If it's true (& it doesn't happen to be the TellTale game), then it will be awesome. But I honestly can't see it being a system seller.

You all blame Nintendo, but it's not Nintendo who develop the game. It's entirely up to Mojang who they sell the rights to the game to.

I would hope it uses at least some unique features of the Wii U.

amiibo support would be awesome. And I don't mean a Minecraft line of amiibo, I mean unlocking skins for every existing amiibo I have.

With MS owning Minecraft, you're going to have to pay for most skins, texture packs and mash-up packs. They might have people vote for platform specific mash-up pack like they did for Playstation consoles, but those won't be free. The game updates have slowed to a crawl too since MS bought them, with only 1 small content update since December.

Who/What is Tantakus?

They are also known as Straight Right, who did the Wii U ports of Mass Effect 3 and Deus Ex: Human Revolution DC! :)

Tantalus have been around for 20 years and made numerous games on Nintendo systems, last gen they worked on many DS versions of games with THQ, Vivendi, etc.

You are of course correct but highlighting MS as the reason you have to pay is wrong. We have always had to pay for most content on the console version. They're not the villain here.

I'm actually hopeful a deal can be reached to enable Amiibo unlocking of skins as an optional extra to outright buying. Its the texture packs where they will make the money. Classic Mario is crying out to be made!!!!

That's true. I do notice that we seem to no longer get any free skins with the skin packs though.

This is going to sell a lot. Minecraft with the gamepad will be huge.

And to all the people saying that it is too late, you do know that the NX will be out only on 2017... And the general public doesn't even know about the NX...

I don't see how this would sell a lot, it is waaaaay too late.

I don't see the gamepad as an advantage, you can already play Minecraft on Vita with a better resolution/screen.

I don't know yet if I should be excited. I own Minecraft since the end of the Alpha on PC and have yet to really dig into it..

Is there something on the consoles that's missing on the PC version? Is PC still Java based and doesn't have Splitscreen? If so, then I might look into this version..

The Windows 10 version is the new non-Java port to Windows, but the Java one is still updated as the main one as far as I know. The Win 10 one allows multiplayer with players on mobile, though.

Kind of thought they were holding off for NX by now.

Ones on the right look nasty. Yoshis should be a customised horse variant.

A minecraft clone launched on the eShop this June and it's still in the Wii U's eShop top 20 and on the all time eShop charts on spot 15 (at least in Germany). Minecraft is successful with kids. How many kids do you think own a Vita compared to a Wii U?

Skimmed the first and last page of this thread but couldn't find a mention of it. Alongside Splatoon and Mario Maker, this will be huge in Japan.

Dear Nintendo and Mojang,

GAF thinks you're too late with releasing this for the Wii U.
Save your money and trouble, cancel this pls.

Oh, that reminds me, I can still redeem the Win 10 version for free for a while, right?

Microsoft funded their console ports (pre-buyout) and bought temporary exclusivity. The moment the exclusivity ended Sony pushed hard to get the PS3 and Vita versions out. Both companies got Minecraft because they wanted it, not because they lucked out and Mojang smiled upon them. If Nintendo wanted Minecraft on their hardware, they could have gotten it ages ago, just like MS and Sony.

So yes, it is on Nintendo.

Wii U has two screens....

Every other verison you have to switch between inventory and gameplay screens. Wii u should let you have both open. Like in wind waker.

Having to take your eyes off of the world to craft is something I prefer. It adds to the survival horror aspects of the game for me.

No because it's not a sane business logic...

Nintendo don't support (moneyhat) projects that are already viable just so they can be on the system.. .and I'm ok with this. Paying for having successful games or exclusives is dumb, paying for making games that may never come be possible is nice.

If the publisher think that the game won't be a success on this system then ok it's their decision... it makes me sad to see very few third party support in a way but it also shows who's ready to take some risks and who's not.

See this post which imo describes perfectly why some things can't evolve (Valve controller / Engadget thread).

I'm surprised it took this long for an easy seller and it's happening after Microsoft bought the IP.
Might consider it if the Gamepad features are good.

I´ll wait to see if they´ve taken their time to implement the Gamepad correctly. If it turns out to be just a simple port which doesn´t take advantage of the Gamepad then I´ll pass.

Anyway, this should´ve been out much sooner.

..you realize people are talking about things like offloading the inventory screen onto the gamepad and not just having another screen to play the game on, right?

Damn, imagine if this had come sooner. Creativity / user generated content games are a natural fit. Will buy. Hard.

Hope the gamepad implementation is good!
