I have a question about this game. Many videos shows the people playing this game but in their actual house space...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHE2xEesS00

Is this something you can actually do with the game because that is incredible if that is the case. Do you need something special beyond the Vive kit in order to do this? This might sell me on a Vive if it works like that video shows...

That is indeed how the game works by default. That's what roomscale is. This video is actual gameplay. But if you want to be able to record videos of your actual body moving around your house/game you'll need extra equipment like a depth sensor and a camera with another positional tracker on it.

I don't know if I got what you're asking...but yes, that's the game.

You don't see your actual room though while in the game, you see the virtual space.

Does anyone know if the pre-order bonuses will go away on the 5th? Wondering if I should just put an order down and then decide in May after impressions come through.

Ah ok, yeah I was curious if you could actually see your room in the game. That was the question but I figured that would be way to cool to be a thing. Maybe the next version of the hardware.

They don't see their room in game, it's all VR there. The video is a mixed reality showing what they're doing in VR superimposed on reality. Hardware wise, it requires an additional controller to track the positional space of the camera (also not included). Then the video you see is created in post.

Looking forward to seeing how much they push the difficulty on that one. It could be pretty fun to watch high level play depending on how far they push the Twister potential.

It can get to the point where you have less than half a second to react.

I don't know how much I'm allowed to say about certain games but...

  • Audioshield is incredible!!
  • Job Simulator and Fantastic Contraption are amazing fun!
  • Final Approach is fun and interesting. Kinda didn't expect to have as much fun as I did.
Did you sign an NDA or something? Tell us everything, god dammit!

Uh, you just bought a Pre off EBay. You're not bound by NDA, dude. Lol.

just preordered, fuck it, i want to make sure my game works well with both

Super excited at videos of Budget Cuts and Pirate Trainer. It's gonna be nuts when big 'ol games start getting built for these new controllers.

Pirate Trainer is insane. Very addicting. When you play don't forget you can walk. It quickly becomes impossible without physically dodging bullets. Being able to switch between different firing modes/types on the fly is an outstanding feature.

You'll definitely have lots of fun!

It's awesome that lighthouse tech is so expandable. Someone needs to create a method of tracking feet. I have a bunch of gameplay concepts in mind that would benefit from knowing where your feet were in space, mainly for accurate pose detection.

I wonder how feasible it would be to create a slip for your shoe that has valve's photosensors all over them to track.

I'm actually pretty excited about my Stems coming now, because I can experiment with foottracking by the end of april. I have an idea for a game where you ride a board like a surf board or skate board.

So If a game is compatible with the rift ( like they patch in support) will it still work the vive, and vice versa?

Ummm no they need to specifically support each headset. Although Valve has this software called OpenVR which when implemented allows for support of all headsets.

It depends on which API they use to make it work. If they used SteamVR or OpenVR, it'll work. If they used Oculus SDK, it won't work. If they used OSVR, it will eventually work.

I went to put in my order and it said payment authorization failed. I'm guessing that's my card blocking the authorization?

Do the enemies in pirate trainer change? From the few videos I watched, it looked like they were pretty samey as the waves went on. Or does the gameplay get more involved? Not seeing the appeal just yet. =/

It is the most dramatic example of not being able to fully appreciate VR from screenshots or videos I've ever experienced. It looks basic and shallow and it probably is. But there is such a massive difference between aiming a cursor at some robots, and actually being in that space aiming guns at them. The sheer physicality of the space is insane and the guns are both natural to use and quite easy to aim. The first time you dodge incoming fire like Neo from the matrix is great - time slows down to give you time to react, you dodge to the side and then track the blasts with your head as they skim past you just a few inches away. You'll grin like a crazy person guaranteed :)

Do we know if the Vive comes with the screws needed to wallmount it? Alternatively, what's the work on using command strips to hold them to the wall?

Don't know if it comes with screws because there are so many different wall types to account for. Worth remembering it has a standard camera tripod socket so you can use anything designed for cameras to attach it wherever you want. Those pedro clamps looked good but they're £30 each in the UK. Think I might need them for any portable use in the living room though - can clip to a cupboard and a curtain pole.

Anyone found good USB/HDMI extension cables for running to another room? Can probably lug my PC around the house a few times but that'll get annoying very fast

No update on shipping for anyone in Europe overnight?

It's going to be a long day isn't it? Though as a cheeky queue jumper (refreshed the order page until April appeared) I'm not holding my breath.

That's not bad. We still haven't receive the shipping info, you might still catch the first batch or so.

Yeah, I just want a clear answer: if it's yes, I want it back where it was.

If it's no, just tell me and I'll re-order and wait a month or so. I'm super busy for work anyway, damn it.xD

HTC Italy has no clue, they suggested to just wait for a few days for updates

I'm in Switzerland, but they share the italian speaking support, they seemed to know what's up.

I might try to call HTC uk if anything else fails. I'm not waiting another day or two.

I think he was asking about delivery, not cancelled orders.

Yeah xD

On a different note: I hope they'll offer the choice to buy another headset and a new pair of controllers down the line. Since lighthouse support more than 1 player I'll buy a second set in a heartbeat for VR coop.

From r/Vive

Yep yep. Just got off from the phone with the DHL guy.
My order's not coming through air-mail, it's Economy shipping instead of Express shipping, and it's going to arrive here on the 11th. Now I'm waiting for a call from HTC to explain this fuck-up.
It's not like I could've even chosen Economy shipping: 90 euro Express shipping was literally the only option.

That would piss me off even more tbh, damn

My vive just arrived in my state of Hawaii. It probably won't move past that until tuesday. And I'm working every weekday this week 10am-10pm so who will pick it up?

Damn, I have the e-mail open in one tab and every time there is a (1) in the title of the tab I almost jump off the chair. Maybe I should close that tab and focus on work.

This is an awesome write up. I was watching people rave about how amazing a game it is. But watching them play was like... Ok so? Looked boring. But now I understand better after reading your post.

Hype.

I just had a heart attack after seeing HTC in the email folder

It was the quality survey from the chat
