The King of Fighters XIV |OT| ¡VIVA REY DE DINOSAURIOS!

Please help, I can't stop listening to Team Art of Fighting's theme. It's so damn good.

And don't even get me started on Team Yagami's.

I haven't won a single match online. I feel like I need to completely relearn how to play fighting games. All past knowledge is worthless. I got HP->Command normal->Special down, but that is NOT enough.

Im sorry, I'm so fucking salty right now.

netcode in ranked is ass and it's almost impossible to match to connect in the first place. Anybody else having this issue?

If it makes you feel any better, I've only won one match out of five with one of them being an OCV. Thinking of going back to the Capcom layout to make the transition a little easier.

You just need to switch up priorities.

When I started playing SF5 online, my priorities were to get better and to win as much as possible.

In this game, my goals are to perfect my combos, execution and get better at the game. If I win, that's cool but it's not a priority for me and it makes playing online against others/against better players much more bearable.

I also suck at this game if that wasn't clear.

Just had a few matches in free match (don't care about ranked) and it works so well.

Can't believe they nailed the netcode, I mean I hoped for it and everything but I didn't think they would actually do it lol.

This game's really fun. I've always been super casual with KOF at the arcade, and hadn't played any on consoles.

Been playing with a buddy of mine, practicing Joe/Ruby Heart/Kukri. I need to hit the lab and watch some YouTube vids.

Don't feel bad. Winning online in this game is not easy. Not easy at all. Yeah, I kind of had to reinvent my strategies also. Seems like a lot of people use the rolling evasions quite often and when I started to implement them more into my movement and strategies, it seems to help out a little. The hardest thing for me is still deciding on a main team. I am trying to learn too many characters.

I feel weird. I stuck to my Leona / Maxima / Zarina team, and proceeded to get mostly OCV's in rank skip mode, lol. I even fought a "HARA-HARA-HAAA!" Mian a few times, but I just let her push me to the corner, rolled out for free between a stomp down, and mauled her in retribution, lol.

Save for her, and a few Kula's that obviously had her mega-damaging B&B (and using Kula's DM like a Power Geyser to any jumps I did), I didn't have many issues.

I felt like a bully, heh heh. I did love the Maxima VS Maxima I had in there, though. Zarina so strong, a good cartwheel turns into SO MUCH DAMAGE without fail.

Most fun I've had with Ranked Online in a fighter online since KI. It just feel great when you feel any matchup could have something new you haven't seen spammed to death.

I think I've seen the name LyteEdge in here. GGs. I was GiygasXLR. I basically played 3 different teams. Still rotating around to find out who is good. I mean, Love Heart would be a gorilla pick, since it's so damn easy to do damage with her, but I feel I should expand my picks and just try to nail down some max mode confirms with other characters to get used to it off lights. Though i guess it would be easier if I picked a character that can go into a command normal from a light but I don't know if I like those characters tbh.

On a side note, I want Duo Lon as dlc. I always liked him on point.

Fuck Nakaruru. Oh my god. Fuck Nakaruru.

Yea it does seem pretty difficult. I guess depending on distancing, which version, and if they want to press buttons after you can tag them after the slide but I swear sometimes she is plus after it and it can tag you if you try to neutral jump it. I need to hit the lab more.

Netcode has been working great so far. Only problem is that it froze when entering one match. The other guy didn't d/c because he was still on his mic talking, so it was the game acting up. But that was 1 problem out of many good matches today.

Same here

Free play is where its at, i honestly rarely had any bad matches lately. This game is really growing on me and its taking all my time i have spare for gaming

Well done to Snk, just wished this game had more buzz in the outer circle . Fighting game fans deserve to give it a thorough chance.

1 match.

I'm surprised nobody here is talking about the lack of a safe zone in this game's HUD placement. I guess everyone here is smart enough to disable overscan on their TV's and get that pixel perfect image you paid for on your TV then right?

I never play fighting games on my TV (too laggy), but on my PC monitor, is the problem present there ?

It's a native 1080p game, and my TV is a 720P one, so a few things are pushed off screen, yeah. I figured the PS4 would scale it down properly like it does for most everything else. I don't find it much of an issue, though I guess I could get it to fit or something. All the important stuff is there...

Maximillian dood is streaming KOF. his experience mirrors mine in that for every good game theres like 3 really laggy ones. its ok for now, but i hope they hire the company they had do Last Blade and is working on Garou to fix the netcode on this as well. MKX completely redid theirs and now its awesome from what i hear

Max's experience seems absolutely hellish.

That's a shame.

Is he playing ranked or the lobbies in free? I have only been playing in lobbies in short sets against people and it runs very well (3-4 bars), does it make a difference for him? I wouldn't be surprised if something might have been missed on their end since previously there was the bug with every mode except party and from the sounds of it Max has a pretty beastly setup.

Second match online ever, barely even remember my characters moves and I'm matched up against Max while he's streaming. Dammit, that was embarrassing.

