PlayStation 4 hits 35.9 million sold through to end users

The no games comments are always weird.. there are quality multiplatform games and a rather monstrous upcoming lineup. Its not always about what games just came out, the future of PS4 looks healthy and that also makes it more attractive at the moment.

I don't know why its so difficult for some folks to accept this. A large percentage of folks who buy video games have zero interest in ever building a PC regardless of how easy it is nor do they really care about exclusives - they're just looking for the system that plays Madden and Call of Duty and is the one they can play with their friends.

When the PS4 jumped out of the gate early it really was almost impossible for MS to reverse the tides although they've generally done a good job trying to.

Very impressive. Now they just need some g.. ah well, that joke is already dead and buried.

Should be just slightly ahead of the XB1 2:1 I think.

This means that the number of PS4s sold through to consumers is likely to be 2x the amount of XB1s sold in (~18 million going by their recent PR) WW.

ZhugeEx estimated around 15 million sold in for XB1 in june. That number should be above 20 million by now, if that was true.

I said damn son. Now I'm REALLY curious as to what PS4 sales in December were in the US.

Let the speculation begin. Is it too early for 2016 sales predictions? Ryng tolu! I summon you!

This gen they also have the PS+ money which they never saw last gen. (PS+ came late last gen and didn't have many subs)

I don't know what to predict anymore, but 2016 PS4 will surely slow down, right?

With a possible Slim model, Sony's big hitters like Uncharted 4 and The Last Guardian, VR (I know this will get mixed reactions), good third-party deals that Sony always do; I don't think it's going to slow down at all. In fact I think 2016 could be bigger than 2015 in terms of sales.

Totally agree, also Street Fighter could give the PS4 sales a good boost next month.

Sony loves to toss their numbers out every chance they get. We all get it. They sold a TON of consoles...now how about they fix their network and put out some damn games.

There are a ton of games on the console.

Every time there is a sale and I'm browsing the store, I'm surprised at the sheer amount of games I see on there that I didn't know were there.

If you're talking 1st and 2nd party, I'm ok with them taking their time.

Yeah, 2* and 3* can be confusing, but the press release itself clearly specifies

PLAYSTATION®4 (PS4™) SELLS THROUGH 5.7 MILLION UNITS
WORLDWIDE DURING THE 2015 HOLIDAY SEASON
PS4 Software Sell through 35 Million over the Same Period,
PlayStation®Plus Subscribers Increase by 60% at the end of 2015

This means PS4 had a 6.14 tie ratio between November 22nd/23rd and January 2nd/3rd

Anecdotal of course, but in AU we had alot of bundles with 3 or 4 games packed in...

So it would be easy to rack up a high tie ratio, when they pick up the other 1 or 2 games they really wanted also...

I'm glad to be one of the 5.7 million people who bought a PS4 during the holidays. Pretty impressive sold through figures!

Wouldn't announcing sales bring in more games?

Publishers are risk averse. They don't want to greenlight anything if they don't think it will sell.

So when they see news of a console selling really well it should put them in the mood of making more games no?

Its cool and all, but i dont understand why its still selling so well.

I mean since its launch, nothing really improved in OS or Services aka PSN. Some of the first Party games for my taste are really uninteresting and really dont provide much if you are multiplayer gamer.

I mean XboxOne IMO does it way better at the moment. Monthly OS Updates, we got a completly redesigned and faster UI, BC and the Games with Gold selection is way better too over the month and with BC even better.

Sure its great that its selling well, but i really cant understand it. Sure the Hardware is better. But cmon nobody can deny that Sony is really lazy so far.

More people want What Sony offers, I know it's hard for you, but it's just how it is.

I mean, you didn't even mention ' the greatest line up in Xbox history' do OS Updates mean so much more to you? Lol.

very true. PC as a gaming platform is nonexistant among my friends and we just now got Xbox Ones.

Rockefellers. Skull and Bones. Microsoft. Al Qaeda. A Cabal of Bankers. The melting point of steel. What do these things have in common? Wake up sheeple, the landfill wasn't even REAL!
a 40 million users base for the PSVR

Wow, congratulations Sony! And with 2016 coming up with PSVR, Uncharted, Horizon, Final Fantasy, Gran Turismo and a lot of other huge titles I would not be surprised to see a 20% growth this year as well!

This is what happens when you deliver what consumers want with no bullshit.
The best and most powerful console platform for games this generation with the biggest and highest quality games library. All at the best or at least competitive price.

No deceiving here. Just a straight up "heres how many people own a PS4". No bullshit PR statement.
I just find it funny that you'll happily swallow one thing and eat the other as if it's a sour pill. And please spare me your excuses.

Yes, man, thanks for remembering the pain I endured for so long. If you remember, I said many times that I had a big exam in November. So I finally got a PS4 in early December. :p

i'm genuinely curious as to who's going to buy the nx outside of nintendo fans.

That's it. Wii was lightning in a bottle. Wii-U went back to "Nintendo fans and second system owners" status just like Gamecube. NX will be the same.

Holly crap! Does this mean the ps4 is on a track to beat ps2 sales?

Well, not really, because those are 2001 sales, launch allinied should be 2002 VS 2015.

2002 PS4 holidays sales were 8.5 million according to Zhuge. (but PS2 2002 sales are for whole of november included.)

Still. Impressive numbers. PS4 won't beat PS2, but those sales are amazing.
