Bioshock Remaster 1/2 free upgrades now live on Steam.

Like I've said, BioShock 2 has 5.1 and even 7.1 audio, but something is very wrong with enemy sounds since sometimes they are simply silent.

Hrm. I pre-ordered the second game on PC but had stop playing it and get a 360 copy because of crashes and other issues. It was pretty much unplayable after a couple of hours. I also had a set of issues with the first game (that I had played on 360 but got free with my pre-order so I played it again on PC) and it seems those are not fixed. They are actually even worse? That's a real bummer.

I really don't care about the graphics, I only care about stability and playability. If I play with a pad, will these remasters work better than the original games?

Want to play BioShock 2 but can't handle the low FOV, it gives me nausea. Will go back to the old version with Flawless Widescreen I think!

Tried a bit of Bioshock 2. Can't say I really noticed anything particular in terms of improvements, but I'm sure it'd be clear if I saw comparisons.

The only game in the series I don't have is Infinite. Is it worth buying? I know it's not upgraded in any way on PC, but it's 75% off on Steam so kinda tempting.

Nah, thanks for the free remasters 2K, but I'll stick with the original versions cuz they look better to me, even with lower texture quality in some cases, whereas remasters look way too clean and flat even.

P.S. Can I do 4K in original versions btw?

You can do the resolution, you'll be lacking the 4k textures they included in the remasters though so no super sampling textures or textures created for native 4k.

I don't care. Dead Space looks great in 4K 60 (except crappy shadows (128x128 at times, yikes), dated lighting, lack of detail and # of objects on levels, SSAO, DOF, god rays etc. - I know, it's an early X360 game and I totally accept this) - I've played the game in 720p back when it was released so.... you know, it's a HUGE difference even with everything I've mentioned above.

Here's some screenshots I've made btw:

Art and level design rocks in DS games, just like in BioShock series.

Holy hyperbole, Batman.

No, no it's not. Not even close. I don't have any screen tearing issues at all, and turning on VSync added no additional input lag, so I can confirm those issues are not widespread. It's smooth and responsive on my rig and looks great in general besides some odd water clipping issues when you pass under waterfalls.

Pull yourselves together, seriously...

So can we conclude that because I didn't have any major issues with Arkham Knight on PC at launch, that game was pretty fine too and the issues weren't widespread?

Seriously though, Bioshock 1&2 had very specific technical issues that were talked publicly for years and they did seemingly nothing to fix them. I guess it was more important to get something new to show up in screenshots instead of making these the definitive versions of the game. A bit like Deus Ex Human Revolution Director's Cut which fixed the boss fights, and completely messed up the PC version by removing many of the PC specific fixes done to that game.

You do know that if you have the PC originals you can download the remasters for free and try them both out and compare them?

Yes, I do have original and remastered versions. What are you trying to say?

You can actually try them both at 4k and see in person if it actually is a downgrade.
Just looking at the no sound bugs, crashes and issues around changing resolution on the og version of bioshock on some people's systems and o/s indicates some people have some really rosy views of the original pc ports.

It is not necessary, really. I can tell by just looking at comparison screenshots here that I don't really like what they did and original looks better to me even with the lack of 4K textures etc. To me these remasters - original games with HD textures mod and lack of DX10 features.

You know, there's System Shock Remake demo available on Steam right now and I know that the final game will look better, but you know what? I like how the game looks now and I do not want it to be changed (and I hope it won't) cuz it's part of a charm and atmosphere, same goes for the first two BioShock games.

So how do these compare to the originals in terms of performance? I was going to pick them up on XB1 but seeing as I have them on Steam I'll go through these instead.

When I launch Bioshock Remastered it gives me a locked up PC, non responsive Keyboard and Mouse, Black Screen and all I can do is force a restart - nice port.

Bioshock 2 launches just fine.

Bio 1 has the best story, Bio 2 has the best DLC. Bio Infinite is a bad shooter with it's head planted firmly up its ass. It's loved and hated in nearly equal measure.

If you want to buy it to play a competent shooter, you'll be disappointed. If you want to buy it to enjoy a coherent and well told story......you'll also be disappointed.

Fuck that game.

Huh...played a bit. Kind of underwhelming to be honest.

Anybody having issues with using DS4Windows? I had no issues using a controller with the original, but it won't seem to recognize it in the remaster. The game starts with "gamepad on" in the options menu amd shows the xbox button prompts but won't take any input from the DS4 itself. Weird.

Mouse acceleration (seems to have worked):

Get BioShock Mouse Fix 1.2 from here; open the batch file in notepad and edit these lines:

From:

Code:
set "BioShock.ini=%AppData%\Bioshock\bioshock.ini"
set "User.ini=%AppData%\Bioshock\User.ini"

To:

Code:
set "BioShock.ini=%AppData%\BioshockHD\Bioshock\bioshock.ini"
set "User.ini=%AppData%\BioshockHD\Bioshock\User.ini"

Run and enter mouse DPI. Done.

Did they get rid of the stupid 30 fps physics in the first one?

From what I understand, it's possible to mod a higher physics tickrate into the original release. Not sure how well it works though.

This is may be a stupid question but how long are the upgrades free?

I don't think the offer expires. Just note that you can no longer purchase the original releases directly through Steam.

So twice ive had hard crashes to BSOD soon as I reach the lighthouse. Playing on a 1080.

Common problem or is it my system playing up?

I see the delay between audio and subtitle is still intact...

What a goddamn lazy port, glad I got this for free.

Buying either game/Minverva's Den now nets you both versions. The free upgrade applies to everyone, essentially, as 2K didn't even raise the price, which came as a surprise to me.
