Mad Max: Review Thread.

Just Cause 3 has more stuff closer together and more room for playing around, based on everything I've seen. Mad Max has a lot of empty space because it's a driving game in a wasteland, which is going to hurt it.

It's like in school.

90% or higher is good

80% to 90% is average

70% to 80% is baseline

60% to 70% is "you're probably going to have to retake this class."

under 60% is "you failed."

Different countries must have different standards. Those are crazy percentages

This is my school marking system

90%+ is Amazing

80% to 90% is Excellent

70% to 80% is Good

60% to 70% is Okay

50% to 60% is Fair

40% to 50% is Pass

39% and below Fail

It works for my own games rating system as well.

I give The Order 1886 a 70% borderline okay and good.

Well he is. Being based off a real person does not automatically make him look unique or special.
At least he is not a cartoony space marine. His rundown and depressed appearance already makes him far more unique than many other protagonists. Just calling someone generic based of their face shape and colour or whatever seems pretty insulting.

I prefer the rating system I grew up with in school, and that's what I use (as defined beside the scores) for my reviews.

80-100% - A - (Varying degrees, from Very Good to Instant Classic)
70-79% - B - (Good)
60-69% - C (A half-decent/okay game)
50-59% - D (It's mediocre, but gets a slight pass)

50% should be the level that decides whether you fail or not, not 60%.

I remember a time when I was excited about a game that scored a 7.5 and it ended up becoming one of my favorite games ever. I wonder why people are so uptight about 6s and 7s without playing them

All right. If anyone notices more reviews coming in before I do, please feel free to PM me. But with only two reviews from lesser-known sites out right now due to the embargo, it's no wonder we're having conversations like questioning whether a game not directly based on any movie should have the star resemble a particular character's actor when that character has been portrayed by multiple actors.

The existence of more reviews has no bearing at all on the quality of ThisGenGaming's review. And I'm not even defending their review here. I just think your post encapsulates everything that's terrible about review threads.

Fair enough. It's time to find out if other reviewers share ThisGenGaming's opinion :p

WB is scared. If people actually cared about this game, there would be a huge backlash about the embargo date.

We've let embargo dates get this close. Games that have early embargoes are the rarity now. I made a thread about it and got shit on. So here we are. L oh fucking l at the embargo being 7pm the night before it releases. That's some balls right there.

They shoulda released it a month ago during the summer drought, when a fun looking 7/10 game would sell just fine as people had little else to play. Now they are really sending it out to die up against Metal Gear (and a parade of high profile games in the next few months), and no late review embargo will save it.

America values tend to indicate:

A: 90-100
B: 80-89
C: 70-79
D: 60-69
F: 59 and below

This is probably why the reviews are similar at least video game wise.

The world needs more games that look like 7/10 games and aim to be 7/10 games and actually are 7/10 games.

Hmm. For me, my time is limited much more now than HS/College years. I don't really have time for the middling-quality games.

Well, let me put it another way. If I am going to play a 7/10 game, it better be doing something very interesting that I find worth exploring despite the flaws. It can't just be a shooting/driving game.

Anyway, hoping for good reviews in the 8-9 range and I'll pick this up after MGS V. Good luck Avalanche!

You can already pick this game up for very cheap. I don't know if that's a good or bad thing, if my only spare money wasn't tied up in my Steam wallet I would have bought it already, just because I like the look of the atmosphere and for under £20, you can't really go wrong. I hope those that have been waiting for this game won't be let down.

I agree. A game like this would have been very successful in the middle of July. Now? Not so much (lol).

We'll see how this pans out, but considering how awesome the movie was and how obviously compatible the lore is for a videogame interation, I'd be surprised if this doesn't do well at retail. It seems to be getting a lot of attention right now. Even a 7/10 is probably good enough for most, it looks a lot better than most movie tie-in games.
