i'm assuming sarcasm but on the chance you werent being sarcastic, a huge majority of the thread became a huge shitpost circle jerk (with some minor people actually making good arguements) about cidney to the point that falk and kagari intervened

Episode Duscae was amazing. It's a shame it was attacked. Looking back on it... the Dawn trailer from long ago was super hype too.

I'm 22!!!! I'm not old!!!! ;_;

I've just recently been playing FF VI and VII for the first time so to me Cindy is just the worst thing ever. Not saying Final Fantasy has ever been the pinnacle of progressive ideals but Jesus... Ridiculous design.

You mean awesome design

I don't get it. A lot of people are saying that this game looks bad, yet the screenshots looks fine to me. In fact, I honestly think that this game looks even better than it was before. Is there something wrong with my eyes, or something?

You thinking it looks good is ok because it subjective but it looks worse than first demo (Duscae)... that is objective.

Nothing wrong with that. It does look good indeed.

How is it worse than the demo? No, seriously. I think I need a side-by-side comparison, because I seriously don't understand which part is worse.

It feels like we're more critical of graphics on console games than we were in past generations, especially starting the PS3/X360 gen.

I just want a game that's enjoyable and looks nice at the same time. I'm not asking for/expecting PC graphics. I don't care TOO much about it. I guess I'm in the minority.

Some people look at 2-D trees and see 3-D trees. Some people look at jaggies and see AA. And some people look at shadows that are clusters of black dots and see shadows.

I don't know what you want to hear. The character models are detailed - the world is an eyesore. At least, the console versions are, they've released some bullshots from their dev environment that are pretty stunning.

Can't say I agree. Unless I'm remembering incorrectly, the Dawn trailer is just the one where the King holds Noctis while he sleeps and he pushes him away? Didn't like that one at all.
I played Duscae day one and then with the 2.0 patch. I had some issues with the combat and the traversal was awful. Noctis was really slow and he stopped running after a while for no reason, there were large invisible walls near lakes making traveling through the map kind of annoying, and none of the bosses feel beatable.
2.0 added another unbeatable boss but you couldn't even pull off a summon so I'm not sure why they even included it in. The new team attacks were cool, though.
Kind of feel FFXV would be in a better spot if they allowed more people to give feedback on it outside of FF fans that would've bought XV no matter what (you needed to pay $60 to play it). There's things they added that also feel half assed like a dodge roll that doesn't work but maybe they could've done more.
Platinum demo is a bizarre choice for a public release, though. The game isn't as whimsical as the KH inspired music and big world setting would lead one to believe and I'm pretty sure that they're just tech demo areas that were polished up. The arena with the Iron golem is probably designed around the combat and it's been viewable since Versus 13. The combat as kid Noctis is also pretty dreadful, only getting better when you become Teenage Noctis and even then it's not very interesting without team members nor more advanced weapons. You could find better weapons and I managed to take down the higher level Iron Golem in a minute using them and while it looks cool...it feels like it's playing itself which is unfortunate.

I never noticed the jagginess of the trees, but that's probably because I never pay that much attention to the backgrounds in games unless I'm actually playing them by myself.

Still not sure if the "eyesore" accusation is warranted, though. Sure, the graphics are less than perfect, but I still don't see anything that would turn me off that badly.

Canceled my pre-order. Not really liking what I read in the impressions. So I'm definitely waiting for reviews before I purchase now.

The removed objects and put 2D trees in places, the AA is non-existent anymore, shadows where removed, the lighting is inferior, the dynamic resolution looks to going lower than what it wan when fixed, LOD is more abused now, etc.

It is pretty clear they downgraded the IQ to reach performance target.

Like I said you can think it looks good and it is fine but the IQ is worst than Duscae's demo.

Curious question, were you onboard beforehand? Or are you the type person who waits for positive reviews to buy a game?

* hope that doesn't come across as snarky or rude which is not my intent XD

I ask because I've noticed a lot of gaffers lately saying in different threads " waiting for reviewers" or "impressions from other members" it's gets me wondering if a bunch of folks get swept because of the word of the mouth on the next big game or hype despite not being their type of game or otherwise interested in. Generally curious.

Well, seems highly likely this will be the second FF I skip in a row...Though I did borrow my brother's copy of 13 and ended up stopping after a few hours.

So sad. 12 was probably the best game I played since 7(9 was great as well) but the franchise seems to be slowly crashing.

Question here: what is IQ and how does it affect performance?

We're talking about resolution and aliasing (jaggies). It goes back and forth between 900p and 1080p so it gives it a blurry look, and its very jaggy.

If the game were full 1080p with a good anti-aliasing solution it would look great imo.

I respect your opinion, James Scott. I'll try to keep it short: ED is incredibly fun and addicting once you grasp the way you wanna fight. PD is a symbol of how stuff from long ago is in the game... Kid Noct wasn't that bad...

