Lol, why are you distrustful? You think that didn't look like gameplay?

Sony said that the Uncharted 4 E3 2014 trailer was realtime and it wasn't.

I am going to trust Insomniac.

I just hope it isn't downgraded from this.

Oh yeah :D

Who is a lesser-known character that can deliver bombast, push Parker to his limits, and through the villain, we can get a good glimpse of Parker and what makes him tick? Also should be a villain with a good amount of pathos or charisma.

Let's assume they won't use a villain already used in film right away (unless they're going for a Sinister Six setup). Film villains so far:

Green Goblin
Hobgoblin
Venom
Doc Ock
Lizard
Electro
Sandman

Chameleon was mentioned above, and I think it's a good choice. I'd add Kraven (and family) to the mix: Last Hunt, The Gauntlet and Grim Hunt were intense.

Chance, Life Foundation, Jonas Harrow, the Smythes (they used the spider-slayers in the first TASM game though, right?), Jackal. I'd also like to see a villain reformed through the interactions with Spider-Man: Cardiac, Prowler maybe?

People doubt Insomniac? Hopefully that die down soon as they continue to add bookmarks to their binder. They are pretty honest when things are not representative of gameplay. The Wonderful World Ratchet and Clank commercial for example.

I think that's feasible, honestly. I know Insomniac isn't Sucker Punch, but Second Son looked really good and had great lighting to boot, so I think it shows the PS4 can handle similar environments. Also, even though Ratchet and Clank didn't span across an entire city, insomniac got that game looming pretty damn incredible. I think having only one console to develop should help the team achieve the graphical fidelity you see here. Well just have to wait and find out.

I don't get the incredulous reactions. There's nothing in that trailer that's unachievable on PS4, and street density/interior detail aside, the game evokes Second Son's graphics a ton. Those particle effects, motion blur, PBR, etc. look similarly impressive to a game from 2014.

We're just so accustomed to trailers that try so hard to be "cinematic" but utterly and embarrassingly fail that a nicely composited and storyboarded trailer with actual cinematic flair ends up looking like CG :p

It was a bad idea for Sony to reach out to Insomniac instead of their own 1st party studio. If this becomes a huge success and they decide to make a sequel, what's stopping Marvel to cut the middleman out (Sony) and just go straight to Insomniac to make the sequel multiplatform since Sony doesn't own the IP?

Sony taking Spider-Man back and disrupting their entire MCU plans? Who knows what kind of contract they worked out with that whole thing.

Maybe that was part of the deal? I mean, nothing's stopping Marvel from going multi regardless. And we don't even known if they intend on Insomniac making Spidey games forever (or if Insomniac even wants to).

Maybe all internal studio are super busy and no time to do it then? Or maybe IG is just the perfect fit.

Or they just buy Insomniac.

There are things like contracs where stuff like this is ruled out.

Something called a contract and considering Sony does own the rights to Spider-Man movies I'm sure that kind of an attempt at betrayal would be great for future business dealings. Sony and Disney are pretty tight if you haven't noticed so this would never happen. I think it is more likely that Sony would right of refusal on any future Marvel games.

jstevenson do you know if the music in the trailer is from the game?

I watched this trailer on repeat just to see Spidey flip over the guy and webslam him into the ground, looked fuckin gnarly like he busted his shit in.

I think stuff like that is independent from one another. Sony sold to Disney the TV rights to Spidey waaaaay before the MCU deal, thus cancelling the best Spider-Man adaptation anyone has ever seen :(

But as the other guy was told, they probably got legal protection if such case ever happens.

Ratchet and Clank is one of my favorite games of the year so far so I trust Insomniac to deliver. I just hope we get to play Spider-Man first half of next year at least. Don't think I could handle having to wait over a year. It was my personal game of E3.

Been a while since I'd seen Fragile Eagle out there in public.

Interesting to see 2 of the 1up crew leading major projects like this.

Except we don't know the terms of the contract between Sony & Marvel (I'd imagine typically these things get inked for a trilogy, or at least to allow Sony first refusal on publishing a sequel or two) and Marvel/Disney no longer have a publishing division. And, if they've moved to a 100% licensing model for Star Wars, might we not assume it's the same deal with Marvel? They'll still have producers from Marvel involved, but likely that all the funding and promotion comes from the publisher side.

Insanely hyped for this, but I *kinda* doubt it will actually look that good. Its one of those 'too good to be true' cases.

So happy to see Insomniac announce a new game after finishing Ratchet. That game was amazing. Now I need Song of the Deep to hold me over.

Really curious to know which engine is running on: UE4 or proprietary?
Plus i imagine that by being exclusive for PS4, they can get some sort of support or consultation from other 1st party devs (ND, ICE Team).

I would love to play Sunset Overdrive, too bad it's for X1 only.

Maybe i will buy the new Ratchet instead.

This is going to be the spyro/crash of future generations. At some point spiderman will leave sony behind and go multiplat since they don't own it.

Also any multiplayer confirmations?

I imagine it's the same engine as Sunset Overdrive, which I'd always assumed was in-house. Presumably the same they've been using since the PS2 days...?

this is how Infamous Second Son looks on actual PS4 with DOF effect applied (and yes, I know – different dev, different engine, but still):

So I'm pretty much sure Insomniac can surpass ^ this in Spider-Man.

Sunset Overdrive is fantastic. First Xbox One exclusive I played and I still think it's the best I've experienced despite being a Halo fan and actually enjoying both campaign and mp in H5

Haven't played Ori yet :(

Never cared for this particular superhero but if Insomniac can pull a Rocksteady Batman treatment on it I'm all in. Trailer is fucking amazeballs.

I just need to know whether we'll have actual Spider-Man 2 webswinging or the boring cloudswinging of Amazing Spider-Man.

I'll reference a post I made earlier on this aspect:

Triggerhappytel said:
For those wondering about the web-swinging, you can see in this gif that his web is angled left towards the buildings, suggesting that it's probably physically attached to something. I think Insomniac are going to nail this aspect, as they must know it's one of the things people love most about Spidey games.
