I just don't see a world where most of the PS users buy a Scorpio instead of a 4K. Even if the machine is more powerful and does more. If we were talking a new gen where everyone has to make a change sure. Sonys market lead isn't going anywhere. People aren't going to leave digital libraries and friend lists behind.

Is Sony scrambling to change the specs of the machine to try to now match or beat what the rumored Scorpio specs are? I mean, for hardware rumored to be coming this fall, it's strange to miss your largest venue of the year to show it off, announce price/specs/release date, unless all of that is currently now in flux.

I mean, if there is another iteration on the ps4, the vanilla is gonna get hit hard. There'd be no point to upgrading the tech in 2020/2021 if all games were still shackled to 2013 tech.

Regarding suggesting it to a friend, I wouldn't - but I wouldn't recommend buying an iPhone over the summer either when there's a refresh coming in a couple of months.

Alright SonyGaf, I'm sure people will be rushing out to buy PS4's to buy games that will be shown on a better platform or PC at E3, makes sense.

Although the news is exciting I think a new PS4, who will,in my opinion, divide players, is coming too soon.
Sony actually tells me ' hey hardcoregamer ( and I hate that word ), your ps4 is no longer powerful enough, jump in or you'll miss this boat'. This makes me worried. I almost feel forced to buy a Neo. I know but they don't but, I'm actually still quite happy with my PS4 and XboxOne so I'm just gonna wait and see if it's worth the upgrade.

Its not the fun base that made up things.
All the respectful news sites made hundreds of articles about the system, its specs and even Sony policy in game releases on the system and they didnt made a comment for months.
And they didnt comment so they could measure the reaction of their fun base in a possible upgradeable console (every few years) model going forward.
We even got from Yoshida a comment that he was not sure whether there will be a PS5.

yup yup, all my friends want to get back into destiny, and it will just depend on if we want to wait for a "super" Ps4 or not, that's it...I think we speculate on forums and are informed of a lot of stuff before mainstream gamers are and we get those mindsets very confused. I see a ton of gamers ignoring Neo and picking up a $250 PS4 even in 2017 and beyond.
Get off the forums people, and actually go and play video games, that's what the mainstream gamers are doing, and likely are not at all upset by any of this crap. Forums have created this narrative along with a bunch of FUD because this is new for the industry. The Neo may come out and only sell 10% of the Ps4 install base and Sony will just steadily support good ol'Ps4 until it's time to really shift to something amazing. I'm not getting an IPhone 7 this year, iPhone 6 doing just fine...

What logic are you using? Didn't effect the PS2, it won't effect ps4.. Most powerful has never been the main selling point. PS2 was weaker, sold way more, people go for what more people have whats cheaper, whats popular, that's PS4. More power is the least of MS issue, Europe is not going to stop buyting PS4's for xbox because of scorpio coming out. Your post is fan fiction at it's best.

From all accounts Scorpio is way way ahead in the future. Sooo.. people aren't going to pick up a PS4 in the very near future or even away at Xmas for a really great price in a bundle full of amazing games like Uncharted 4, just because Microsoft, who have really screwed up their brand since the XB1, has a console announced that won't come out for another year and will likely be a very premium price?!
Yeah sure. PS4 is killing it this gen, not just on the tech side, but on the whole experience and brand (remember outside of US and UK to some extent, Xbox is an absolutely dead brand and PS4 sales are way WAY ahead).

House's comments change absolutely nothing in the eyes of the average consumer. PS4 will continue to sell until the day Neo is fully unveiled. And considering the standard SKU will likely receive another price drop this fall, it'll continue to sell even after Neo is revealed to the public.
I think comparing this market to PS2 era is completely mindless. Wholly different console ecosystem.
