WAIT

this game already has a detailed ESRB rating!? That must mean its really close to completion. Next year for sure, maybe even early next year.
That's what I'm thinking. I expect they wait until psX show us a new epic boss then give a release date of March-may hopefully.

Can't put the date in case of a delay ;)

I just noticed one of the toys the boy is playing with at the very beginning of the reveal looks like the Troll they fight later on, tusks and all but I can't tell what the other doll is supposed to be. Any ideas?.

At first I thougt it looked like Odin, but since the kid says your dull hammer doesn't scare me I'm pretty confident it's a Thor doll.

If this is a March-May 2017 then I'll need a Neo bundle stat!
There is no way this game launches withing 9 months of an E3 at which they revealed no date for it. They got a freaking orchestra for it, this their holiday heavy-hitter.

I can't get over how good this game is shaping up to be. I was hoping on a new IP from SSM, since God of War was really stagnating as a franchise by the time Ascension released. But the reveal was literally, literally, all I wanted from a new God of War; beautiful and seemingly thoughtfully mature story, great dialogue, VA-work and "cinematics" judging from that trailer, Kratos has finally a personality and character, amazing visuals, reinvented gameplay mechanics, crafting and semi-open world, and the soundtrack. Jesus, the soundtrack gave me chills. Stunning work by McCreary. I'm the most excited I've ever been for a GoW, absolutely incredible what they've achieved with that reveal.

Also, a bit off-topiv; but Sony first party is really killing in in the soundtrack department, I'm hoping it wasn't just the orchestra that did it, but The Last guardian and in particular, Days Gone, had stunning scores.
Well it's Santa Monica Studio. They are awesome. Love their games since the beginning. So I knew the reveal of their next game will blow us away. Kratos is ony of Sony's most beloved characters. I can't wait to see more of him in the near future. Finally, he's back (man, I'm still hyped. The conference blew me away.)

Cory said it would be coming "soon" in an interview. I can't imagine that meaning 18 months out.

It is not unheard of to release games shortly after reveal. Look at Fallout 4. Game is coming Q1 2017. I'm almost certain.

This is Sony. No way. Holiday 2017 at the earliest.

Anyone else keep remembering the scene where the troll roars out something about Valhalla to the boy? One of the E3 moments that keeps coming back to me, I think max videogame testosterone was reached.

I think it's time for me to get a PS4.

Extremely interested in why the Troll said "wait!" after Kratos said to take the shot

I had a feeling that all the games they showed were quite a way into development.
Three years into God of War apparently so it's well on its way but it's pretty normal to have two E3 showings for the bigger AAA titles (if you agree with that it's another matter, Fallout 4 announce/release pattern is sadly the exception).

I think it was to confuse the boy, who understood both Ancient Norse and English. Either the surprise of him suddenly speaking English was meant to confuse him, or he was simply confused and hesitant because it was speaking and almost begging for its life in a way, I guess.

The IGN video is the one that finally put me at ease on the massive change to the series.

Confirmed from Cory

-Kid will never be in the way of combat
-Not fully open world but much more open design
-Massive scale
-Huge bosses and the troll is just a typical enemy
-Tons of different environments

Also all the Gods of the different mythologies exist at the same time, so Norse and Egyptian already existed when Kratos was going on a rampage in Greece.
The troll is just a typical enemy? Goddamn, son.

Huh. Interesting bit about the gods. I'm assuming then that the Norse gods (and possibly the others) knew Kratos for his deeds. Some of them, at least.

Crap. Sort of accidentally double posted. Sorry.

Its probably the equivalent to the Cyclops in the older GoW games.

Cory Barlog mentioned in one of the interviews at E3 that its hard for Kratos to be a father because he was raised in the Spartan Agoge, the most brutal military training the world has ever seen..so Kratos never really had a family or father?

I finally could watch the trailer on a bigger screen and one can how Kratos tricep flexes when he takes the bow over his shoulders. looks quite unnecessary but looks cool.

I had assumed this would be the big '17 holiday title. If this comes in Spring or something instead, I wonder what the year end games will be?

He had a brother and a mother.

he had daughter, maybe having a boy is different I guess.

I had to say, it's kinda refreshing to see video game dad that are actually super strict and scary like Kratos. seems like the father figure I see in games recently are more the protective and gentle type toward their kids.

A release in Q1 would be weird, since you would have Horizon and God of War competing against each other. Personally I would see Q2 as an ideal period, especially with the success UC4 and TLOU have had there.

One thing I don't understand

Cory mentioned that Kratos views being a God as a "disease" and that he is afraid he passed it down to his son

but is Kratos still a god?...wasn't he only really a god between GOW 1 and 2 and then lost his power at the beginning of GOW 2..

That demo in general was amazing, but for me the emotionaö climax at the end with the dear, the boys llok at apporoval missed and Kratos reaching out to the shoulder of the boy just to stop and going for the knive.

It is such a high emotional scene and showing the conflicting behaviors and the missed opportunities to bond deeper but still bond.

If this making sense.

but dont you guys think Kratos seems kind of strict

i mean despite being a jerk in the beginning it seemed like Joel cared more about Ellie than Kratos does with his son..and Ellie wasn't even Joel's daughter

Would not be the least bit surprised if the runes on the axe represent different upgrades purchased for that weapon.

Could be. There are even 3 remaining slots under the Frost-gem/rune he put in his axe. Also, the way the ice is following the lines but not completely, seems to point out that his axe was not fully upgraded.

And suddenly, I don't care for the speculations that
Kratos is Odin & the kid is Thor.
I wanna beat the crap out of Thor & take Mjölnir. But now that I think about it, this new reformed Kratos wouldn't pick a fight with the Norse hero, would he?

Based on the interviews with Cory Barlog, the game's events seems to be set before the Gods became the deities of the Norse mythology. As he (Cory) said that the game events occur during a time where people believed that the gods abandoned them while they (the gods) were walking/roaming among them.

some dads are just like that in real life. I think it's rather refreshing to see a dad character that are actually strict to their kid.

if this truly is a early Norse mythology before the time the norse gods became deities and a time where they were "walking among us"

then i can really see this Kratos becoming Odin and his son is Thor theory.....acutally play out

he didn't said that, he said that in viking era, the vikings believe Gods abandoned them, there no Gods walking among viking at that era.

the story of new GoW takes place before the Viking era where the Gods walk on earth/midgard.

I guess they haven't lived in Asgard yet or something.

What?

Where?

A member pointed I that out in the other thread. In the final scene with dragon/wyvern, If you look closely in between the trees, just above the animal Kratos killed, you can see a -what looks like a scaly snowfield- slowly moving towards the left side of the screen.

Bit Kratos is damaged goods and how Christopher Judge put it: How to bea father, when you never have been fathered.

Take he is a trained soldier for a lifetime, lost his family, killed his god father and brought down a god empire with a real problem with his temper.

It is more out of a believe, I think, that his son need this lessons to survive. At the same time his behavior is a shield to not getting to close. There are cracks in this shield at the end of the demo, but just for a moment.

so essentially despite living in Scandinavia now

Kratos simply cannot let go of his Spartan past?
