn't feel remotely similar to Fury Road mad max.

Which is why I said it's a bit of a stretch. But yeah, you're right, there isn't a specific continuity and it's all very loose. I just like the idea of Toecutter being "reincarnated" into Immortan Joe as it really puts a bigger meaning as to why Nux is so confident in saying, "I live, I die, I live again." If anything it's just my simple interpretation.

I thought that was such a cool fan theory when I read that.

Sorry to bring this up but I wasn't online last night. lol Basically the films aren't bogged down by specific continuity and exist as stand alone entries. It had to be that way because for a lot of the US audience they're were only aware of 2 Mad Max films: Road Warrior and Thunderdome. The first film did so poorly that when WB distributed Mad Max 2 they had retitle it because how can you have a sequel out there if nobody saw the first one. lol Still though those 3 movies existed within a timeline even if they didn't acknowledge anything in the previous movies.

Fury Road exists in the same timeline as the original trilogy. It's Post-Thunderdome and Max is actually supposed to be about Mel's age in real life which is why Tom Hardy always referred to the character as a "old man trying to find peace". George Miller created and wrote backstories for all the characters in Fury Road that he was able to give to the actors so they'd be informed about everything for the characters they were portraying. The cool thing is that some of these backstories particularly for Max. the Wives, Immortan Joe and Nux, Miller and his writers published as a series of comic books that recently came out and further cemented Fury Road in the OG Trilogy timeline as well as explaining some of the mysteries from Fury Road. Like who was the girl Max kept seeing in his visions and how did he get the Interceptor again?

So no, it's not The Toecutter and Feral Kid isn't Max.

Again though the films have never relied on each other for continuity and Max is just a "legendary wanderer of the wasteland" that can be played by anybody and hopefully bring more features.

I'm done spewing words now. lol Just a FYI though but when the OT goes up it's honestly not gonna be a looker since I'm not good with that stuff and haven't had the time and it might be somewhat bare or full of mostly words. lol There's a lot of info to put in the OP when you're dealing with an open world title.

This sounds better than any Ubisoft game. And better than Batman and Mordor.

Guys, stop posting gifs please.

Because I want this shit right now.

An hour of TPP
An hour of Danganronpa
An hour of Max Max

Repeat.

Tthere are also certain enemies that only come out at night. They've talked about "The Buzzards" faction. Their cars are more spiked than other factions plus they have red glowing eyes and seemed a little more aggressive from the tiny bit of gameplay they showed of them.

I'm working on some kind of side missions right now that involve buzzards. I go to that area on the map but no one is around. Guessing I gotta show up at night, lol.

Just an FYI to those planning to get Mad Max and the movie. Best Buy will give you a $10 discount if you buy both in the same order. If you have GCU, then everything should come out to $58 before tax if you plan to buy the steelbook or regular blu ray edition of the movie.

Also, dont try to preorder online. The website isnt applying the deal correctly. If you plan to take advantage of the preorder certificates then instead you should preorder in store by putting $5 down and picking both of them up on Tuesday.