IQ is a general terms and means Image Quality... a lot of things affect the IQ like resolution, AA, AF, textures, graphical effects, etc... you can think of the level of IQ like the preset you have in PC games: low, medium, high, very high... where low is the worst IQ and better performance while very high it is the stunning IQ with really demanding performance.

So if your game is running a game that can't hold 30fps with the actual IQ (like FFXV) then you remove effects, AA, etc and make the IQ lower to increase framerate.

To be fair I tried to be simple... it is more complex than that.

PS. If the delay was due performance issues then it is possible we will see a even lower IQ in the final game to reach these performance targets.

Given that a lot of this game mirrors several of FF12's systems, I was wondering why you want to skip it?

Cindy is disgusting as a concept. She's not even hot to look at, thus doesn't fulfill clear her purpose in the game in the first place. Hey SE, there's more to making banging ladies in video games than putting them in try hard outfits and having them say "yall" and "paw paw" 9 billion times in horrible overdone accents.

They obviously wanted the player to leer at Cindy via camera placement, but their intent failed cause i'm not leerin.

Don't like southern girls, huh?

Cidney is actually less offensive than Quiet, who was last year's barely clothed waifu.

Personally, like Quiet, I think she'd look really cool with more clothes on.

I liked Quiet, too. Or at least, I wanted to. She's actually a great comparison. Quiet herself, I have no issue with. I'd say the same for Cidney based on what I've seen. The issue is how both characters are treated in the games they're in, which mainly comes down to how they're animated and framed by the camera. Looking sexy is all fine and well, but when the game suggests it's the only thing about the character that really matters or is the primary focus, that's when things are gross.

This game is a little awkward but its by no means "crashing".

Its far more ambitious than the XIII sequels ever were.

I don't think she looks 14 at all. 16 I can see, but 14... eeh.

She animates like a braindead 14yo, sure, but just looking at her face and body, I think she looks older.

It's alright, there is nothing weird about a 14 year old girl having the hots for an older guy. This whole game is about a boy band right? Her character seems fitting.

The overreaction to Cidney's accent is weird to me. She probably has the most consistent delivery of her lines in the game. Cid is voiced really well too and his accent is the same, but I guess Cidney always gets the emphasis.

EDIT: She's actually Cindy since I'm referring to the English version. Bad habit lol.

Wait, I don't get it, what's going on?

Long ago before my account got approved on GAF... I remember seeing you on threads in GAF and I used to think, "Wow. Gbraga is pretty cool." That's why I bow my head in respect to you and certain other members on GAF.

It becomes warranted because as the poster you quoted said: there is a significant disparity between the assets for character models (for most part) and the rest of the world.

As games keep on achieving higher visual fidelity, the smallest of blemishes can become hugely distracting. In FFXV thus far, there are far too many notable areas that are let downs. For me the horrendous 2D blocky mess called trees as well abrupt character pop ins (let alone other pop is) ruin it. FFS, it's 2016 and those abominations called trees don't belong (at least they could've used higher resolution sprites).

As somebody who played the game for 4+ hours and found it great fun but had it crash on him repeatedly, AND had a boss twice break by turning invincible... trust me, there is polishing left to do, and that's the reason for the delay. It's genuine. This is an actually fully mad conspiracy theory.

Of course the game needs polishing, but it won't get it.
3 months in dev time is nothing, and it's not even 3 months if you consider a lot of finalization.
Also if you think that postponing a release to launch alongside new hardware which means guaranteed boost in game sales a mad conspiracy, well, that's on you.

And by any means I doubt there is any room for optimization which can be done right now, except lowering the IQ further.

EDIT: They can fix some bugs though.

EDIT2: Gamescom best RPG award? Versus what exactly?

I've harped on this before, but why does this game have quest markers, named quests and text telling you what to do plastered on the hud? it's like they took everything bad with modern western aaa games and married it with jpop. it's painful to see what an ugly monstrosity this has become.

Offline MMOs are all the rage in AAA Jrpgs these days.

FFS I went through this whole thread and had a bunch of multi-quotes ready to reply to then someone had to use my computer and I lost it all.

It was the PS4 version I played. That gamefaqs quote is hilarious. Thankyou very much for all the feedback!

You can turn them off though so I don't see what the issue is.

So far I'm actually fine with every voice in the game. It's the script that's awkward for me. Y'all in every sentence they say (do southerners even say y'all this often?), greasemonkey granddaughter, beat up old clunker...came off awkward to my ears. There were some lines that the party members say that were awkward to me as well. Feels like the translators were thinking that's how we spoke, instead of the translators knowing because they speak it too. I could be way off, but that's how it comes off to me.

I'll be playing in English, though. I want my focus to fully be on the cutscenes.
