Kojima teases new Death Stranding trailer for later today

Kojima just got let go in December last year. This game was no doubt still in preproduction by the time Sony approached them. So honestly none of this is surprising to me.

This game is never coming out. Why are they wasting time on things like this?

It's not even a year since MGSV went gold. Sure it's going to take upwards of 3/4 years to come out but I doubt it'll become vaporware considering that Kojima's entire career is riding on it.

MGS 5 only went gold because Konami told Kojima it was done and rushed it out the door. 7 years after mgs4. If Kojima releases a game in 3-4 years it won't be AAA.

To be fair, Peace walker released in 2010, so i would say the game was in full development for 5 years, not 7

What constitutes "AAA"? If Death Stranding comes out and is a 10-15 hour linear action game like the first 4 Metal Gear games were would you consider it less than "AAA" because it's not the 50+ hour behemoth that was MGSV?

I seriously doubt Sony agreed to take Kojima on for a PS4 (and PC) exclusive without saying that he should probably finish it before the PS5 is out. That and they probably don't even have the funds for a 5-6 year project.

EDIT: And yeah, Kojima also worked on Peace Walker and his team single-handedly created an entirely new engine. DS is likely going to use someone else's engine instead which will significantly shorten dev time.

Five years after PW. MGSV took so much time because they were building a multiplatform engine from scratch. As a result MGSV took the longest to release. MGS2 was three years after MGS, MGS3 was three years after MGS2, MGS4 was four years after MGS3, and PW was two years after MGS4. The point of them selecting an existing engine is so that they can drastically cut back on dev time.

Unfortunately, Hideo Kojima is his own, biggest fan. What's next, hyping-up the chair he sits in at his office?? Honestly I could care less about death stranding or Kojima anymore and and this is coming from one of his biggest fans.

The way MGSV was handled was a total debacle - the fact that he would release an unfinished product, leaving Konami under whatever circumstances or not; is a slap in the face to anyone having followed him and his work since the early 1980s.

What exactly could he do given that he was fired?

Sonys PS4 profits have to go somewhere. Giving them to Kojima seems like the right idea.
Lol they're not spending a large chunk of their profits on solely funding Kojima's game.

I don't think he had a choice in the matter when it came to getting it done.

I think a logo vid is perfectly fine to spend time on, as part of developing a brand and image. Likely motivating for the people in the company too.

Frankly serves the people right if they assume this will be something rushed out or are in such a state of "hype" culture that they can't handle a wait. I thoroughly expect the game to come out several years from now, probably on some later PS console as the game balloons beyond what they expect.

I'm probably used to it since I don't particularly mind waiting for games and avoid hype most of the time. That, and waiting for the typically later PC versions for some games, such as this.

Bolded makes no sense.

1. If you really don't care anymore, you wouldn't have posted in this thread.
2. You can't be a "big fan" of someone and not care about them.

I think you're just tsundere.

Kojima's down fall is that he announces games way to early and shows to many things off. Show something off when you're close to being done, take notes from Bathesda

I feel like Kojima has too big of a head about his stuff. I feel like Kojima is one of those cases where when someone acts like they are a profound genius, some people start believing it and then a circle of followers are created.

like trump ;)

What exactly could he do given that he was fired?

We don't know that he was fired - he may have quit for all we know. To save face with himself, his ego, his reputation and his fans; he could have passed it off to another internal team that was competent enough to finish the final chapter of his last Metal Gear game?

That's all I wanted.

I don't think he had a choice in the matter when it came to getting it done.

If that's the case and it's proven so, then I rescind my statement; otherwise I stick to my assessment that it was a tremendous slap in the face and a monumentally disrespectful act to leave a game that much anticipated by decade-long fans unfinished.

He really is. That ridiculous WWE style entrance at E3 was cringe worthy as fuck.

Thank you and it really was!

No I'm the opposite of tsundere - I'm someone that admired him greatly at the start of his career, with that admiration gradually decreasing over the years due to his swelling ego and head and now can see that everything he does is formulaic and needlessly metaphoric and he doesn't even understand that he's playing himself out.

I fail to see what the problem is with this.

He's trying to reestablish his studio's brand, and that means playing the publicity and merchandising game at events like SDCC.

The man got freed from almost-literal game dev prison at Konami. It's not like the game is in crunch and he needs to be chained to his desk or anything, shit.

Wtf are all this nonesense people are spouting here?! Don't you know PW came out in 2010, and they built an entire engine suited to their games, from the ground up
How can you actually think V was in development for 7 years? Seems you also forgot GZ aswell

I think people are forgetting that Konami didn't just lose Kojima when it comes to great talent, they lost other people before him as well. Speaks highly of them when it comes to developers, to be honest.

Seriously? Dude, Ground Zeroes was just a mission ripped from The Phantom Pain (was the mission after you rescued Miller, turned into s flashback cutscene in the final game) earlier in development and thrown out there at a premium price because Konami wanted some early return on the games long development and large budget. The only extra work that really went into it was the side ops.

You're right to bring up PW and the Fox Engine, but don't try and pass GZ off as something it isn't.

It still took time to develop and delayed the eventual release of TPP, it wasn't just thrown out there like you say. There are a lot of stuff there and it certainly isn't just a mission ripped from TPP with no substance at all. Cutscenes and many different small events in the game plus the side ops took time to develop, and that time is still important. And we can't know for sure if Konami forced Kojima to release it or he chose to release it himself to give the fans something, like he said.

I feel like Kojima has nothing on his hands now, but he wants to create something so he can sell merchandising around it.

The guy is a genius no doubt, He created one of the most loved franchises (MGS) I love his work in MGS1-4, hated 5 with passion. I feel he is over-obsessed with movie industry and this obsession is ruining his gaming side. Also I feel like he solely takes all the credit in the games despite being one contributing member of the team..just like CR7.
