Truthfully I've neve been 100% sure on what soft serve is and isn't, but I've had both and I always eat it with a spoon.

Neither. Ice cream is only worth licking it from a cone. Not much of a fan with it on cake or pie either. My tongue grabs the perfect portion for my mouth without freezing my mouth or giving me a brain freeze.

My family makes fun of me all the time but really, a fork does everything a spoon can do for ice cream, including being better at cutting it and being able to pick it up and lick it.

This is objectively false.

How do you imagine the straight edge of your fork is better than the curved edge of the spoon at cutting the ice cream?

How are the fork prongs better picking it up than the spoon?

How in the world is a fork easier to lick than a spoon?

What kind of tongue do you have?

I don't see anything wrong with a fork.

But then again eat popcorn with chopsticks so I don't like to get butter on my hands.

I use a spoon like a normal person.

The only time I've done this is when I didn't have clean spoons.

If I wash one spoon, I need to wash all of them.

If I'm washing all the spoons, I might as well wash all the silverware.

If I'm doing that, I might as well wash all the dishes.

If I'm doing that, I might as well clean the kitchen.

So, I settled.

Uh, not the straight edge, the fork part of the fork. It's pointy and cuts into the ice cream easily, and the straight edge works fine as well.

The prongs stab and skewer it, so the fork is surrounded by delicious ice cream, like a makeshift cone, if you will

A mudslide of fun!

What is wrong with you?

Spoon if it is by itself.

Fork if it is served with something like cake. Assuming it not melted into a puddle.

Was going to type pretty much this exact thing.

I ain't using 2 utensils in my dessert eating, so the ice cream gets the fork treatment

Yes, I do eat ice cream with a fork. I also eat soup with a fork (I've also eaten soup with chopsticks, it works quite well).

I've used a fork sometimes if I'm also eating a slice of cake or pie and the ice cream is firm enough.

If i'm at home i use forks. I have these tiny, cute cake forks that are just the best thing ever. I also have dented spoons which are ok i guess but just halfway there.

I just don't really like spoons and their concave shape.

I already think that people who eat rice using forks are crazy, but this is beyond belief. OP, you need to correct your batty behaviour ASAP.

If served with cake/pie: fork
By itself: spoon

I only use a fork if there's other things with it. Like cake or brownies.

Ice cream does not cease to be ice cream in proximity to a baked good. A spoon will pick up a cake or pie just as well if not better than a fork.

According to the Gastropod podcast, the material of the spoon you use will affect how the ice cream tastes.

When eating ice cream, scoop up a bite, turn the spoon upside down so that the metal of the spoon faces the roof of your mouth. Even a split second of contact between a metal spoon and your tongue is enough to numb the taste buds.
