It did change though. I have not time to make comparison shots in Duscae and Platinum Demo at different times of day but yeah, it did change. It's not fully gobal illuminated anymore and they scrapped a few other lighting effects.

Here's great footage of the lighting in different times of day including weather change. It is pretty recent too:

Lighting is different from Duscae...but it still looks good and certainly not worse than in other open-world games.

Episode Duscae just had different weather and atmospheric effects that was locked to those settings at the time. You can still get the same atmosphere and bloomy look to the sky lighting as well as what we're seeing more recently going by their siggraph media.

Duscae's lighting could look pretty flat too around mid day. Their more recent screenshot of Duscae looks better imo.

I really don't think that is a console screen. ;) It is probably the best looking out of all the recent PC screenshots (they had PC UI). But yeah on PC it looks as good as Duscae or better, which still had full global illumination. I will always keep the demo alone for that reason. loved the lighting there.

Can everyone stop with the condescending posts until there's an official confirmation?

I mean, once it's known for sure, then you guys can be condescending I guess... but until then no one knows for sure.

FFS this feels like a religion vs. atheism debate except there'll be a definite answer soon.

I see nothing at all impossible in that particular screenshot for the PS4...

Duscae didn't have fully real-time GI. They disabled LPV's even before Duscae released. Regarding pc or console, this was also a PC screen they released back in march. They aren't out to trick anyone, especially going by that new World of Wonder trailer which I don't doubt was also captured on PC.

I honestly expected like 75gb considering all the animations of this game lol. But with patches I think it'll hit close to that number.

IIRC, from what people have told me over the years. That stuff doesn't take up much space. What takes up space is stuff like pre-rendered footage and audio files. To put it into perspective, FFXIII was 38 GB on PS3, with around 6 hours of pre-rendered footage (a little above 5 hours of it using in-engine assets, the rest Visual Works CGI).

Now, I'm also expecting a mandatory install on top of that, but I don't know about it being massive considering that it asks for 45 GB of space. Maybe like 10 GB? IDK

But considering that this game probably won't have more than 20 minutes of CGI cinematics I'd say it being 45 GB is pretty impressive even if there isn't an additional install on top of that.

I also don't think they want to trick anyone. They seem to be more than candid to us...
But geez...everytime I see screens like this I wonder why the hell they were making these public. XD
As I discussed on recent pages, I think the game will look fine on PS4 and Xbox One in the end. Not better than other open-world games but also not worse. People making such a huge problem out of that are imo crazy. Images like the one above do make me worry though... >__<

I see nothing at all impossible in that particular screenshot for the PS4...

The IQ is too clean and smooth. The anisotropic filtering seems way better than in Duscae or than in other confirmed console footage and I also doubt grass tufts on console will feature ambient occlusion.

it suffers badly from japanese flat world syndrome, textures are bad especially ground textures, trees look terrible and vegetation is generally sparse, lighting is quite flat in many cases and downgraded from showings a few years ago, the open world is purportedly gated into segments for performance reasons, monster models look pretty bad, animation is pretty iffy, there are visible clipping problems (this was every few seconds in the titan demo), the character designs are bad (especially cidney, but the squad look bad too). bounding/colision boxes on movement are weird in some footage, and camera and animation transitions into qte moments in the titan demo were jerky. all of this runs at a low dynamic resolution with visible aliasing, the user interface is crowded and ugly, and visual components of combat such as visual feedback on hits are poor. finally, both of the publicly released demos ran substantially under 30fps and had bad drops, as well as bad frame pacing.

honestly this is one of the ugliest high budget titles i've seen in a long time. i assume because they made it on white engine black engine crystal tools luminous engine luminous studio pro rather than using an off-the-shelf engine made by people who actually have experience developing and releasing games.

the particle and smoke effects, and some of the weather stuff looks pretty good though.

i get that i'm a negative nancy and a lot of people in these threads are very excited for the game and everything, but i'm not making stuff up out of thin air.

I agree with alot of stuff here, but couldn't disagree more about monsters models and animations parts.

animations are some of the best in the business especially for the fictional creatures.

It will be a real god damn shame if they don't release a PC version.

Hmm.

Apparently Game Zone reached out to "the same sources" and was met with firm denial about a delay.

How credible is Game Zone?

Where is our informative 4chan leaker!

Didn't he say it was all a Square Enix ploy to catch leakers? Or was that yet another leaker? I can't really follow that whole mess anymore...

