The difference between Soul Calibur (which has those features) and DoA (which doesn't) is massive. I'd love to see SC ditch that crap and get back to actually creating good designs.

Is it just me or do all of these DOA girls, have the exact same, or nearly the exact same body types/figures?

If I remember correctly, when modders went into the game they found that the DoA5 vanilla ladies only had 4 core body types shared between them, with extremely minor differences between those 4 types for each girl. And those 4 types weren't all dissimilar to begin with.

Nyotengu, Marie, and Honoka are all pretty unique / easily distinguishable though so hopefully things will be better from here on out.

best to just look at some videos and decide for yourself, nothing's pancake status, but it's nothing to write home about either

My favorite part of Soul Calibur 4 was wrecking fools as Planet Hulk. SC is one of the few games that has a good character creator. It has enough options to actually make unique characters.


That being said DoAX3 could use some different different bodies, but overall I like the faces on all the characters and think they are well designed.

If only the roster was more diverse and expansive. I want Latin-American girls, Native American girls, Central Asian girls, West Asian girls, Middle-Eastern girls, North/South/East/West African girls, Mediterranean girls, South Asian girls, South East Asian girls, Oceanian/Polynesian girls, Korean girls, Scandinavian girls, East-European girls, etc. in DoA. More variety in face and body types, personality, characteristics, style, etc., as well.

Let me rephrase that. A robust character creation for DoA could be interesting.

Massive is overselling it. There hasn't been a deluge of excellent character designs from DoA over the past few years vs. a drought from Soul Calibur. And Soul Calibur's character creator is a bad example. I don't remember how the outfit selection was, but strictly in terms of facial customization it's bad. In that regard, there are much better character creators out there. Dragon's Dogma, for one. Heck, I'd say even the one in Dark Souls is better. As for costumes, considering the hundreds of DLC costume for DoA5 and likely DoAX3, clothing wouldn't be an issue for them.

As it stands, we have 4-5 (at best) body types with slight variations for three times as many female characters. While DoA offers more variety than most 3D fighters in terms of body types, considering their massive focus on the female body and things like body fat physics they could stand to improve so much more in that area.

Enemy of good design it might be, but DoA is not the strongest fighter in that regard either way. A character creator was just the most obvious solution I could think of to provide lots of new and diverse characters any time, as TK isn't going to do that any time soon. I realize that might be something only I'm concerned about, and my apologies for potentially railroading this thread about a very specific opinion, but considering the series' immense focus on women and sex, I really wish they blew the competition out of the water (no pun intended) in terms of the physical diversity of its roster, female or otherwise.

Tekken has it beat in terms of diversity of ethnicity. What else is there? MK and SC? SC is slightly more diverse. DoA beats MK, but there will never be anyone or anything like D'vorah or Ferra in DoA.

Briefly looking at the Hong Kong PSN store, there doesn't seem to be a standard price for what we'd consider a regular $59.99US release. I'm seeing stuff ranging from $398HK to $449HK which ranges in the $50s when you convert it.

Play Asia right now is offering the asian release at $59.99, which is actually kind of rare because their Japanese releases tend to be around $69. That said, there's shipping to consider. You got two options, the cheap option (I think it's $5 something) which gives you a month time frame of when it will get to you, or the higher price option (Around $12 for my order) which delivered via FedEx and took WAY less time than I had expected in my own experience.

But then we get into how you'd pay for it digitally, you'd have to buy a prepaid card, like a $500HK card, which Play-Asia is selling for $69.99, which is about a $5+ markup.

So basically, your cheapest option would probably be physical with slow as shit shipping. Of course, I'm only using Play-Asia as my basis, because I have not looked into the other couple of sites offering the asian release, nor have I dealt with them.

The way they're doing the version exclusive stuff is annoying. Looks like I'm SOL since I don't have a Vita, not that I would actually buy two copies of the game. And I didn't realize there were other version exclusive things besides the Venus . . . this sucks

If you get the PS4 version all you are missing out on I believe is the Venus swimsuit (which is pretty similar to the fortune one anyway) and the touch screen. edit: And also maybe the Honoka swimsuit that comes with early copies?
If you are referring to other version exclusive swimsuits, you will be able to get them as DLC.

The plant one is only with the collectors edition of the Vita version, it's not really a part of the actual Vita version of the game, and it says they will be selling it as DLC as well after, but yea hard to say when that will be.

it most likely is... I doubt there will be much unqiue hairstyles other than the ones that were in DOA5LR...

They are not afraid to let the character show up on other games so it wouldnt hurt to make maybe a spin off and see how it fares.
