New PS4 model (CUH-1200) announced

Looking at all the current PS4 bundles on Amazon, would like to wait for the Uncharted or Battlefront bundles but the current Last of Us bundle includes a year of PlayStation Plus, so I might just get that one.

(That white PS4 in the Taken King bundle just looks too tacky for me, not my thing.)

The Last of Us model on Amazon includes the 1200 model, yes...?

I thought that the Last of Us bundles are all the old model, but I could be wrong.

No unless they have stock of the old model left which I doubt completely it should be the 1200 model. So far with my Taken King Ps4 I haven't heard any high pitch whine. While I do hear the fan go higher (and I mean have to be right next to the ps4 to even hear that) I haven't caught a high pitched noise. This mod is by far much quieter than my previous models and I've been through a lot of them.

I started noticing that at times my 1200-CUH makes a high pitch sound when the fans are running fast (Rocket League or after a long playing session), It's nothing major during the day but at night when I have to keep my volume low it becomes slightly irritating. Does anyone else have this problem?

EDIT: Found a video of someone with the exact same problem, apparently according to the comments it has something to do with the HDD, dunno if it's true.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDqVWjYEAkU

My 1216 does this with an SSD installed so it's not the hard drive. During Netflix etc it's even more annoying than my (louder) old model due to the pitch.

This happened to me a couple of days ago, anybody know what happened :I turned my ps4 on and everything was doubled up and either green or pink - I could see everything on the screen and there was random blind spots on it as well...Switched it on & off same thing...Switched the hdmi cable same thing... Switched hdmi port on the tv,fixed but my pc which was on the old ps4 hdmi socket is fine on the tv as well...Anybody know wth just happened? Nothing from google seems to show anything similar, I backed my save and synced my trophies while it was like that... The PS4's been kept well ventilated, dusted weekly and in a smoke free home - So it wasn't due to overheating/damage etc.

It's the power supply then, man I do hope it doesn't get any worse.

its probably coil whine from sony using cheap parts. it shouldn't get worse, some times it will go away with time but not always. still better than the vacuum that was my old ps4.

I think it'd be less annoying if it was consistently noisy instead of on/off.

my xbone makes a similar sound due to how air travels through the vent, a little downward pressure makes it stop. its just as annoying but at least with the ps4 there are quiet periods.

has it been fine since switching the port? I would check the display options on the ps4, its possible they got switched due to firmware bug or incorrect handshake.
it could be a tv issue too. I had something similar happen with my plasma and turning the tv off and on would randomly fix it. ended up taking off the back and removing all the board except the psu. dusted everything really well and its been fine since.

Yeah I checked the display options etc. I am running the beta firmware so it might be that... the ps4 is less than 3 weeks old so I doubt there's much dust.... If it happens again I'll probably request a replacement, I switched the hardrive out and I don't want to re download everything because of a firmware issue, which is why I posted... The tvs a Samsung led(the newest 1080p model, no smart features or 3d etc) bought in December so I can't imagine it being the problem since only the ps4 had this issue, I switched sources and everything else was fine =/.
Mightve just been a one off between the ps4 & TV as you said , thanks for replying.

Thanks for the info everyone!

But dang it, looks like the 1-year PlayStation Plus offer on the Last of Us bundle isn't there on Amazon anymore...I guess I'm back to waiting for something else.

Think I'm gonna trade my launch model for the new Destiny bundle. If I then want to upgrade the hard drive, the process is the same as it is for the older models, right? Same type of drives and all?

I'm sure this has already been addressed, but is there a way to find out which bundles have the newest PS4 model? I'm interested in the Arkham bundle but it looks like it is 1100 and not 1200.

Is the 1200 model worth waiting for or is 1100 enough of an improvement?

Thanks!

For me yes it has. I went through several ps4 1100 models. The 1200 model is significantly quieter and I'm loving it.

I don't know if it is true, but since the 1200 have the HDD cover mate. you can see on the box that the upper right corner of the PS4 is matte, instead of shiny. You can check it on the TLOU:R + GOW3:R bundles, or in the MGSV (not LE) bundles too.

Yup, my brother has one. Some of the LE's like the MGS one have glossy cover but are still 1200's. 1200's also have mechanical buttons which ou have to press rather than scanning your finger, which is better imo since you can't accidentally eject the disk with you arm this way ¬_¬.

