NieR: Automata announced for PC, game shipping Early 2017 on both platforms

Square just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Japanese culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in America where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in Japan, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the japanese public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase NieR Automata for either system, nor will they purchase any of Square's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Square has alienated an entire market with this move.

Square, publicly apologize and cancel NieR Automata for PC or you can kiss your business goodbye.

You didn't even have to change that much for this one lol.

This game looks sick, and the original seemed fascinating to me. I listen to its soundtrack sometimes, there's nothing like it as far as I know.

I don't think Sony really cares. It's effectively exclusive in Japan, and a PC version won't eat much into PS4 sales very much. It's much better for these niche games since more overall sales = better chance for a sequel. Also, there are a lot of Japanese games coming out that aren't on PC still, or get really late ports. They're just not as high profile and harder to remember. There's still more PS4/Vita or PS4/PS3 crossover. Also some Vita/PC, which I don't understand versus Vita/PV/PS4.

If a game is only going to sell 100k units on both platforms, with a 70/30 split, then it's really not that beneficial for Sony to try to buy it's exclusivity. Not to mention the fact that sales aren't 1:1, so that game would maybe only sell 75k if PS4 only as there probably isn't as much overlap between the fanbases as it seems on GAF sometimes.

Also, older games likely have a much higher ceiling on Steam, like Sayonara Umihara Kawase. A few of those types have gotten PS4 ports, but most seem to be skipping it. I wouldn't personally be happy with owning only one or the other for Japanese coverage.

Pretty much this probably.

They didn't seem to mind with Street Fighter V either and they seemingly gave that game sizable support to enable Capcom to make it at all in a timely fashion based on Ono's comments. They still were okay with it being PS4/PC rather than pay even more for it as long as it got made and the sales didn't effect them too much.

Every time a PS4 'exclusive' game is announced for PC there is so much salt at GAF.

Just get used to it or buy a PC, because Ni-Oh, Ni no Kuni 2, Yakuza 0 and maybe Persona 5 will come next.

I'm actually surprised it took so long for this quote to be used, especially given the posts from a few pages back.

I remember opening this thread a few days back when it had like 200 posts. Was wondering "was there any PS4 salt in here?" and no there werent - first 4 pages were normal cheering and posting of gifs + specs talk.

Now it blew up to 1000 posts... and of course majority of this is Sony fans shit talking... ehh.

Never change Sony-GAF. Never change.

I'll never get this mentality, it's not like losing the exclusivity is hampering or devaluing your platform of choice. People should be happy for other gamers and the dev team: the more people get to play the game the better. It's beneficial for all involved. Success will lead to more and better games.

Let's be honest thought. It was 2-3 guys. It's not a lot of people and it's a behaviour you see from anyone, being Nintendo fans, MS fans, Sony fans or PC fans.

I love Ni no Kuni, I even have that cool wizards book from the Collector's edition. Hopefully that comes over too, seeing how it's Namco it might be possible plus they did that "First on PS4" shit but that could be referring to NX maybe.

Damn, I'll never get tired of seeing this.

Okay, I did it! I got another PS3 to play the original. I'm shopping around for a good price on the game, 17.99 is the best that I can find, used from GS(I'm in NA). I'm going to get a copy later today. I haven't played this game in years, anything I should look out for before I get started(without getting into spoilers)? Also, did the DLC get delisted? I'm looking at the game page on PSN and it's not showing up for me.

Edit: NVM, found the DLC, it's just not listed under the game page.

DLC is just a grinding area revisiting remixed areas with remixed music with young Nier pretty much you should be fine.

So them saying that they want you to play the DLC first before Automata shouldn't mean much?

I don't think they ever did that. They have been pretty adamant about the game not requiring you to have played the first Nier, which is the modus operandi for Yoko Taro storys.

Okay, you're right. I found where I saw that, and it was a misquote.

This is full price $60? Sheesh it doesn't look like it's a $60 game, gonna wait for a sale or something later.

I hope this is sarcasm. It's a full length Action RPG with quests, NPCs, towns, and bosses, and it's well over 25 hours (probably going to be around 40-50 for full completion, like Nier 1) and aesthetically it's pretty pleasing, so I'm not sure what makes you think it's not worth as much as, say, a 5-hour FPS campaign.

Nothing yet, although I'm pretty sure there will be one with the figurine they showed at their e3 stream.

Will probably end up buying the game 5 times, the physical CE that will probably be console exclusive, a pc version for myself and a few copys for a giveaway I already promised.

That's going to be one expansive month. 😢😢😢

Every time this thread is bumped I expect Rob's interview, only for the disappointment to ruin my day.

Today I woke and looked outside again, but the sky looked the same to me...
Something told me that this world had changed, couldn't figure out what did it mean.
