Sony doesn't allow Fallout 4/Skyrim mods on PS4

Hmm yet farming simulator 2017 will have mod support on PS4 from what we know so far, what are you not telling us Bethesda.

With Farming Simulator 17, all the players will be able to download content created by the passionate community of Farming Simulator players, including vehicles, animals, scenery elements and much more, opening up the possibilities of an ever-evolving Farming Simulator 17 experience.

This is literally the only reason I've kept my PS4 copy. Time to trade it in for an XB1 copy.

In fact, think I might do that with all my third-party games from now on. Sony have completely burned up all my good will.

To anyone still planning to play Skyrim for the first time on PS4: don't.
Without mods Skyrim is a broken game through and through.

No they aren't to blame. Wtf

Sure, they absolutely share some of the blame. They knew about the issues and announced mod support anyways, most likely to put pressure on Sony.

It's not like the issue preventing it is new. They reaped the good will PR when announcing mid support for Skyrim Remastered as well.

is this Sony's way of saying fuck you to Bethesda's shitty handling of the PS3's version of Skyrim? Still haven't forgiven them for that.

What a stupid decision on their part.

Doesn't affect me personally, but I know a lot of people who were looking forward to this.

Man, I bought Xbox One on the day Fallout 4 released and that now seems like some sign I should've gone with that version. That sucks.

Iirc Sony wanted mods to use PlayStation specific file structures/file types which doesn't really work with mods made by the community.

Microsoft using the same file structure for the Xbox and the PC makes a ton more sense now. I'm sure there is a good way to get those mods into the PS4 file format, but it'll take more than just a simple conversion to get that code switched over. Bethesda's not going to pay for the conversion of mods and users aren't going to or aren't able to write mods for a completely separate file system.

About as amazing as the outrage in proportion to the actual issue. Also, a lot of posts here are from dedicated Xbox warriors, who should have no stake on either side of the argument.
Agreed, it's pretty telling.

Hmm that is very interesting. Seems like something is being left out.

No I'm not. It sucks this isn't happening but some posters need to step out of their emotional and opinionated bubble with no basis.

It's the same when people shit on MS and their policy regarding FF14. It sucks but outside of GAF or forum chatter no one truly cares.
Okay? Guess what? We are on an enthusiast forum so forgive people for conversing with other enthusiasts. I've seen you doing this regarding the UHD physical media issue with PS4 Pro too. Bringing everything back to how GAF is a bubble and others won't care. Let's assume you're right...how does t change the fact that it sucks and we are allowed to talk about it sucking here without needing to thinking about how little Johnny, who buys his system for Madden only, feels about it?

No one is saying Somy is doomed for any of these issues, but when your marketing tag line for the generation has been "4theplayers" and you have now made countless things that have gone against that, I believe a certain discussion can be had about that. Yes it's a marketing slogan and it's silly to compare everything to it but still.

Call a spade a spade without needing to remind us we are on an enthusiast platform. We know that or we wouldn't be posting here.

Between mod support and EA Access, I'm getting a bit sick and tired of Sony telling me what I should or should not be enjoying that the competition is enjoying.

Oh, didn't know. How many can you install at the same time? No problems with crashes, freezes with too many mods? No performance dips?
No issues I've experienced. It creates a separate save file and turns achievements off. It's a lot of fun to play around with. Lots of mods available also.

Does this mean Sony doesn't allow mod outright or Sony doesn't allow the mod at the level Bathesda wanted?

Oh fuck off Bethesda. Rolling my eyes at the spin they put in there. "After we put in considerable time".

Maybe you should have asked Sony first about the technicals before ASSuming it would just work? Only to throw Sony under the bus for your poor planning?

Before you ask, no I'm not a Polygon employee, but I still think the messaging, or lack there of, on Sony's part was incredibly bizarre and frankly somewhat embarrassing .. and I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks that way.

What messaging? It's a new model ps4. They announced that it will be out next week. What more messaging did you need for the slim? You think the fact that it was leaked, or that it was announced during a fairly boring press conference is going to matter to the millions of targeted consumers who will be picking one up this holiday? Do you think Johnny Q. Gamer is going to be sitting at WalMart staring at a ps4 Slim box thinking to himself "you know, I kind of want one of these, all my friends are playing on it, but Sony's messaging and announcement were frankly embarrassing, this entire thing was a debacle!"?

Fuck off Sony. I was looking forward to mods on PS4 for Fallout and Skyrim.

I'm not going to request a refund on Fallout though because I feel for Bethesda on this. Sony just lost them some sales on Skyrim and it looks like they did really try to implement the feature.

They didn't know about the issues for Fallout 4 mods on ps4 until after the game had already been released, and even then the issues were completely out of their control. They can still do it only if they're allowed to.

Announcing Skyrim remastered mods for ps4 while this was going on is kind of shady though I'll give you that.

FUCK YOU SONY WHERE'S MY NUDE MODS

This is no big deal.

There is a significant subset of gamers that love the shit out of Skyrim (in retrospect, I think the game is garbage, but that's neither here nor there). If those people go into the holidays planning to buy a current gen system to play this remaster, and MS capitalizes on the fact that XBox One is the only game console to offer full Skyrim Remastered mod support, that could be pretty significant IMO, especially since it leaves the impression that Sony is not on the "consoles mods" bandwagon going forward.

I'm a PC mods guy, but even I was interested in checking out mods in FO4 on the PS4 since I bought the PS4 version of the CE and have a copy of the game sitting here. Now that's not going to happen, and if I was going to buy Skyrim Remastered (I'm not, but lets just say), you can be sure it would be the XB1 version at this point.

Sony isn't allowing the method Bethesda is implementing, where it uses certain unapproved file formats for textures and audio.

If Bethesda had a way to convert the file formats to the ones that work with ps4's sdk it wouldn't be an issue.

Bethesda promised a feature they didn't even have actual support for?

Shit sucks but I don't blame Sony for being hesitant given Bethesda's track record... with pretty much everything. Don't care about this game in the slightest but I hope they iron out the issues.

Welp this fucking sucks.

I was looking forward to mods on FO4 (thank god for survival mode).

Was considering getting Skyrim, but I can't justify re-buying without mod support.

No Macho Man Mods on PS4.

Isn't the point of console gaming optimizing to fully use the hardware which by definition does not allow space for mods, or am I missing something?
Most mods don't mess with performance whatsoever.

They did.
