Sony FY2015 Q2: PS4 shipment 4 million, cumulative sell in at 29.3 million

Sony absolutely killing it. Take note Microsoft and Nintendo, learn the Sony way

Not as easy as it looks, sony is the nike brand of gaming consoles, they have in 3 gens sold 335 million gaming consoles, thats way more then its competition combined in 3 gens, even with the horrible start of the ps3, cause of the terrible pricing for a console, with inferior hardware to the 360 early on cause of bad ports, they still recovered.

Exceptional performance. While the PS4 is a failure in New Zealand, it's doing remarkably well everywhere else.

The software lineup for 2016 is insane. I honestly think the PS4 can clear 50 million by the end of next year.

It depends on what you mean by major. Western side, there is Wild by Michel Ancel, No Man's Sky, Amplitude by Harmonix, Hellblade by Ninja Theory. If you are talking about something of the budget of Call of duty or Destiny, no, they don't exist. There is also that Robinson's game from Crytek, but that is VR. On the Japanese side, there are more, but people like to discredit them.

Wild- new startup, named Wild Sheep
No Man's Sky- Hello Games
Amplitude- Harmonix using kickstarter
Hellblade- Ninja Theory (usually works in partnership with a publisher, now going with a independent project)

There isn't a movement from 3rd party publishers to make PS4 exclusives outside of japanese games that doesn't have much market in west.

If this year Sony is able to sell 4:1 in comparison with MS, at 400€, I don't know if they will be able to make enough PS4s for 2016 to cover the demand after the price cut and the amazing lineup they have for almost every month

My name is PS4. I'm a former member of the Ken Kutaragi class raised by Mark Cerny and Shu Yoshida in a massive HQ in Tokyo, Japan. The year I turned 20, as the head of my own console war, I sold 29.3 million, which really pissed me off because it was .7 shy of 30 million.

Are small publishers counted? Because Devolver Digital stuffs are usually PS4 exclusive (at least on consoles)

If you can provide something other than a theory, I'll be happy to discuss it further. Remember, you quoted me with the talk of Japanese games and such...

Or, how about I flip it around for you - can you give me a reason why, at this point, Sony won't continue to be able to snag exclusives/content considering their sizable lead?

If you believe that Sony don't paid for have SF V as console exclusive, I have nothing left to talk to you because your premise makes no sense for me.

50 million will easily be passed next year. I wonder how many PS4's they'll be able to ship this quarter (Q3) next year. They shipped 6.4 million this quarter last year and should easily pass 7 million and maybe be near 8 million this year.

Holy shit. Well deserved though. I've never bought so many games before and probably played well over 100 games on PS4 already.

My god....Toukiden 2, Nioh, Star Ocean 5, Digimon, Persona 5, Uncharted 4, Ratchet and Clank, Street Fighter 5, Nier Automata, Horizon, Tales of Berseria, Gravity Rush 2, among many others in 2016

I can only imagine what PS4 would be looking like if Sony weren't destroying the competition in sales!

I kinda would like to see them get beat and turn desperate if this is what we're getting now

I'm looking forward to see how it does in 2016. The PS4 had Bloodborne, Until Dawn, Rocket League and a couple of other cool indie and Japanese exclusives, but 2016 seems like it will really start hitting its stride exclusive wise.

eh, look at microsoft. that's kind of where they'd be. they would have to be hoping for multiplatform releases and fill out the rest of their lineup with first-party stuff and indie games (preferably exclusives). ps4 sony is not 'find two jobs' sony that existed ten years ago. this is them having learned what not to do and following through.

FF XV alone will boost like crazy the console thanks to japanese market.

Somewhere deep in the basements of Microsofts headquater in Seattle, Don Mattrick is chained to a bed, his eyes forced open by hooks. Directly above him is mounted a monitor that has a slideshow looping.

Slide 1: "Microsoft announces XB1 at 499$"
Slide 2: "Sony announces PS4 at 399$"
Slide 3: "Microsoft announces always online requirements"
Slide 4: "Sony announces no online requirements"
Slide 5: "Microsoft tells submariners to get a 360"
Slide 6: "Microsoft: Kinect is integral to the XB1 and cannot be separated"
Slide 7: "Microsoft: XB1 is all about TV... and games, we think"
Slide 8: "Sony outsells XB1 almost 3:1"

Slide 8 repeats 20 times before it starts over.

Seriously though, it's mindboggling how much a company can fuck up a launch like that.

Holy fucksticks Jebus! Ludicrous figures. I shudder to think what Sony could achieve in 2016 looking at the games coming out.The thing is simply a money printing machine.

Microsoft is doing the same thing that Sony made with PS3, investing more in first-party line up.

They have in the bag Quantum Break, Recore, Scalebound, Crackdown, Fable Legends, Sea of Thieves, Gears 4... I think they're trying better than with 360.

i would sooner run with dqxi over ffxv for stuff like that.

i don't think either will provide a huge boost though. the ps4's nearing 2 million units now and i don't think it'll make it to 10m overall.

That is if he were still in Microsoft today.

But he left months after Xbone was annouced.

Sony killing it and rightfully so. With the upcoming lineup it's going to be insane to see how many more consoles will get sold.

FF15 is Hostuge

Aka, don't expect it to sell that much.

It really can't be stated enough how great these number could be for PSVR and for consumer adoption of VR in general.

Oculus and Valve should be glad that Sony is pushing VR in a real way.

In the end it seems Kaz is doing a good job turning Sony around. Next year profits are forecast to be as high as Sony achieved in their heyday. And it seems Playstation is a key pillar to this success and integral to their plans. So this is good news.

Sony delivered great things when they were on their knees in terms of finances. Things can only get better when they have a healthy chunk of change in their wallet.

In other news, Sony are in negotiations to buy Hitachi's image sensor division. Image sensors are another area where they are making bank (thanks to Apple and Google contracts).

right. it's basically all you can do at that point, because to secure a third-party game, you're not only paying a company's chance to make big bucks on one or more platforms extra, but potentially limiting the reach of a franchise and damaging the potential for future entries. this is different when a game wouldn't get made without some intervention, like street fighter v or bayonetta 2. but microsoft really needs to build what their 'brand' is going to be. they had a sort of a thing going last gen with halo/gears/fable/forza, but stopped building on it and let studios slip away from them.
