Some kid turns 7 every single day. The market for minecraft is growing every day. It doesn't have to worry about player retention because for every player it loses for whatever reason, some kid is becoming old enough to be interested in minecraft.

That is bizarre to me. I'm not one to downplay the work it takes to make high quality assets but throw a few folks at Nintendo skins before you launch. Where are the amiibos? What about converting Miis to skins? This stuff seems basic to add value to a port this late.
I've had a chance to try this and it doesn't feel good at all. Even if you've never played the PC or console versions I don't see how people can enjoy controlling this game like that.

This announcement was announced (lol video game industry) via podcast, and announced proper on Twitter. There's a metric shitton of venues that Nintendo can use to announce things that are actually big. CES, E3, TGS, TGAs, or any of the Directs that they make themselves. And it's not like the announcement is particularly big, since Minecraft on Wii U has always been a no-brainer and always thought of as impossible given the platform and the fact that it's now owned by MS.

Well, they did said that more stuff "for Nintendo fans" would be announced at a later date.
In general, everything leading to this release is weird.
Story Mode was announced for Wii U, but coming at a later date.
Then speculation started around how if Story Mode was coming to Wii U, then that meant the regular game would be coming at some point since they both use the same engine.
There was the PEGI rating leak, which many assumed was tied to the Direct back then, but nothing.
Then later date for Story Mode turned into December, then to TBA.
Now, here's the regular game revealed just a week before release.
So, maybe the "Nintendo stuff" wasn't ready and it's somewhere between this release and Story Mode. And they wanted this a week before Christmas, so that new people joining te eShop see the banner of Minecraft Wii U Edition the first time they enter.
A retail release of both this and Story Mode has been hinted, so maybe the Nintendo costumes will be packaged with the retail releases and distributed digitally as an update.

It is constantly charting in worldwide Top 10s. So no.
They own the IP, which makes them interested to publish it on other plattforms.
Microsoft owns it but they've always claimed that buying it was not going to preclude it from showing up on other platforms.

Good for Nintendo. This means that Minecraft will probably be definite for NX launch.
They own it, but remember Minecraft is on literally everything else: PS3, PS4, Vita, Android, iOS. Wii U only makes sense at this point, and barring any major technical hurdles, I wouldn't be surprised to see it on 3DS, or at the very least be n3DS exclusive.

-edit- I guess I misunderstood what the "gameband" actually does, but still, I'm glad to see the game finally make it on the wii U. The pad seems like a natural input for a game like this.

Why would anyone have thought that the announcement would have been NX related at all. Or even a Smash Bros update. At best it would have been an announcement of the Smash Bros event, as they announce those in advance through official channels and not just some dude on a podcast or whatever.
My son would want that, to go along with his Mac, PS4 and iOS Minecraft... :\
Tablets can, just so Wii U would. Not at the draw distance of a PS4 I'd imagine but it'd be fine as.
For some reason I hadn't picked up on the source of the news being a Nintendo guy. That means 2 things
1) It's likely legit
2) It won't be "BIG" like we think. It'll be BIG as in "We want to market something to you so we'll call it big"

I'm going to say the majority of people who play minecraft on tablets and smartphones are kids under the ages of 10. Some of which possibly haven't played games on anything but a tablet or smartphone. So they probably don't know the difference between good and bad controls.
I'm making a lot of assumptions on the topic regarding player base but the IOS port is so bare bones I can't imagine someone who knows better having that be the one they play the most.

Nintendo continues to disappoint and depress me. I have been a big fan on Nintendo since I got my original Nintendo in 1987. But they just keep on digging their own hole.
