Sony confirms PS4 Neo, [Cites smartphone cycle, waiting until enough games post E3]

Mate, he just announced it to the press today, what in the hell are you talking about?!?

lol you think this is going to tank sales? A short mention of what everyone already knew was coming? Sites have reported on Neo for months. It's clear there is no reasoning with you though so I'm done with this.

Its not rumors when all the mainstream media wrote about Neo for months or when Sony executives talked about a possible stronger PS4, or when AMD in its fiscal reports talked about three new custom consoles APUs in the following months.

I believe that gamers now are more confused on what to do and that probably will make them choose to wait than to buy a current PS4 model.

I am a fun of the company and I love its products, but this is a communication mess that confuses people and investors.

Just wait to hear the press questions on Sony executives in E3. When the Neo comes out? is this running on Neo? will it have better framerate in Neo? etch

And let’s see how the market reacts to the news and how Sony stock will do in the following weeks, shall we?

Yes yes. And while all of this has been going on the PS4's sales in the US are up 36% for the month compared to last year and 13% YTD YOY.

Everyone is so confused that even more people are buying ps4's at the moment than they were last year when the Neo wasn't even a thing.

What a mess.

A mess @ the "Sony is scared of Scorpio" posts

This is how you do it.

Don't announce new hardware six months in advance when you want to continue selling your existing model at a blistering pace.

Announce the new model when it's nearly ready to ship.

FYI, this is also why we won't be seeing a Scorpio announcement 18 months in advance. It would be utterly insane.

Every human individual is different, some will want the more expensive powerful one, most of the mass market will go with the cheaper one, it's not hard.

Jesus, if you're not even going to use your brain why keep responding to my post? I say one thing, you misinterpret and respond. wash, rinse, repeat.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Yeah, it makes more sense to officially unveil it not that far from the release, so E3 is not the right time. Think about the announcement-to-release period for DSi/DSi XL in Japan and 3DS XL/New 3DS as the reference point for PS4 Neo.

Also, higher than $349.99 + standalone profitable at the time is launched = 399.99 as the base value, IMHO it could be 449.99 too.

I'm sorry but this does not make any sense. People are hyped for a better console so they're gonna buy an older one?

The PS4 is up by almost 30% YoY so yes it is actually selling significantly more units thus far this year than the year prior. It is quite literally doing the opposite of declining. Compare this to the other two consoles that are both in double digit declines YoY. Clearly the impending release of a more powerful platform has not impacted PS4 sales in any meaningful way.

Again, I didn't say THIS would tank sales. Just stop posting if you're not gonna read.

Hello guys, been lurking here for a while and finally got my account approved.
For my first post I'll just say it was beyond obvious Sony never intended to reveal the Neo at E3.
You reveal this kind of stuff closer to release date, just like they did with the PS3 slim.
Im assuming a late August/early September announcement and a late October/early November release.
Congrats on joining Gaf! Also, I agree with you. Thinking they'll unveil it at gamescom or pgw. Whichever they're doing this year.

What if MS announce at E3 and say available today?

Wow at all these junior members with less than one month and 100 posts on their accounts popping up and spouting absolute nonsense all over GAF. E3 is a helluva time.

Those are great numbers, my original point was that waiting doesn't make a ton of business sense for Sony. Also *most* gamers are unaware of impending new console, perhaps this press release will change that.

There should be more tampons in gaming
I don't see the point in the Neo and I think it'll be a blunder and blemish on Sony's efforts so far this gen, similar to the unveiling and selling of the PSX in relation to the PS2.

Well... time to cancel my PSVR preorder and wait for Neo. Not settling for a "lesser" experience.

Or still get the VR and take advantage of the gap to save money? VR is going to work on NEO. I don't know why it's being reported like "this is for the extra power required by VR." Sony isn't going to sell it for PS4s if it's half baked.

What a mess.

Oh give me a break. The average consumer has no idea what neo is. If they were to an unveil at the biggest trade show of the year than more people would know. It STILL wouldn't be universally known, but knowing a price and date would definitely sway people on the fence.

Unless of course xbox shows scorpio at e3 in which PS4 sales will tank

You did say MS announcing scorpio would tank sales, people called it out for BS because it is. People who want a PS4 are not going to stop buying one because of a potentially more powerful console coming a year later, especially WW where Xbox has little sway. This is what people are arguing.

I think they pulled the Neo out of e3 from all the backlash they got when the giantbomb article leaked.

Insider already pretty much stated it was never meant to be debuted at E3. It doesn't make sense to announce this thing 3-5 months in advance when you can continue to make sales in the interim

There's plenty left that the public doesn't know about, or if they are known, haven't seen yet. Not sure how that's not exciting for many.

Nah, it's exciting enough. Just stay away from the conference thread for your sanity. =)

Its not the fun base that made up things.

All the respectful news sites made hundreds of articles about the system, its specs and even Sony policy in game releases on the system and they didn’t made a comment for months.

And they didn’t comment so they could measure the reaction of their fun base in a possible upgradeable console (every few years) model going forward.

We even got from Yoshida a comment that he was not sure whether there will be a PS5.

Would you honestly suggest to one of your friends to buy a PS4 today?
You're assuming that Sony allowed the leaks to happen intentionally. This is a product they are still working on. It is not ready yet.

To answer your question, sure. PS4 has great games and Neo isn't necessary to play them.
