NPD Sales Results for May 2016

double jump

you haven't lived until a random little kid ask you "how do you make love".
The hell at gtav in the top 5 ?

That game has become sentient at this point.

God of War 4 will not sell more than 1 million in NPD.

A full fledged GOW on PS4 with marketing def can.

I doubt it - I have a feeling that franchise already has fatigue like Halo did. Needs to do something mechanically spectacular to get those sales.

ps3ud0 8)

It looks like 4 is making some changes and you can't base GOW on Ascension like you can't judge gears on Judgement.

I never said it's going to change the tide. I simply implied that Gears is a big first party title that shouldn't be brushed off yet (especially not for North America) considering it's one of the biggest console exclusives releasing this year.

Considering that the Gears series hasn't had as rough of a past 4-5 year period as the Halo series, yes it's possible. I'm not saying it will though. Just stating that it's too soon to jump to conclusions in my opinion.

I don't think there's all that much excitement for it myself. That could all change with a good demo next week - but it'll need to be good.

That was a pretty crazy month for the NPD, with four games selling over a million between both platforms or both versions.

Yeah, huge month, FF XIII, Bad Company 2, Pokemon and GoW III in the million club.

Probably an all time record for million sellers in march.

It is something that has perplexed me for a while. What will MS use as their big exclusive after Gears?

Sea of Thieves seems like it could be a big deal, but that's going to take a lot of muscle on MS's part to help it get attention. "It's Rare's first big non-casual game in ages!" isn't going to be enough for the mass audience, especially with how little the name of that developer means these days.

So the X1 has not fallen behind the 360 yet?

This is why XBO sales being considered poor is relative to what you are comparing it to.

vs. PS4, yes.

vs. 360? Not so much. If Nintendo didnt drop the ball so hard with the Wii U XBO numbers could have looked even worse in comparison to the Wii U.

Good job to Uncharted 4, Doom, and Overwatch (which I'm sure sold most of its copies digital on PC and thus isn't counted on NPD), wonder how big the gap between 3 and 4 is though since I would wager that Battleborn is closer to GTAV and the big-selling games every month compared to the other three new releases.

Performance increases may only apply to the 2DS itself, and not all of the 3DS family.

OOT3D making the top 25 list for NPD (individual SKUs, I imagine?) is a pretty neat trick. It's never too late to start up a greatest hits line.

I don't think Gears will do much to actually make a difference, but I don't share your optimism. I'm more on the realistic side.

Hell yeah Doom is number 2! The game is so god damn great! I hope with its success that people see that type of gameplay is still worth making. The game is just so damn good!

Ehh -- I think I'm being realistic. Gears hasn't had a disappointing Halo 4 + MCC like combo and the remake did well last year. I think it has decent chance of having a bigger impact than Halo 5 (which probably would have sounded crazy 4 years ago).

Gears gameplay in 2016 has not aged well and it had a judgement, it's not going to light the charts on fire imo.

Plenty in MP. It's actually pretty popular too, thanks to the couple betas before release.

True but I don't think UC is as popular for MP as other shooters, of course I have no facts just a gut feeling.

This is complete bullshit. On average you kill about 400-500 guys in a playthrough.

I was joking relax....but as far as shooters go there is definitely a lot less the then average shooter, there is more traversal, slow parts then combat.

I was under the impression Uncharted games were TPS?

It is but did you play it? There is a lot of not shooting in the game, more story, exploration and traversal.

If the stars are aligned (bigger installed base, PS4 Neo, november launch) anything is possible for God of War 4. Same goes for The Last of Us 2.

I can't wait for Horizon too, for a new IP launching in 8 months, the awareness around this game looks extremely promising :)

Bethesda now needs to let id revive Quake, give me the gothic atmosphere of Quake 1 pls none of that sci-fi bullshit.

Ok, I'll bite. What are your realistic expectations for Gears?

To me, realistic in this scenario would be winning NPD that month and that's it. I don't even know if the margin would be considerable.

I think God of War 4 will still be big in the US, but it'll need an aggressive marketing push just to make sure it sells well, for good measure.
