NPD Sales Results for November 2015 [Up3: Combined Hardware For PS4 + XB1 + Wii U]

I am surprise Sony did not say much of anything for Black Friday or today looking at these numbers.

Sure I guess Sony could have done the following:

But why?

Thats kinda really fucking bad though. In the AAA environment where the stakes are higher than ever and the dev cycle is 3 years. This sets them back a LOT.

Lucky for Tomb Raider, Square Enix isn't exactly overflowing with better franchise options from a monetary perspective.

Not with these sales.

Type-0 HD is coming for ya!

We need to wait for PC. Tomb Raider 2013 is sitting at 3.5M on Steam. Even all of the old games are in the 450-700k range. The PC audience is used to late ports, and seems to like the franchise. I think the game will do well there (especially once we start getting $20-30 sales).

Meanwhile, Type-0 is sitting at 70k after 5 months.

I know the answer is none percent, but what are the chances CD just goes back to this Lara?

No need. RoTR is the best in the series, the game is quality as is Lara's portrayal. I expect the next game (of course there will be another) to push a young but matured Lara (25yr old).

That was a joke, lol. Cause ya know, 200k and all.

Did we get a number for Uncharted Collection?

Nope. I'm still trying to find last month's. I swear we got a breakdown in that thread at one point.

Not even a Dota 2 tie in could help it much.

I get the feeling that since Square Enix completely dropped the ball on day 1 purchases for Xbox One, and through the exclusivity deal PC and PS4, that a much greater percentage of the lifetime units of ROTR will be sold at a bargain price than the original reboot. So while they will probably reach lifetime units equivalent to the reboot, they'll probably make less than the reboot. And while the MS deal may offset that a bit, I'm not sure they planned for the title to sell this poorly.

the ASP for the game going to be very low.

FF-Type 0 on Steam would have sold considerably more had they bothered to include a FFXV demo.

Guess the game just wasn't far enough along, even though we pretty much know a PC version is bound to show up.

my hard graphic balls
As someone who's been a fan since CE, which I played on release when I was in the third grade, I can only list my personal problems with Halo 5, for which there are many.

  • A boring, short, uneventful campaign
  • Half-baked squad mechanics, made worse with brain-dead friendly AI
  • Non-comprehensible story, filled with poor dialog and flat voice work
  • Esports focused MP
  • Broken ranking system (I ended up in Diamond, now I keep getting matched up against MLG clans)
  • Small amount of maps, all of which are visually boring
    [*]Worse graphics than its predecessor
  • Warzone is garbage

Of course, these are only my personal gripes, but I definitely see why this one is failing.

Most of TR 2013's units were sold at bargain prices. I got the game for $16 like 6 weeks after launch on PC. $30-40 sales were pretty common a few months after launch for console retail. The initial/near launch shipment was 3.4M. Five months later, shipments had barely budged to 4M, so S-E didn't even get through that first shipment before the discounts came rolling in. A year and a half later cheap copies doubled Tomb Raider's LTD

I think the idea was to get more full price purchases this time around. That obviously isn't happening. I think that PC uptake will be about the same as the first game in relation to full/near full price copies vs bargain copies. Who knows how well the PS4 version will even do if it's a year late. Probably not that well.

I enjoyed the hell out of RoTR, for the most part, but perhaps the grim, overly serious, face stabbing tone of it and the reboot are hurting the appeal of the series.

She still exists in Guardian of Light / Temple of Osiris if you're interested in those. Same voice actress too.
Have those both downloaded through PS+, but never checked them out. I should change that.

I haven't played 4 in a while, but I certainly remember that not only what it technically better looking, but even the art style and environment design was way more interesting than anything in Halo 5.

Just noticed NFS sits at mid 60s on metacritic. No fucks given by thirsty NFS/racing fans?

Well the 360 attach is 0.06ish%, So it has that going for it.
So around 27k copies for the 360 version in the 200k Xb1+360 total

Eep.

A colossal waste of Nixxes' talent and all their dedicated effort. The quality of the 360 port is crazy high and puts to shame the minimal effort last gen cash grabs you typical see (e.g. BLOPS 3). I though it would do better than 27k.

Wonder if Nixxes will salvage some of their work into a dx9 version for the PC to run on low end hardware. A bit like the dx9/dx11 shader options for PC TR2013. Or more similar to the last/next gen toggle on PC TR:Legend that did full asset swaps.

I remember that Sony discounted it to $30 in a lightning sale on PSN about in March of the year after it came out (so about 4 months later). Retail discounts to that level that quickly was something I'd seen before, but a digital sale that quickly, and that deep was something I hadn't seen before, and I don't think I've seen again since.

