I just wish they had swapped the face buttons. I know they were first and MS swapped them for Xbox but come one. After Xbox 360 and XBO I don't remember that Y and X have swapped places.

Microsoft are the ones that need to change their WRONG layout.

It confuses me too. Maybe they'll allow remapping of the buttons like the other two, though probably not.

Just realized, I'm really bummed that they're not continuing the colored ABXY buttons they brought back on the New 3DS.

I really hope this thing is region-free, you know they Japanese are going to have much more interesting color options than the basic black and grey which we get in the west.

According to Emily Rogers, it's 720p, yes.
720p for that big of a screen? Oh lord, thats bad, real bad. I think the 720p sceen on a 4,7 display is too low. It shoud at least be 1080p for that size. Probably wont buy if the sceen has a lower res than 1080p.

This is also true. I think we all expected a 4-6" display and 720p was acceptable for that. But a screen this big this close to your face is going to look bad.

They have to think about cost. Jesus Christ some of you... If we had it y'all way this thing would cost $800+.

Be reasonable. 720p and longer battery life. Going to 1080p is going be a hit the portability for very little gain and an increase in price.

That's a fair point, but this doesn't make the resolution concerns less valid.

I still expect a 2 hour battery. Look how shitty the Wii U Gamepad screen is and how big the housing is. The battery is 2.5 hours max. Awful. They are stressing it is a home console first and foremost, so battery is surely not a priority.

1080p screen would be a bad idea. We'd end up like the Vita where many games were-sub native res, which looked awful.

On a dedicated gaming handheld, too high of a resolution relative to its horsepower is a bad thing.

In fact I'm pretty sure we'll still see a bunch of sub-native on that 720p screen still.

In the future, the Switch will not be the only console to support the new control scheme.

Does your uncle work for Nintendo

Wait and see first, you guys on Neogaf are some of the most notorious conclusion jumpers I've ever seen.

But my conclusions are based on my experience with Nintendo hardware and what they prioritize. The Wii U Gamepad and the 3DS series all have awful screens and awful resolutions with awful battery life.

It's the same screen size as the Wii U, which is only 480p. It's really not that bad.

Is it, really? The actual screen seemed much bigger to me on the Switch.

The Wii U Gamepad only has a 2550 mah battery in it, not designed to be a portable system, and meant to be light. The battery physically is such a small percentage of the controller.

That doesn't make your conclusion accurate.

This picture is so absurd.
Four people using tiny controllers with half the buttons with two Switches.

They are living in a dreamworld if they think people are going to be doing this often.
I think the key part is that it doesn't have to be a planned thing. Have your Switch and run across one other person who does too? If you're so inclined, you've already got all it takes to get a four-player game going. No "Shit, wish I'd brought my Pro Controllers."

As long as the joycons are comfortable to use solo this sounds pretty neat to me.

Looks neat, but extremely expensive to manufacture and sell.

Not if they're just shells. Think there was a rumour that Nintendo is aiming to make them cheap. Maybe they only work with they're attached to the tablet and there's no battery?

So is the joy-con grip accessory really an accessory? I'm trying to figure out if that's included in the box or if you'll have to hold the joy-cons like two Wiimotes unless you buy it.

This is pretty clearly meant to be a nice option in a pinch, not necessarily an ideal solution from a comfort perspective.

I've had so many situations where I'm with friends and we'd like to play 3DS, but at least one person doesn't have theirs with them.

Waiting for a developer to cripple their game's control scheme so it's only playable on a single Joy-Con.

While i was looking to see if there was an IR window for the controllers to communicate via infra red while attached (for power savings), noticed 2 symmetrical identations on top of each half when separated, like L and R buttons.

In the scene where the guys are playing 2 player Mario Kart you can see one of them hitting the top right of the button, like a shoulder.

Having a 1:1 button correlation to SNES layout is great for SNES and N64 VC gaming. Developers could make substantially complex 3D games for multiplayer out of the box since there would be an analogue stick, 4 face buttons, 2 Shoulders and 1 extra trigger below (think of the Wii Remote B when used NES style).

A shame we don't know if each half has motion sensors, since this would allow to map extra actions without the need of more buttons.

Yay! The superior asymmetrical analog configuration! Pro Controller for Switch on day one. Now, if only there were a wireless PS4 alternative that got this right...

Looking forward to learning if there will be larger versions of the Joy-con controllers. An updated Wii remote style controller would be awesome as hell.

It would make sense that it comes with the grip so it's a standard that all devs can use.

I doubt it. They wouldn't be using it in the main promotional image of the machine if it was an optional thing such as the Pro Controller.

The only thing I don't like of Switch from scratch is that the Joy L doesn't have a traditional Nintendo D-Pad, at least the Pro Controller has it. I get they did that so the Joy L and Joy R would be even but still.

I wonder if the Wii U Pro Controller and the Wii ones will be compatible with it, we can expect GCN controllers yet again if the thing has USB ports, heh.

Look closer. Here are two pictures and you'll see they're not the same.

Look at the girl on the left, it's a smooth surface, no lip. Now look at the closer up of the controller, there's a clear hard edge lip; it's not smooth. The controllers are different in that pic from the other controllers.

I noticed the same thing and was wondering too so thanks for raising the question!

But the biggest proof for the joycon shoulder buttons to me is the part of the video when they are playing mario kart in the van. There's a moment in which the guy on the right presses the right shoulder button! Can anybody make a gif of it?

Edit: ah, I see refreshment also noticed!
