NPD Sales Results for January 2016

I like how they talk about their 'unmatched lineup of games' and then highlight Rocket League as a major future release.

What else are they going to say? At least you liked it.

*edit*

How much has MS made on Minecraft by now? They have to be pulling in some impressive profits. Best $2B ever spent?

What's this guy's story? Context please.

I think kagari said something about not getting into this twitter convo more... but anyways, he is a massive console warrior for the Xbox 1.

I think its safer to move past this guy and his theatrics on twitter anyways. Good month for Sony!

Yeah, nowadays "world premiere" trailers at events are not necessarily confirmation of marketing deals.

Sometimes there are none at all, and a publisher chooses to be relatively agnostic.

Can someone with COD on XB1 post the career all-time leader board numbers?
PS4 version is at 12.9 Million right now.

Also I noticed the weekly leader boards reset Monday 6:00am Eastern and by 6am Tuesday over 1.5 Million PSN accounts are logged on the boards.

Also interested in X360,PS3,PC career all-time numbers if anyone has those versions.

I see MS has continued playing its game of cat and MAUs. Haven't had time to read through the entire thread yet. Still working my way through. Anything particularly noteworthy I should be checking out?

Uh, last gen consoles are ded? They only made up roughly 4% of consoles sold in January.

February 2016 Microsoft PR:

“Our fans continue to set records. Rocket League sold most on Xbox One this month and is the best ever selling racing game released in 2016 on Xbox."

You can probably get those answers quicker in the BLOPS III OT here.

I think it was revealed on one of their stages though. But even if they do have a marketing deal with that game. It's not going to push hardware. Just diversify the portfolio.

Look at the intro movie that was released recently. At the end, there was a "preorder now" image, with the ps4 box in front, Xbox behind and pc at the back. Pretty sure that means that either Sony has it or nobody does.

But MGSV was exclusive to XB1.....for 4 minutes.....in Greenberg's mind. You know what, forget it. :p

Wasn't that Major Nelson? Almost threw me into a fit of rage at the time.

Point is, without exclusives, they wouldn't be where they're at right now.

By how much exactly? The system would more than likely be doing similarly as its new exclusives outside of Halo didn't really have big sales.

Without exclusives, Wii U wouldn't have sold half that.

Pretty much every popular Wii U game is an exclusive so if the system didn't have exclusives, it would pretty much have no games at all at this point.

On top of this, you bringing this up goes against your point considering the Wii U is doing so poorly even though many (including me) feel it has great exclusives.

And exactly how are they generating more console sales when they lost a sale due to their exclusive going to PC?

More people get to play Qunatum Break. More people will talk about it if it's good. People who don't play on PC (i.e.: most console gamers) may end up getting an Xbox One from hearing other people's (PC and console gamer) impressions.

This move isn't going to change things much in my opinion. Xbox sales alongside Quantum Break now being on PC too will more than likely be similar to how the system would sell if it was an exclusive with the point I stated above causing a balance vs. people who aren't going to get an Xbox One due to Q.B. coming to PC.

It's sad that I actually had to think a little about whether this is fake PR or not.

GTA V is going to be a double dip for me. Bought it in November last year and will buy in maybe the next steam sale if I'm far enough in through my backlog

The visual upgrades are great, but GTA has an awesome modding community, and the PC version is worth it for the trainer alone.

You and Hoje are asking the impossible. Fact is, exclusives, controller, Live, friends, pricepoint(main reason imo) all play a role on why someone would choose to buy an Xbox One. Saying exclusives doesn't affect sales is just dumb.

I don't know what you're trying to prove, there's already a thread about people not buying Xbox One now that QB will be coming out for PC.

I sit somewhere in the middle of the 'exclusives don't matter' and 'exclusives are huge drivers of sales' camps. Like demigod I think exclusives when considered collectively makes a significant difference - individually only a few like 'Uncharted' and 'Halo' make a big enough impact to sway customers.

Sold my PS3 copy, sold my PS4 copy, guess its time to buy a PC copy of GTA V. Have to support the game in case it doesn't do well next month.

But I never said that though -- I said that they aren't playing a big role this gen. Third party marketing deals and multiplats have caused a far bigger impact on console sales this gen in comparison to exclusives.

I'm just replying to what you stated; I didn't start the discussion.

"But NPD points out that the industry has essentially completed the transition from last gen to the current gen. So Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony shouldn’t count on sales from Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3."

So true - Nintendo should never count on 360 or ps3!!
