This shit is not acceptable for $4 million of crowd funding with countless delays. It's a 2.5D sidescroller. The second you give it any sympathy towards a product that was borderline bait and switch, you only encourage mediocre products. The point of this Kickstarter was to show fans' love for a dying franchise with a spiritual successor, yet it failed to even come close to the standards of good game design, especially from such stars.

Not only has Keiji Inafune damaged his own name, but he is bringing down Kickstarter and its integrity for other developers. OUYA was also a huge waste, and I'm suspicious of how Shenmue 3 is going to turn out.

So you're right, it's not a bad game. It's a product that will plague an entire website, legacy, and fans.

That aside, the game itself isn't bad / doesn't warrant the scores. It's average.

Just finished the opening stage on XB1. Didn't run into any problems. Did not see how to access the DLC though. Maybe you have to beat the game first to get access to them. Beating the opening stage gives you access to leaderboards and EX mode.

So...is this happening? Because I specifically backed this wanting a physical copy. I got my code today, but that's not what I wanted. Looking more and more like I'm screwed?

It is bad. It's reasonable to expect something much more than this for that budget. They should be ashamed when looking at KS made by teams of 1, 2, or 3 people making games with 1/20 the budget that look ten times better

your game looks 100x better matt I couldnt imagine the the project you could pull off with 4 million dollars.

The problem is that it's that same sentiment that got them into this mess in the first place. Inafune couldn't think small, he had to go big for reason. This game feels like it wants to be something more other than a simple Mega Man clone with it's voice acting and cutscenes.

If thinking smaller meant he could deliver a game that looked on the level of games made by two man teams for a tiny fraction of the budget then he should have done that and everyone would have been happy.

Again those smaller teams are not really at 1/20 the budget they just aren't paying themselves properly which Comcept can't do. Also most of those games focus on 1 to 2 platforms. At least keep things in perspective. This isn't a great game but it's not some giant con just a disappointing result.

Maybe don't focus on every platform at once then if you can't do it while also deliverying a decent game that can at least compare to games made by 2 man teams that raised 1/30th the funds?

Hollow Knight is made by three people, raised $50k on KS, and is infinitely more interesting and higher quality in its visual production at every turn. It comes from a creative spark. MN09 does not.

Having only played the demo, I didn't find it to be bad, just soulless, bland, etc. Level design was (imo) fine, the game is just ugly and the music is horrible (which to me is a worse offense than bad graphics). Though if you pit it in comparison with other kickstarter platform games, like say, Shovel Knight, then yes, it is quite bad (again, I can only speak about the demo levels).

What's this even mean? Bland and soulless ARE bad. This is the spiritual successor to Mega Man by the supposed legendary designer Inafune. Should we expect someting soulless, uninspired, and bland? Soulless and bland are among the worst things that can happen to a game. Of course it's bad.

The game doesn't come from any artistic spark. If anyone who cared about it was calling the shots it would look nothing like the way it does.

your game looks 100x better matt I couldnt imagine the the project you could pull off with 4 million dollars.

thank you =)

What I'd do is hire a real programmer(s) to do the heavy lifting and maybe hire an animator to heelp me tween and I'd focus on concept art and direction

For the people who didn't receive the proper codes (be that double DLC codes or for the wrong platform), did anyone sent the MN9 support an e-mail about it and got a response?

Ended up picking up the PS4 version, was going to buy PC but the cross buy means my son can play it on his PS3 as well.

It feels crappy holding this in my hand when I know backers still haven't received their copies...

It's what we all wanted since this Kickstarter was announced. We didn't want voice acting, online, cartoons, franchises, etc. We wanted a tightly focused Mega Man like game. This game is a clear cut example of mismanaging budgets.

You can tell from the OT that this thread is about principles and symbols more than it is about the game anyway.

Didn't get a response but I got the proper code when I checked again.

Watching this stream https://www.twitch.tv/qttsix

The one level he played I was like "This doesn't seem that bad" but man a lot of those character models are fugly. Dash mechanic seems like it'd get annoying real fast.

I tuned in to a boss battle that's basically Yellow Devil with platforms that doesn't really make it look that bad. Guy is having a ridiculous amount of trouble with it though.

I'm gonna have to play through it first, but my gut is telling me whether or not this works is going to depend on the level design.

Not only that, but you also get the full digital PS4 version inside. Probably another fuck up!

Yeah I suppose you're right on that.

Speaking of, whats the deal with the PSN codes not working correctly again? Still waiting for PSN store update or something? Because both my codes arent working atm.

So...is this happening? Because I specifically backed this wanting a physical copy. I got my code today, but that's not what I wanted. Looking more and more like I'm screwed?

That wasnt for a physical copy of the game, it was for a physical copy of the manual and more or less a display retro style box.

I've beaten 3 bosses and right now I still stand by in saying it's a sub-par Mega Man game. The dash mechanic is interesting and the incentive to dash through enemies to keep your power ups going is pretty cool but it makes the special powers useless imo. I have not once felt the need to use any of them. The writing is bad. I want to murder Dr. Sanda. He has some pretty cringey lines. The level designs so far are not great but they are so short that you don't have to suffer through them for long.

The Capitol Building is the worst level I have ever played this year.

NVM, let me see if a friend I know wants it first

gave it to my friend.

Note to self; be smarter about kickstarting games.

FYI, the humble page for my Mighty 9 had been updated and the Ray DLC for Steam has a new code that worked.

edit: It doesn't show up in the DLC list on my library, but it shows up in my licenses, so I guess it worked.

Is there a provision on Kick starter stating that games have to turned out to be above average? People back the game at their own will. Whether the game will turn out good or bad is another story

So even though the shop has updated, and the blog lists it as being uploaded to the store, I won't be able to use my code because the game isn't released until Friday? That sucks :(

well, the ps blog update says the eu release is friday. so it wont be up in the store before then.

I guess I'll play it later and see for myself, but my feeling is that the majority of sentiment (mine included) is irreparably tied to this game's mismanagement and technical problems. This game will never get a fair shake.

Watching other people play it makes it look like a kinda lightweight Mega Man game, and yeah I expect the make or break will be the level design. A lot of what's happening in the snippets I'm catching on streams doesn't look different enough to make the scores seem sensible otherwise.

So obviously I'll judge for myself, but I'm not sure which would be a more awkward truth, that the game actually deserved better scores, or that people have been overly generous to Mega Man games for years.

I wish I could give this game a fair chance but after all this shit, especially the whole Red Ash fiasco I just cannot look at this game without being immensely frustrated and upset. At least I sold off my code to someone who may actually enjoy it, I think that ship has sailed for me already

The "better than nothing" quote, in itself, better than nothing. At least we didn't get Randy Pitchford'ed and repeatedly told that the game was actually amazing, no mistakes were made, and that we're all assholes for thinking otherwise.

It's definitely not so much the latter. Go back and play MM2/3 or early MMX games. Even once you set nostalgia behind, the whole reason you developed nostalgia in the first place was whip-smart, interesting level design with some interactions with powers gained from various bosses.

MN9's level design isn't as strong as that, and the muddled visual design (compared, to, say, MM2's constantly-on-point design) only compounds the issues.
