Scalebound delayed to 2017

Yes it was.

With Xbox's focus on the holiday season they will do anything possible to get Gears 4 out this year. If it gets delayed too they would have nothing.

That's better than a tarnished studio and newly acquired IP. Spencer's division is now being measured based on number of active Live users a month, so he can't afford to miss on big games that are supposed to drive those numbers higher or, worse, drive people away from the service because the games don't work.

I think it's going to make it after 3 years of development and a creative director who has been with the series the whole way. I just don't think Spencer is going to take any more risks like they did with MCC.

I don't question if it can make it. The question would it be a better game with a delay? Which is more important hitting the holiday season or releasing the best game possible? I have no idea how development is going this is just hypothetical question.

I'm just having a hard time imagining a scenario where the team asks for more time because they have to get something critical right and Spencer says no. If the game goes through an MCC-like experience then it's not hard to imagine the IP and the studio getting the same treatment as 343 and Halo. Then Spencer has to find other games to boost his active Live users numbers.

All that said, I agree with the person who said that this is one of those games where Spencer is probably doing everything possible in terms of resourcing to make sure it does make this fall/holiday as their tentpole release.

I thought the gameplay demo looked great and was looking forward to play it this year but no biggie if it's delayed. In general, delays doesn't bother me unless it is for a specific game I'm really looking forward too. There is so much software coming up between the three current gen consoles and PC.

Well I wasn't talking about technical issues like MCC. I'm sure he would not push out another broken game. Just in general making a better game. Say a few extras months to push a game from an 84 to a 90 level product. 3 years years should be plenty of time to make competent linear shooter so that should not even be an issue.

Those gameplay reveals last year indicated that it was supposed to be a fall 2016 title right ? So either P+ really needed time or MSFT are aware of how crowded 2016 is gonna be to risk another Rise of the Tomb Raider-like bomba, more so here for a new IP on one single platform.

Q1 2017 (Jan/Feb) is a really good time for this. More time for P+ to polish such an ambitious project and less possible risk from big name titles early in a year unless they're another first party exclusives. WIN-WIN. Hope they do really well with this title as it not just ends up being a great game, but also expands P+'s genres where more room for funding these kinda projects are available for all publishers with less risk in the market.

Probably depends where the game needed the extra polish. If it's the SP probably not. If it's the MP then maybe, but the fact they're supposedly still on a track for a Spring beta gives them quite a bit of time to identify and resolve any technical issues.

Also this makes me worry for NieR Automata. I always saw that game as a heavy candidate for delay before this announcement. I wonder how many employees are working on each project considering how thin they Platinum seems to be spreading themselves?

Is Gears using the judgement engine ported to UE4?

I can see that making this year but if they have to start from scratch with everything then a 2-3 year development time seems a bit on the short side... IMO

They already had UE4 experience, new one is using that not the Judgment engine

Yup, I never believed the 2016 date. I don't think that this really has anything to do with Nier, but I would absolutely not be surprised to see that as a 2017 game.

Also consider that The Coalition had level designers from Epic come to the studio early on and teach them the fundamentals of Gears level design. I think Fergusson did a lot of things to get this on the fast track. I'm really anxious to see how it turns out.

If we get Gears in 2016, I'm expecting that they'd show something a bit more substantially soon?

Maybe a story teaser in a few months?

And then some meaty gameplay footage during E3 with announcements for MP beta.

Well, the MP beta will be out before E3. It's scheduled for spring right now. Maybe in a month or two they'll start talking about it.

Where is that info from? I was under the impression that he had carte blanche as long he saved the brand after the reveal disaster.

It's either they're planning a massive Gears blow out of news/coverage or this thing is either very late 2016/Early 2017.

If they have made good progress, I don't understand why you wouldn't be slowing building hype since the November/December at least teasing with some information..

Well it's holiday 2016 release date, so yeah...

I expect it'll get a Game Informer cover soon to give details, that is how MS usually do their Halo/Gears info reel

MS tend to go dark with projects for long periods, this is part of that, they won't just dump the beta out, it'll be hyped leading up to the E3 campaign section

Yeah, I fully expect Gears to be released well into November to give TC as much time as possible. Like, November 22nd as the date makes a lot of sense. Of course it could end up being delayed too, we'll see.

But that's essentially why I'm not expecting them to drop crazy amounts of info before E3. We'll obviously see some of the multiplayer relatively soon but I'm not sure that we'll even see a single bit of the campaign prior to E3. I could be wrong though, it all depends on how much progress TC has made, which of course nobody knows about that right now except TC/MS themselves.

That's unfortunate, but hopefully it's for the best. Animations did have some jank to them during the last showing, so hopefully we can expect the crazy smooth animations one would expect from a Platinum title.

http://www.gamespot.com/articles/how-microsoft-will-report-xbox-numbers-going-forwa/1100-6431667/

Xbox is in the Windows team now and Nadella wants it to be integrated across all Windows 10 devices to help increase consumer appeal for Windows. In other words, Xbox is not its own business within MS any more, it's all about how it's increasing Windows adoption and usage.

More proof of that here: http://neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=191202345&postcount=185

Fingers crossed they utilize the time to dial back the 'tude of that XtR3m3 protagonist and iron out and or lock the framerate.

This makes me even more excited for this game. This means there's a much, much greater chance of it living up to all the hype surrounding it. I can only imagine what this thing will look like come 2017.

You've certainly got a hard on for me. Normally, I'd say I'm flattered, but with you it just comes off as creepy.

My comment was weird?

And yeah, you're going to have to explain this one to me - have I wronged you in some way previously? Or are you really this upset because I pulled two recent posts together where I noticed you seemed to contradict yourself within the hour?

Good on MS for actually allowing developers some time to work instead of strongarming games out of them for every holiday season.

To be honest, the latest footage wasn't exactly exciting for a Kamiya game. The W101 screamed fun from the get go. Scalebound seems to be the slowest Kamiya game in the gameplay department.