#TeamUSdelay

I highly doubt this, but if this actually happens I'll cry really hard, then laugh, then cry again.

I'm already pretty bad with self control but once a game is out in Japan first my self-control towards spoilers pretty much goes completely out-the-window.

By the time I actually played FFXIII I knew all the events like the back of my hand. Same with FFXII I guess but there really isn't anything to spoil with that game because the plot is kind of ridiculously straightforward.

If it gets delayed far enough in the west only for some weird reason, i'd hope they have a PC version prepped. Outside of needing polish/tuning (which I could totally understand for a WW delay), I'm not too sure what else would hold them back considering they were aiming for a WW release. I know shit can go really wrong in localization really fast, but targeting a global launch would mean that certain pipelines would be in place to expedite and coordinate all that.

They could be aiming for worldwide release and falling short of it.

It's a big undertaking for them. And they've added more languages too.

Well yeah. I edited my post to include the fact that localization does get messed up/things go wrong.

Edit: I'm just curious as to what conditions could lead to something like that happening when they announced a release date in such a seemingly confident fashion. It would probably have to be something significant on the localization end of things.

If it is getting a delay... I don't think it'll be for the English version. It'll be for something like the French version or whatever other languages they're doing. They wouldn't hold back the English version for that, I think. They'd perhaps have the options available in a later patch.

Im pretty sure it's delayed. Not disbelieveing it or anything, but..

..if the off chance that it's actually false I wouldn't see SE acknowledging the rumor. Which would be torture lol.

Well on Monday Gamestop is said to put up the stickers so we should be able to get a solid confirmation. So my guess is Square has to say something between now and the times Gamestop usually open (10-11?).

Same with me. If the game is released two months earlier in Japan I give it a maximum of three days and I would be binge watching a Let's Play of it and ruin everything I waited 10 years for. x__X

Well, since only the US release might be delayed there is still hope the EU release won't. :)

Well, if the problem is localization why would they delay the game only in USA then? If they are able to release in EU they would also be able to release in USA.

By the way, the complaint about clipping and collision detection with Noct falling from a 10 story building into some steps is very weird. I don't think you guys are aware that clipping is still a huge issue in today's games. Even other the top game engines have trouble dealing with clipping and collision, you can even break through collision boxes in several AAA games like UC4.

XV actually goes an extra step in using procedural animations on animals and characters to actively avoid their body parts going through walls and objects.

The game has to be delayed for real. The proof is to stacked up and if it wasnt really id imagine they would put out a tweet to sqaush the rumors. They are probably waiting for monday to officially announce the new date along with a new trailer to attempt to soften the blow. Im still mad as all hell tbh.

I know, but two months when were already nearly a month away from the game finally coming out to me really stings. If this were anyother game, two months wouldnt be a huge deal.

If this game is not delayed in Japan I would have to avoid spoilers for 2 months. =(

That will be a feat, for sure. I want to go into this thing without anything ruining it for me. I won't look at reviews, I won't look at the gaming section until i'm a ways into the game.

(The problem then lies in how I'm gonna play the game. my ps4 died, so I need to either buy a new one, or wait for the Neo. I'll have to decide on the 7th :/)

Spoiler: The game sucks.

There, ruined. Now you can save your money!

Nice shitposting, duckroll.

I don't outright watch Let's Plays but I skim through... repeatedly... and ask questions on forums... and type in "____ ending" "_______ final boss" and look at it for a couple of seconds, until I eventually get more comfortable with the fact that I just ruined everything for myself and kind of half-way spoil everything.

If it ends up being delayed in only the West (which I doubt). I'll just import. I'm terrible with spoilers and would just look everything up on YouTube otherwise.

Dude, that is already self-harm. Don't do this to you. :(

Great to know FFXV is leading with procedural animations. Can't wait for the final product.

Yeah, to me Luminous has always been pretty impressive, maybe not performance wise with XV but it's pretty clearly a next gen engine with all the features it's packing, they just have to make do with PS4 and XB1 subpar specs now.

Some people are stuck on the impression that it sucks because ???. Maybe they relate it to FFXV's "10 years" development time (actually 4, including Luminous development on the side) or Crystal Tools being bad. Or just don't believe that Japanese can program a good, modern engine.

To be completely fair, it seems like its an ass to develop for. And many other major projects from Square are now using UE4 rather than Luminous studio.