No TY.
I feel like they nailed her look and especially her character perfectly in rottr.

Clearly I think the game itself is not the problem sales wise. It was a combination of the timeing, exclusively, and lack of marketing.

How many of those 3.5 million PC people payed $5 or less? :p

He was just responding to Primethius' Avatar. It wasn't Primethius making a joke, I made the avatar. I respect you, The Artisan, and in hind site, the confusion the similar avatar's caused wasn't fair to you or Primethius. The "1%'d" comment was just a fun play on the 1% comment, which you have been a good sport about ever since it was made. So I made a new Avatar, and I thought the new Eugene's face perfectly summed up losing a bet. Nobody was "bullying" you.

They will probably actually boot the game up and find the missions mode where you get to play against the AI in Hero Battles, Battles, & Survival mode all with several difficulty modes to select from along with all the weapons being available (unlike multi player where you have to slowly unlock them). Along with having 8 unique maps. Not to mention the training modes. All available offline.

Before giving out misinformed advice to others I would suggest to do more reading/research or the very least, actually play the game yourself.
My apologies. You're right, I haven't played the game. Partially because my (incorrect) understanding of it being an online-only game made it a non-consideration for me. I read there was no single-player campaign and it was designed as a multiplayer game. Titanfall instantly came to mind. Guess I'm no better than people still saying Xbone doesn't play used games.

But more importantly, did I unnecessarily screw my nephew out of Star Wars for Christmas? :O Maybe I'll add it to my gift for him.

The game media's consistent inability to exorcise the demonstrably incompetent from among their ranks is one of it biggest problems. People like Kuchera and Geis absolutely flaunt their ignorance and bias. Their continued employment in this field is a dark mark on the credibility of the press writ large.

I think the Destiny thing probably explains some of the Halo drop. Halo fans always seemed to have a connection to Bungie beyond your usual FPS fanbase/developer relationship. CoD for example - no one seems to care who makes it, and after the (relatively) tepid response to Titanfall, no one really cared about following the original creative team.

Destiny was different through - and that had to have a big impact on Halo. A significant portion of the fanbase moved on.

A 5 dollar sale on steam probably makes more for SE than a bargain bin 10 or 20 dollar store bought retail console copy, some of which likely involved rebates to bring them to that pricing. Im sure that makes more than being paid to be on ps+ or gwg, which from what I understand isn't a massive amount. It also certainly makes more than the piles upon piles of used copies that littered the shelves of GameStop. It also certainly makes more than the negative dollars of getting the unsold copies back. Don't dismiss discount digital PC sales like so many people do.

To be fair they fit in well with Polygon. That website is pretty poor anyways.

It's like you missed the last part of the sentence you quoted or something.

I love ff7. But seriously I'm fucking suprise at my psn news feed with all these people playing the game. Like I thought everyone and their mother and their mothers mother have played ff7...

I never played it. Been gaming 30+ years, and I owned every Sony console.

Last FF's I played was 2 on the NES, and Mystic Quest (I know, the not really a FF) on SNES.

May finally give the Remake a shot.

I have played it at least 100 times. That doesn't mean I don't want to play it ever again. So I'm replaying it on the PS4 right now.

Never played it. Born in 94. Outside of a couple gems that stuck with me like Toy Story, Digimon, Tekken, Crash, Spyro, and Medievil, PS2 was my first true introduction into gaming.

Happily pick it up for <11$ on my PS4 though. We are 3 gaming generations onward and apparently classics never die.

Still, Eugene is The Artisan's trademark avatar, he's been avatar quoted countless times (including by myself), meaning that taking his unique avatar for a sales bet contest without even informing him first hand was not gentlemanlike in the first place. So I understand that he's not amused, and you really don't see him being not amused very often.

Here are the numbers from ZhugeEX regarding Halo 5.

Note he made an update that Halo 3's 3.3 was actually first two weeks (but I'm just posting about Halo 5 #'s we all know its a massive decline already)

So week 1 in October Halo 5 did 1.3 million w/ retail, bundles and digital.

I could see Halo 5 being close to 2 million in the US end of November.

What?

This is November NPD. Sales are included for the whole November. 935k in October and...what 358k in November. Where you get close to 2 million? You counted 60% digital sales?

In regards to Nintendo and its console future,

I am not sure what they can do?

They got lucky with the Wii because of the casual audience but how would they pull them back in ? No chance in todays market.

I guess as long as they make a profit and have sells like the Wii U is good enough.
