Forza Motorsport 6 has "wet weather, 3D puddles and night races" + more

You aren't alone on the braking, see my post about it on the previous page.

They bite and lock fair too quickly and easily, and the trigger sensitivity is too much, all the braking is done in the first half of the trigger movement.

Exactly my experience with FM6 and FM5 before it.

Part of the reason I'm staying away from reviews, not the reviews themselves, but the awful lack of knowledge on display by some mainstream reviewers.

Remember when I told you that Jeff Gerstman from Giant Bomb knows more about cars than the average Forza player? After watching that quick look a few minutes ago, I almost feel like I owe you an apology.

Drew wants to see a Formula E car and Jeff takes it to Daytona to fully crank it up?? Wow... there is some serious lack of knowledge right there (hopefully is more about race cars and downforce than just cars in general).
And driving the Auto Union Type D with TCS and STM if you just want to show the game and not even want or need to win the race is a crime. How can you catch the spirit of racing these cars like that?

Edit:
Also, having Rewind On allows me to drive more recklessly, even if I don't have to use it, anyone else feel like that?
I very thankful that there's a rewind in Forza, learning a track with the racing line turned off is really exhausting in PCARS for me. I wish I could just rewind and try that certain corner I'm still not nailing over and over and over again instead of having to do a complete lap before I get to see that corner again. It would also make endurance races more fun for me, especially with some pretty agressive AI in PCARS.
Before Forza gets rid of the rewind, they should abandon the racing line, but I hope they'll keep both in FM.

I have to admit - despite having every Forza since launch - that I'm really struggling with 6. Not in the sense that I feel it's a bad game - far from it. What I'm struggling with is my own driving, finding the braking very tricky to get right this time around and the AI more of a challenge in the career mode.

I'm struggling so much I've just got the AI on Average. I keep horribly misjudging braking - either too much or two little and the result is losing places.

Just the opposite here. I've having a much easier time judging the braking than I did with FM5. I'm doing much better in the races than I have before.

Same, the oversteer and braking feel just right in this game, whereas in FM5 everything felt slippery and terrible at braking.

Ahh man. It' sucks many of you are having issues. I'm enjoying the new level of sensitivity so far. Every corner has been so much more satisfying to smoothly sail through than FM5.
To my surprise I've even been able to up my opponent drivatars to "above average". I've never felt this good in forza before lol.

That's exactly my problem with the game. I think it's much harder to keep the cars on track than in previous games.

Also: Drivatars are worse and have weird difficulty spikes. I'm surprised at how much worse the lighting on some of the tracks is compared to Forza 5.

Yeah, I am liking it a bit better as far as handling/breaking in F6 than F5. I do feel that way on new tracks however, but like someone else mentioned, it is more to the fact that I don't know the tracks or the breaking lines etc. A good example, I was playing in a League yesterday and constantly coming in close to last place, but this was mainly due to playing courses I never played or very briefly. But when Lime Rock came up, which due to the demo I have over a 100 laps on now, I ended up in 3rd place instead of my usual last or 2nd to last.

I do have to say and even though I am a die hard Forza fanatic, Turn 10 needs to consider what they can do with in-game image quality. The AA while better than 5 is still pretty bad. In screen shots and such it not that big of an issue, but when playing it really takes away from the assets they have in place. I love the 1080p/60fps commitment and I don't feel that needs to be compromised, but perhaps sticking to 16 cars instead of going to 24 would of allowed better AA methods or perhaps a few other visual improvements. It is not an ugly game, it is a very great looking game that is hurt by the poor image quality. You can see how great the assets are in photo mode and all the screen shots people have taken, imagine if they could improve IQ a bit more while in-game?

But this is Forza, lack of AA has been part of the mainline series since the beginning, so I don't expect Dan and team to improve on this...just wishful thinking on my part.

It's so nice to drivers, and especially their helmets, got some much needed attention. Looks good.

I did a comparison in Laguna too.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqPQUsjbZvw&

Kinda surprised in the video FM5 looks better in some aspects. Playing both the FM6 version feels much better though. Hard to explain. There's no reflection in FM6 when the car passes through a bridge... seems like a bug.

I've seen some strange things happening with the reflections in FM6. I was in cockpit view at Monza, with an old mustang, and some red reflection was appearing during almost the entire racing, when there's nothing red in the screen =p

IMO the FM6 version looks better in every way. It looks like it has hotter looking colour grading, and all of the little extra decorations on the track make it look more lively.

Also, regardless of your opinion on the track, the interior of that car looks wacky on FM5. The clock/odometer thing has absolutely no lighting on it, it's just constantly bright regardless of the light or shadow on it.

