‘Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate’ topples ‘FIFA 16’ at the top of the All Formats chart.

Its launch fails to outperform previous title ‘Assassin’s Creed: Unity’, which was denied top spot last year by the second week of ‘Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’. It is the second major entry in the Assassin’s Creed series not to be developed by Ubisoft Montreal, that honour this time going to Ubisoft Quebec. ‘Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate’ surpasses with ease the other non-Ubisoft Montreal developed title ‘Assassin’s Creed: Rogue’, but its launch falls short of surpassing any of the other major entries in the famous series. Sales of ‘FIFA 16’ fall by 16% this week, but it still manages to secure 2nd place ahead of Activision Blizzard’s ‘Guitar Hero Live’, new at No3. It may be 5 years since the last Guitar Hero title Warriors of Rock, but the new game still manages a 24.3% increase on its predecessor’s launch.

‘Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection’ (-26%), makes way for the new releases by dropping 2 places to No4, while ‘Grand Theft Auto V’ sticks at No5 thanks to a 51% jump in sales. ‘Lego Dimensions’ (+12%) falls 2 places to No6, while ‘Destiny: The Taken King’ (-5%) slips by 4 places to No7. ‘Forza Motorsport 6’ (+11%) is still in demand at No8 ahead of ‘Lego Jurassic World’ (+74%) which was heavily promoted this week, a non-mover at No9. ‘Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain’ (-3%) rounds off the Top 10, meaning Nintendo’s new 3DS title ‘The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes’ has to settle for No11. Thrown in with the new Assassin’s Creed Syndicate PS4 hardware bundles, ‘Watch Dogs’ (+430%) scampers back into the chart at No12, while ‘The Witcher III: Wild Hunt’ (+121%) also shoots up the chart, thanks to price promotions and a recent new expansion. The only other new title to debut inside the Top 40 this week is Ubisoft’s ‘Just Dance 2016’ which gets the party started at No19.

Splits from Metro:

Ass Creed:

The PlayStation 4 version was the biggest-seller by a wide margin (the PC version isn’t out until next month) at 61 per cent to 39, thanks to the exclusive content deal for extra Penny Dreadful-themed missions and the new PlayStation 4 hardware bundle. You can see the effect of the latter in that Watch Dogs, which is also included in the bundle, suddenly jumped all the way to number 12 in the all formats chart.

http://metro.co.uk/2015/10/26/assassins-creed-syndicate-has-worst-debut-ever-for-series-5462368/

Other interesting splits:

The split between formats was much more even [for Guitar Hero Live], with the PlayStation 4 leading on 47 per cent, the Xox One on 46 per cent, Xbox 360 on 3 per cent, and PlayStation 3 on 2 per cent.

Just Dance 2016 also failed to make the top 10, having to settle for number 19 in the all formats chart. Ubisoft has had trouble transitioning the franchise to the current gen, as evidenced by the fact that the Wii version was the best-selling version at number 33 in the individual formats chart. It took 47 per cent of sales, followed by the Wii U at 20 per cent.

I'm negatively surprised not to see Tales of Zestiria cracking the top 5 in France while Dragon Quest Heroes managed to place 3rd.

In the UK both are already gone from individual and all formats top 40 charts, sad but expected because these kind of games always have hefty drops.

I'd assume even taking digital into account, Syndicate can't replicate the week 1 sales of Unity (which has its own digital sales to factor in).

As good as the game reviewed I'll say it again, franchise fatigue seems to have slowly crept in now.

Nice to see France and Germany saving DQ localizations. Now bring on VII/VIII 3D like you promised Hori!

Any reason for that or just pure "coincidence" ?
DQ's always done relatively well in France since DQVIII. Semi knockoffs like Blue Dragon also did well there even.

Not surprised, France have good taste when it comes to Japanese games than UK :p

The writing is on the wall. Hopefully they can achieve a nice balance where they are rotating between Watchdogs, AC and The Division.

Ideally, it would be one year Watch Dogs, next year AC, next year Far Cry. They have three "open world with towers" going on.
But no, they want annual ACs and bi-annual Far Cry.

If we look at UK value charts, it isn't too much different in terms of jrpg

Blue Dragon charted in 7th in the UK (individual units) 10th the second week and stayed in the top 40 for month.

What data do we have for France Blue Dragon did well or should I say significantly better than UK?

Anyway, if we use value for Blue Dragon in the UK like the French charts it's third

UK Value units 2007
Q68b.jpg

These weekly digs at the UK are mostly unwarranted and seem to be based on no data, people looking at the UK chart which is a week ahead and not seeing your fav jrpg, seeing last weeks all formats, value charts from other countries which trim down the fat and help small games appear in the chart. Without some numbers these games could all be selling within a few hundred units of each other over a month.

I only talk about general Japanese games these days, not specific about Blue Dragon :p

The new SELL report (french VG market - Oct. 15) is out.
There's really not much interesting data this time, an awful lot of demographics.
The only new number I can see is 7M Gen 8 consoles+handhelds (so PS4, XB1, WiiU, Vita, 3DS) install base as of Sept. 2015. 3DS was at 2.9M units sold back in May 2014 so it probably accounts for half of that number now.

http://www.essentiel-jeu-video.fr/media/pdf/EJV_10_2015_EN.pdf

edit: LTD numbers as of the end of 2014
3DS - 3.4M
PS4 - 1.1M
WiiU - 515K
Vita - 446K
XB1 - 416K

Total: ~ 5.9M

So that 1.1M units sold YTD.

Don't regret not buying Ubisoft stock, I knew their games will underperform this year. It's Vivendi's interest that was unpredictable.

Digital Console software is very interesting, almost 25% of console software sales are digital. And almost as high as PC.

Vita ahead of Xbox One? Maybe explains why Sony Europe is the only branch which seems to acknowledge its existence.

I'm guessing Just Dance is no longer a cash cow for Ubi looking at that placement ... with this and AC underperforming doesn't look good for Ubi.

[Week 46, 2014] XBO ASSASSIN'S CREED: UNITY (UBISOFT) - 70,000 / NEW
[Week 43, 2015] XBO ASSASSIN'S CREED: SYNDICATE (UBISOFT) - 38,000 / NEW (-54% YoY)

Perhaps the difference in the YoY drops between the PS4 and XB1 versions can be explained by the PS4 hardware bundle?

However I can't imagine there are 24,800 AC fans who all upgraded to the PS4 version with the bundle.

I think so. It was the best value bundle and coincided with the price drop, so I'm sure not everyone who picked one up specifically wanted the game. But an extra game to play or good trade in credit for a day 1 release would have been appreciated for people picking one up.
