More probable than 14nm and Polaris, which i am entertaining.
Let me elaborate. First, staying at 40nm for edram now means they will likely have to ride out the generation at 40nm. When 28nm has been the norm for years, and 14nm will likely be the norm next year. That would put them at a far greater disadvantage than whatever that 32MB/64MB might give them. Second, just think of it - AMD's Seattle and Jaguars/Pumas are all 28nm. AMD has nothing contemprary in the 40nm range (bobcats and terascale, ahoy!)

Thanks for the detailed answers.

Is it possible but not improbable that Nintendo would with a 40nm fab process again to get 64mb+ edram in their SOC. They can use some really customized 40nm parts from AMD. I don't think they'll be able to fit the 16 rops needed for 1080p 60fps ports. Perf would be 4x Wii U max. Yuck.

Let's not get too crazy now, we already know that the NX will use a semi-custom APU from AMD. No more highly customized stuff.

This recent leak about Zelda just reinforces the fact that Nintendo cant wait until E3 to unveil the NX. leaks are inevitable and leakers will unveil it for them if they wait that much.

How can you possibly come up with a chart where almost ALL of the unknown information is guessed at?? How do people even begin to make these and not think they're silly?

That was my question as well. It makes no sense to me.

One thing that the NX needs aside from comparable hardware, is a mature user interface - what we've seen on the 3DS/Wii/Wii U simply won't cut it. Something fast and responsive - the first Xbox One dashboard is an example of what not to do with a dashboard even when you have decent hardware.

Would be nice to add in Wii U too, and more lines for the y axis..

Is that not a pointless comparison ?

GPU can be compared I suppose, but RAM should be Bandwidth if your trying to suggest game performance, which is complex to do with some having on chip RAM but not enough of it.

I always suspected the PS3 had a lot of blue, but never realized just how much.

Haha. Almost spit my coffee out. I'm not even sure what meaningful metric would let you place both CPU and RAM on the same chart like that. Y axis must be pixie dust.

That's quite informative, thanks!

It's a relatively short document, and not too advanced. I can post the conclusion:

Conclusion
We have demonstrated a 28nm high-performance,
high-density HKMG eDRAM process technology that
achieves 600MHz random access frequency. Access
transistors, with industry’s smallest 28/20nm cells
(0.035/0.021 um²
), generate an ION of >50uA with an IOFF
of <1fA/ <3fA, respectively. It paves a clear path for
future cell scaling. The CMOS and MIM reliability tests
confirm our high-quality MIM capacitor construction that
is also HKMG process compatible.
I wonder though if Nintendo could go with something more exotic like Z-RAM (due to AMD involvement), but that technology isn't too mature I think.

I'm looking forward to the handheld. Should have enough power to run some pretty games. 3DS had some amazin games, can't wait to see what the next handheld will bring to the table

As Z-RAM has yet to appear in any products by this point, I very much doubt we'll ever see it. I'd take the same philosophy to 28nm eDRAM. There were a few comments by Renesas about planned 28nm eDRAM around 2010, but the fact that we haven't seen any four years in to the node, it's likely that there simply weren't enough customers to make it commercially viable. Nowadays pretty much the only companies you'll see researching eDRAM are Intel and IBM, because they don't need customers for it, it's all for their own chips.

If you had to put money on the APU and ram used in the NX. What do you think would have the highest chance of making you the most? Assuming the closer you are the more payout there is.

Sorry guys, I went to The Division and forgot this xD

I completely forgot to explain what each thing is, SORRY! :lol

Thank you!

And as someone mentioned, the RAM in there is actually related to the overall RAM bandwidth and not the amount of it.

"Beating the Jaguar is trivial" = Lol :D (yes, obviously), that's all :)