I really don't see the sense behind mods.

1. Mods don't make sense, if you need more credits:
If you need cash, all the winner credits are close to nothing compared to the spin wins. You may get 20,000Cr from a race and you may have to do 2 races to level up again, but even if you just count the top prize of the level-up spin, that's on average definitively higher than 1,000,000Cr, but let's say it's 1,000,000 with a winning probability of p=1/9th, that's 111,111Cr on the average level up, if there was only the jackpot. Yes, maybe it's a car that you don't want, but you can sell cars again at 50% but if you keep it and by accident win it again, you win 100% of its value in credits.
[By the way this also devaluates the VIP-bonus compared to previous games, but personally I don't care, I'm not VIP because of more in game cash]

2. Mods don't make sense as a difficulty adjustment:
If you need more grip, buy better tyres or another handling upgrade. Should that get you over the pp-limit of your race, then you shouldn't have it... just like the grip-mod. If you need to make the race easier, adjust the assists or drivatar difficulty!

3. Mods screw the leaderboards:
If a friend in FM5 had a 4s better lap time than me, but his time was invalid, I could assume that if he tried really hard, he could get a valid time that was 4 seconds faster than mine (admittedly just "assume" because he could have just cut the track). Now all invalid times are more or less meaningless. Maybe that's why the used car's pp isn't shown in the leaderboards anymore (at least not shown directly, you can still look it up on the right, if you go to a specific gamertag on the leaderboard).

The only thing where I see a field of application for mods is for simulating/roleplaying minor team differences in racing leagues where all the cars are basically the same, but then the AI should be able to apply team mods too.

So what's the deal with an OT? Do we need to wait for the official release or is it just that nobody has made one yet?

I wanted to inform you guys I've got to travel now when the OT will be going up and I haven't completed it or formatted for posting. So I can still do it but you may have to wait until Saturday or even Sunday or if someone else wants to just do it instead let me know. Apologies. Really gutted since it was for the 10 year anniversary.

I sent a message asking if VE3TRO wanted me to tidy up what he had, didn't hear anything back yet :/

Edit... Though I may not of clicked send...

so, since the decal takes like 25 layers, should i set it at 2975 or 25 ( holding the stick to the left, it'll take like 7 minutes to get to 25 )?
25. I mean, if Jube or m0dus tells you something else listen to them.

For the new page, could i get some clarification on this, how am i supposed to use the max layer value, and what impact does it have.

And also where to download playermade decals that you can apply to your car, not full on paintjobs.

Oof, you split the screen so I couldn't see how much different the bump-mapped dirt was at the end. Looks better on FM5 from what I could see. Other than color saturation, they look pretty similar. Both have problem with aliasing.

Looks like no one is doing the OT. If someone wants to do it but needs images I'm at your service. Just send me a message with what you need.

Just heard from Ve3tro

Hey man. I don't have access to the file at the moment since I've packed all up for traveling home. I'll be home Tuesday now (UK time) so I could have it up by Wednesday morning (UK) late Tuesday night (US)

But if you want to post something temp and I'll message the mods to let them know.

Yeah.Just few things I found better in FM5. I kinda prefer the color filter on FM5. Sound is much better in FM6 too.

Damn, people already downvoting the video. So childish.

I really need to play FM6 with headphones some time. I rarely ever hear the turbo spooling up but it was very apparent in your video.

EDIT: Anyone else unable to have more than 5 AI in a private match? I was hoping to set up a bucketed race for Le Mans but I can't get a full grid despite setting Max Drivatars to 23. Only 5 show up, three don't have any name and two have proper gamertags.

I wish we could select paint-colour on rental cars in Free-mode. Was hoping that'd be added for this release... Even just the manufacturer colours would be nice.

Another aspect I do not like about the career is how you have to max out a car in a certain class to be competitive. FH2 had this figured out, whatever you raced the AI field was filled with comparable cars. Why is that not possible here? Very annoying when you do not want to completely change a cars character.

Yeah that's bugging me too.

Figured out my braking issue. It's me really not the game. I tried a few races with the braking line on and had no problem controlling the brakes and beating above average AI.

So it's down to my timing and learning the brake points - which must be a bit different with this tire model.

That used to be an option.

That bothers me in Forza 5 too. Was it like that in 4 as well? I forget.

Just done the 1960 Grand Prix Showcase - which was wonderful. But it's maddening that's the only way to do a race with these cars - single race will throw a load of modern cars into the mix if you choose a historic one.

We need an event grid like Forza 3/4 - and/or the ability to lock car type down in single race.