How has everyones experience been with the limited edition destiny bundle? Thinking about buying it now as amazon is throwing in a free copy of MGSV with purchase.

Also, what HDDs are you all using to upgrade storage space? I usually see that external seagate mentioned, as it can be popped out of the enclosure and the old HDD put in and used as an external. Though I have seen some pretty nasty looking reviews throughout the years about Seagate drives.

EDIT: Watched a couple unboxing videos and I couldn't resist. Such a beautiful limited edition console. I was looking at this hard drive, got some BB credit too:

As a previous owner of four older PS4 I just got myself a CUH-1216A and man what a difference! This one is actually quiet. Every scenario in games like TLOU:R and Shadow Fall that would make the older models loud as hell this one remains quiet. Although this one instead gives off an annoying whining sound. It's not loud and the extent varies so I'd say I'm not very bothered by it, but it's so damn typical. Finally a quiet PS4 and it gives us something else that's annoying from time to time. Everyone else with a 12xx model getting this? Come on Sony! If you actually got this far you should at least make sure it doesn't get a new issue. Unless everyone else don't have this whining from time to time (I get it mostly in Bloodborne) I think I'm sticking with it until a Slim version appears.

It was the same with the PS3 Super Slim, it had an awful high pitch sound I couldn't bear so I sold it on. I think I'll stick with the 1116A model as that would be more annoying than the fan and it seems pretty common.

Like I wrote it's not that bad. It's faint enough, but still annoying. Nowhere near as bad as the fans on the 10xx and 11xx models. Just so typical. A proper model with decent components can't come soon enough.

I have a launch model that gets pretty loud. Got a Xbox One recently and I was honestly shocked by how dead silent the thing is. Multi platform owners, how does this new model compare to the XB1? Might upgrade if I can finally get a quiet PS4.

I've got the new model coming in the form of the Destiny limited edition. Have an Xbox One as well so I can give impressions soon.

Not tried my new one with stuff like Rocket League yet, but Dragon Age was a big offender for me in terms of fan noise with my launch model and now it's a whole lot better.

The Destiny model also just looks slick as fuck, the decal on the cover is way better in person than it looks in pictures and the white DS4 is a beaut. Really happy with it so far.

I'e read that some retailers hre in Europe are now getting the 1TB edition with the new model. Can anyone confirm? Has anyone seen them in the wild?

its fairly close to xbox one noise when sitting in the system menu or playing a game that isn't pushing the system. with a game that's more taxing you can hear the fan and a high pitched whine but its still a massive reduction in noise.

for me its a huge improvement since I game at night. the old system was so loud it made the audio hard to hear unless you turn up the volume. with the 12xx even low game audio is enough to drown a majority of the console noise out.

ya the whine it the console makes its much easier the bare with than the ridiculous amount of noise the older models make. I don't know if future models will be fix this unless sony is willing to pay for better components in the psu. I see it leaning towards unlikely since theyre cutting cost and others have mentioned ps3 revisions having the same problem. ill keep my fingers crossed.

Specific bundles will have this, there're gonna be two Uncharted Collection bundles, one with a 500gb HDD and another with a 1TB one, both are the 1200-CUH. Besides these there's also that AC Syndicate that'll be coming out later this year (1TB as well), bundled with the game + a code to download Watchdogs.

I can't wait! Watched one unboxing video and I was sold on the design.

Fantastic. Thank you. Now I only need to wait for the 1TB console without a bundle (or a bundle with a game I actually want) and I am good to go.

I think it's the fan that makes the whining. If it was the power supply it would be constant under stress and it's not the type of whining that comes from coil whine. It sounds too different. It's also pulsating. Never heard pulsating coil whine before and I've been through my share of GPUs with coil whine.

1200 i so worth it. I went through four older models. 1x 10xx and 3x 11xx and they all got loud as fuck in every game that stressed the console. This one is like comparing night and day with the others.

EDIT: Some retailers have inaccurate images of the boxes on their websites for some bundles, but the correct ones show a console that's entirely matte (the older ones have the hdd cover in glossy black paint) and on the front of the box the model number is printed. CUH-12XX where X are region codes.

Is there any info on whether the CUH-1200 models (specifically the CUH-1216A) being Made in Japan?

How about the CUH-1116A? From which model did they stop manufacturing them in Japan?
