Interesting. So basically Premium PS4 for 399$ or 449$ in 2017? Don't think they'll release it this year if it's not present at E3.

Guess I'll be keeping my old one for a little longer than anticipated.

Yeah i forsee that as well 399 thats their sweetspot for the premium version. Drop the OG model to 299 or 249.

Interesting that he said it's "in development". Doesn't sound like something with finalized specs that would be ready for fall launch.

My guess is Scorpio scared them, and they refuse to come in underpowered.

I will never understand the PS4 Neo overreaction when it's been confirmed that games will work on both and that it's just a revision like the New 3DS. Some of you are making it seem like the work is ending because Sony is releasing a revision and Microsoft wants to rebrand their product.

I think this way impacts it more. Now there will be a group of people that buy neither. I don't want to spend 350 on hardware for a worse experience, and I don't want to buy a new console, so now they get nothing.

Exactly. That's my line of reasoning right now. Wait for the Neo so the VR games look better. There'll be more VR stuff on the shelf by next November too.

Well, Nintendo, you're up. This will be the best time to sell me an NX.

they already don't do that for plenty of 1080p games. A reasonably updated PS4 with specs as previously rumoured could probably manage 4k/30 fine. Or 1080p/60/AA for those of us peasants that still have 1080p TVs :)

Well fuck 4K then. I rather take 1080p with AA and higher fps.

I'm here waiting for the same backslash Nintendo got for not revealing NX at E3.

That basically confirms it will not be out this year, right?
I imagine you would see less on the basis they can still show all the same games regardless.

Like if Sony announced their conference would only have Horizon and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare this thread would be six times as long already.

Good. Makes me even more excited for their conference knowing it'll be purely focused on PS4 games and some VR.

I'll be happy if it can play 4K blu ray movies. I really doubt it will be able to run games at 4K but let's see. Maybe they're waiting for MS to make the first move?

Also regarding the price I kinda hope it's around $500 so they can cram some good shit in. I'll gladly buy it.

Isn't everything in development till it's released? lol

So either a gamescom and October release or perhaps they are redesigning it now to be more of a generational leap in power to match the Scorpio and it will be next spring.

I wonder to what extent Sony / Microsoft are reacting to Nintendos NX plans now, it seems they might be.

Nintendo is not really a player in this space at the moment, they do their own thing. Cannot see that changing.

Sony probably reacting to Scorio leaks if anything.

Just because they won't be showing the PS4K, to those of you freaking out, that doesn't mean that they won't show footage of a game running on it with the promise to show more at a future event.

I'm shocked by how much people have turned around to the idea of a new PS4 coming. Everyone was freaking out about it and throwing stones at Sony what seems like a minute ago.

I still dislike the idea but there's no point on arguing anymore. It will happen no matter what.

Effectively, Andrew House just announced Neo albeit low key in the FT. The news will spread very quickly, though. So even Sony don't think it will affect sales of PS4.

If that's "announced", then NX was officially announced over a year ago.

I know what you're getting at, so maybe we should rather talk about "reveal" than "announce". I asume there won't be a notewhorthy impact unless they show the console itself or announce reveal price and launch date.

I'm still throwing stone at it.

It's probably best to not show it at E3 and make too much of a big deal about it... It's not the launch of a new gen, so they need to keep it lower-key then what they would normally do for a new gen launch.

Is there going to be a new gen? Or are they going to move into the Apple model, just keep rolling out new iterations and phasing out the old, while still moving along with the same evolving OS to keep everyone directly tied to the ecosystem? That seems like the best play if you want to maintain a lead like they have now. A new gen just resets to zero and lets Microsoft back in the game.

So if the Xbox Scorpio gets revealed does Sony roll out presentation B and announce the Neo? Seems like too big of an adjustment if they are already planning not to.

This is the plan.

Well at least Sony plans on showing more than one game.

But honestly I dont see this obsession with the unveil of new hardware. If its not ready to be shown... than its not ready. Its not like they dont have their reasons to hold on to that announcement.

No it's not a replacement, it's a high end option both will play the same games.....

Okay, I guess I did read that wrong then. Because from a consumer perspective the neo would be a replacement or alternative. There's no sense in having both.

From Sony's perspective which I should have assumed he's speaking from it's not a replacement of course.

Got it.

I'm buying a 4k TV today, so little bummed out that this probably isn't coming out until next year, but ah well.

That said, if this allows Sony to change up those leaked specs GB got and maybe juice it up a bit more in light of the rumored Scorpio specs, then I'll gladly take that with a 2017 release.

This isn't a last minute decision.

Do you think they will go for the beefed up CPU that you hinted at (for extra cost) when you first mentioned this on GAF ?

I am hoping for some ZEN and Bandwidth bumps, 4+ TF is fine, No need for more GPU, CPU and delivery needs love for 60 FPS gaming.

Even 4k at 30fps takes a chunk of horsepower. The Neo is an upgrade, not the second coming :p

Maybe launching VR to be used in the current consoles will be a mistake. I thought VR needed more power, thus the new improved versions of both consoles

Didn't Sony say last year that Paris Games Week is their EU event from now on? Will they even have a press conference on GC?

As far as hardware is concerned, what more can Sony offer?

A TV Tuner and DVR capabilities like Xbox One?

Man, wouldn't that make Microsoft feeling good enduring all the hate for introducing the console as a media box first?

Is there any way to read the link without subbing?

here try this one

In an interview with the Financial Tmes, Sony executive Andrew House has confirmed that a new, more-powerful PlayStation 4, codenamed "Neo," is coming, but says it will not be unveiled at E3. House, who is the president and global chief executive of Sony Interactive Entertainment, says the new system will be sold alongside the existing PS4 for the entirety of this console generation. "It is intended to sit alongside and complement the standard PS4," he told the FT, "we will be selling both [versions] through the life cycle."

The new console will output both video and games at up to 4K resolution. House confirmed reports that all games released this generation will continue to support the base PS4 model. As for what the "Neo" will support, House said "all or a very large majority of games will also support the high-end PS4." We assume that means all games will run on Neo, but some may not be optimized to offer graphical improvements. Otherwise that's just crazy talk.

The rest of the interview is light on real news. House said the new console will target hardcore gamers and those with a 4K television looking for more high-res content. He noted that the console will be more expensive than the base model, which is a given, but would not give a price, a release date, or even a date when the machine would be formally announced. The one thing he did confirm? It won't be at E3 next week.

The reason behind House's sudden openness on the subject is obvious: Microsoft is widely rumored to be announcing its own set of hardware refreshes at a press conference on Monday. Sony wants investors and the public alike to be aware that something better is around the corner in the world of PlayStation as well.
