PSVR Launch - Sales and Availability Annecdotal Evidence

One thing I LOVE on the internet during hardware launches are the stories of how well a product is selling at a particular store, region, etc. Post your PSVR stories here!

Howell, NJ Best Buy - walked in just after noon and they had 2 bundles and 4 core units on the shelf. I picked up one of the core units. Didn't get a chance to ask how they were selling as I checked out at the cell phone desk and the clerk wasn't aware that PSVR had come out.

Supply will be plenty unless word of mouth really picks up. Still quite an expensive accessory at that price for it to fly off shelves.

I won't be able to check out stores near me anytime soon, so I can't report there. However, in the U.S. it seems to be readily available to order from Amazon, Gamestop, and Best Buy with either next day or two day shipping.

I went to gamestop this morning in northern MA to use a $25 gift card. A guy was buying one off the shelf 5 minutes after the store opened. That's all I saw.

If Amazon has plenty in stock, you know demand can't be all that high (or conversely, supply is very high).

I'm interested to see how the sales pan out. When I stood in line to try it last week, everyone was around my age, 35, or slightly younger. Kids don't seem to really know what VR is and probably won't appreciate it as much as the older people who grew up on a dream of having VR one day. I think Sony is really going to have to do some major marketing around the holidays to get the much younger crowd interested. My nephews who are 13 and 10 have no clue what VR is

I asked a local Gamestop about it when I picked some games up Tuesday. He was saying that they'd have around 3 bundles and a few core units in addition to the ones preordered, and that 2 or 3 people had expressed interest in possibly coming by.

I'm really hoping to grab one at Best Buy tonight after work. My guess though is that the bundles will probably be sold out there, and every where by later in the evening, but then be readily available within the next week or two and then for a long time.

What 13 year old is in the market to buy a $400 add on to a $400 console, when they can do VR on their phone? The enthusiast VR market will be niche for the foreseeable future at the current price points.

My area (southeast Michigan) I'm within 30 minutes of I'd say 20 Targets and 10 Best Buys and they are all out of bundles. Not sure if they have any core systems.

FYI, I got the bundle from Amazon with one-day shipping to arrive tomorrow.

It's not sold out yet so they clearly got a decent amount of stock.

Anyone know Amazon's return policy with stuff like this? I'm curious about VR, but I'm wary about nausea.

I think Sony is going to target the older crowd until the tech is better and safer for kids. Sony already came out and said PSVR should not be used by kids under 13. They probably don't want a bunch of kids getting motion sickness or worse, seizures because that would be disastrous PR for them.

Out of stock on Amazon in the UK, with availability listed as November 14... not checked stores around me yet. Kinda just want to get one before Christmas, so I didn't bother with preordering.

But yeah, if Amazon is any indication, it seems like Sony may have underestimated demand in the UK.

Someone at work said that the GAME nearby was out of stock earlier today, apparently some guy was asking about it and the sales staff were saying not to worry about it since there's no games yet anyway, heh.

Edit: Oh and the stock checking function at Argos says that all stores within 10 miles (all 5 of em) are out of stock and that home delivery is also out of stock. Honestly surprising.

Not entirely sure, but I think returns are only allowed for defective units.

I went to pick up Rigs at a Gamestop in lower Manhattan.

They told me they had 3 headsets not reserved and they all sold at the midnight event last night.

Strolled into my Gamestop at midnight and just picked it up. It looked like they really didn't get much in stock at this location or maybe they opened up a bit early and the other people got theirs before I arrived. The one dude in line got the last unit they had, so I know they did sell out.

They don't ship until Monday. Look at the ship date.

I just noticed this as well, at least for the launch bundle. Looks like a slight delay but still not out of stock. I'll be interested to see if they do sell out. PS4 was literally impossible to find anywhere until like 3 weeks after launch. My launch unit had a defect and I had to settle for returning it for a refund as a result.

I just walked into a bestbuy on my lunch break and was able to pick one up no problem. They had roughly 4 of the core and 4 of the bundle behind their counter. Not sure if that was all of their remaining stock or not.

Granted this is in Canada so the price is a lot higher which may turn people off.

Was out and about this morning.

Saw two PSVR Core at Target (and a third in some guy's cart), and one PSVR Launch bundle at TRU next door.

I was mildly tempted (I had PSVR Launch bundle pre-ordered on amazon months ago but decided to cancel it and just get a PS4 Pro instead and re-assess PSVR in 2017), but had to pass.

That experience coupled with the Launch Bundle still in stock on amazon.com as of this writing gives me the impression that stock levels are pretty decent right now for people looking for one in the USA.

Did the same this morning.

I'm so stoked!

I tried a GearVR at Best Buy, in May then a PSVR a month ago - I loved these 2 fleeting moments and I'm ready.

I walked by the Gamestop on Market St in San Francisco last night on the way home from work and was able to get their second-to-last bundle. Guy right behind me got the last one.

At the 9pm launch, they had at least 40 people in line picking up / buying a PSVR? (I was #25, "bundle 19")

Anyways, it was cool seeing new people stoked about VR!

I bought the Bundle this morning, on Amazon @ around 8am - it WILL arrive tomorrow, next day shipping.

Of course I live in California, so might be why.

3 bundles at the Mall of Georgia Best Buy, didn't see any core units though. Their game shelf was also half empty, so it would appear the games are selling decently well, either that or they were either still boxed up or elsewhere in the store.

I picked up my PSVR core during lunch today and the GameStop employee told me there were people waiting outside when they came in this morning despite the fact that zero stores near me did a midnight launch for PSVR.

Argos stores in and around Glasgow, UK. It's been like this all day long. This is just the HMD.

I decided to run by Best Buy at lunch despite having ordered one online from Gamestop. I picked one up so I wouldn't have to wait at home for a delivery. Just like OP, my Best Buy had 4 core units and 2 bundles.

My Best Buy had a midnight release but I decided to just try my luck this morning. I walked in about 15min after they opened and they had probably 15 core headsets left, but were sold out of bundles. I grabbed the headset and the camera (already have Move controllers from last gen). Seems pretty easy to get ahold of.