Odd. I haven't been getting that many good matches tonight. Most have felt like way over 5 frames of delay (10 - 15 usually is what I've been feeling). Idk of it's just me or not, because earlier I was getting extremely playable matches. Oh well, I'll play some more tomorrow to see if anything changes

Okay how does max cancelling work? You're suppose to be able to go directly into an EX move right if you do the motion plus 3 buttons? It seems it never works for me, and I just get the damn rush. Is there something I'm missing?

Yup. There is no safe zone, a lot of HUD elements are on the edges of the screen. Luckily any semi-modern TV can have it's overscanning deactivated in the settings menu. And only HDTV's overscan by default. PC monitors don't.

That has nothing to do with overscanning. Overscan is some bullshit all TV's do out of the box by default. It's an artificial zoom in that cuts off the edges of the screen. You're missing out on 5 to 10 percent of the image. Also, it's reducing image quality and FOV. Sucks doesn't it? You need to set your TV to just scan/screen fit/picture fit/dot by dot or some shit like that in the TV's setting menu to get a screen fitted image. My samsung overscans on 16:9 mode. I have to set it to "screen fit" to get a pixel perfect image.

This is how the display area should look on a TV where overscan is deactivated and you're getting the properly sized image. Look at the player 1 and player 2 text on the top left and top right of the screen as a reference point.

This is how the display area looks on a TV that overscans by 5%. Pay attention to the edges, look at the player 1 and player 2 indicators on the top left and top right:

This is how the display area look on a TV that overscans by 10%. Pay attention to the edges, look at the player 1 and player 2 indicators on the top left and top right: Look at the top left, you can't even see the text: "free match, party vs"

The character's right fist is completely cut off and gone in the 10% overscan image. Most people are overscanning by 5% because that's what TV's default to out of the box when you first hook it up.

Most people's TV can correct for this - but a lot of older TV's not only force overscan with no way of turning it off, but they overscan by 10%, as if 5% wasn't enough... TV companies man, so fucking stupid. Anyways, side-track I know, but I wanted to clarify this just in case somebody is playing this game and they are like, WTF SNK can't even properly fit an image on my TV. No, they can - it's your TV that's fucking up, not SNK.

you can cancel normals into max mode which allows you to extend the Combo and do more normals. Usually it's way too tight a timing to be able to do a special move after activating max. So just do a normal xx max mode xx normal xx ex move.

I really wanna get into this game, I'm just not really familiar with team building in a fighting game. I love playing grapplers (like Potemkin from gg and Zangief from sf) but I've never played kof so I really don't know the cast. Are there characters that fit the grappler play style? If so, how would I build a team around it?

There are quite a few grapplers in the game - the heavier types are Daimon and King of Dinosaurs, and Clark, Vice and Ramon are more mobile takes on the concept.

A couple of good rules of thumb for team building in KoF are:

* the more comfortable you are with a character, the better it may be to place him last, as your last resort

* the more a character benefits from using full power bars, the better it is to leave that for the end, as the amount of bars you can fill grows as you lose characters, so it's often good to start with a character whose default options are fine.

All I got for the Vernal Equinox was this stupid tag
With the netcode actually good now, I went back to ranked and finally got out of the ranking skip status-- it put me at level 15 after 10 matches. Good start, I guess?

95% of the matches I played last night were good-to-great. Only one of them felt like it was pre-patch bad.

Played some insanely-skilled people in ranked so I am sticking with lobbies for now. One guy effortlessly hit me with a max mode K' combo that took off more than 50% of my health. It was glorious.

Only played one real idiot who attempted to troll me in a match. Picked the wrong guy to do that to-- counter-trolled him and won twice, which really pissed him off, lol.

I know you're talking about the HUD throughout, but if someone's TV can't correct, i think the game has options to reposition the fight screen meters/HUD at least.

Played about an hour before leaving for work today, so smooth. Played in US and JP rooms again with no issues, will try some other regions this weekened (which is long, and shall be glorious thanks to the patch).

The lobby system is so smart. Normally if there's two people playing then it's a no go in a room but in this game, unless they are playing a series, you can just cue up and take turns playing. So instead of looking for someone to join or creating a room I just got in cue while two people were already playing and we had a blast.

Her crouching fierce into double sword special ?
Such and easy confirm into super.

- There is a gap between the first and second slash, it's not a true block string.
- You can stick in an invincible reversal or a command grab (or something with guard point) after blocking the first slash and they will beat her clean. I was testing it with Ramon and he grabbed her easily with his command grab.
- If she is close enough you can even regular throw her in between the two slashes.
- You can also guard cancel roll to punish

Will try that. Didn't think I could do stuff in between and it also seemed far

Also really wanted Ramon to pick people up after his command throw
op but idc lol

Hopefully he streams it to offset the bad impression he gave.

Btw you guys that are losing, feel free to hit me up for some winnable matches if I'm online! My username is in the list in the OP.

We need to play! :3

Just don't DP or whatever if it's only the first slash or you'll be pretty sad.

The animations are the same but the single lp one gives a lot more pushback, which is the easiest way to tell the difference.

The EX one has a gap after the first slash as well, btw.
