UK:TF's first week sales on XB1 is more than the double amount TF2 sold on PS4&XB1

I dont understand how it could do so poor on the PC. Less than a 1000? Doesnt even make sense. Been a top seller at sites like GMG constantly.

And even considering the campaign is supposed to be great. Might just be encountering a major wave of FPS fatigue if this is the case.
or they didnt provide the missing features PC gamers wanted. So the community spoke accordingly.

Yeah highly doubt that. We live in a world where CoD will sell truckloads no matter what. Something else is at work here.

COD doesn't sell too well on PC either. Even after Trey arch jumped through hoops for black ops 3 to be the most appealing version. Had lots of PC only features there.

The PC crowd just doesn't like cod style games it seems.

Lmao 1000 sales on PC? Jesus.

Chart track only tracks physical, not digital sales. There are no physical discs produced on PC for Titanfall 2. The physical PC version of the game only comes with a digital code. So there's no reason to buy it a physical, PC copy.

Physical sales of PC games are almost dead, and when you're only offering a code for the digital version anyway, there's no reason anyone should pick that version up. The vast majority of consumers on PC will have bought the digital version, which obviously has advantages such as preloading.

It's missing some features that are make or break for a lot of PC gamers. Overwatch lacks some of them too but has a functioning party system, spectating, competitive matchmaking and can get away with it because it's a Blizzard game; their first new IP in 17 years too. It's also an Origin exclusive and the only franchise that can get away with it because of its legacy released a new game a week prior to Titanfall 2.

Maybe I'm mistaken with my interpretation here, but from my perspective it's a little awkward to watch people debating hypothetical explanations for conclusion they've drawn from an article they've clearly miss interpreted.

EA did everything wrong with this IP.

First they banked on the wrong horse by making it exclusive to the platform that sold worse. Now they are releasing it next to their other big MP shooter.

Companies spend millions of dollars on development then for some reason lack foresight on this release date. Then when the sequel comes and guts everything fans loved they will blame it on everything but the damn release date and lack of awareness of other games.

Would imagine the situation is only going to get worse as, by attempting to court the COD playerbase with their gameplay changes, they've already lost a portion of their original supporters and will see another segment leave when a new COD is an option.

I think this is a little melodramatic.

seems like you're judging this based on the beta, which was not representative of the final game. take a look in the ot, people who played the first generally love this one too.

Respawn should've stuck with MS. That's where the audience was. Game is dead. RIP,

I don't think it is this simple unfortunately. It isn't like the Xbox fanbase stuck around. Something has turned people away. Whether not liking the first game or not liking the changes from the first game to the second game to the launch date. Probably a combination of all three.

First game also had the benefit of coming out early in the X1 lifecycle when there weren't a lot of exclusives to play. Also launched in the spring and not during the fall FPS/CoD rush.

Honestly, I cancelled my COD preorder after playing Titanfall 2, and I now really regret getting Battlefield 1.

Don't think that would have done a thing. The first game tainted it too much and they didn't do anything to let people know how much more complete this sequel is.

I tried to get my group of friends who played TF1 together on PC to pick up this with me and every single one of them said no they're not paying full price for half a game again. They all either went BF1 already or are waiting on CoD now.

TF1 was not half a game, and that is completely on your friends for being misinformed. They have been upfront for a while this has a campaign.

Some good news, TF2 is crawling up on the Most Played section of Xbox. Went up about 10 spaces, although things like Battlefront and The Division are still ahead of it.

It's only tangentially related to the topic and it's been discussed on every second page in this thread so I won't belabour the point but there are lots of factors that were not addressed post-beta (and rightfully would be naive to think they would be).

New rodeo/shield system
Smart gun no longer a primary
Hero-style titans
Player highlighting and more visibility aids make approach more difficult and sniping easier
No AI in hardpoint
2 weapons - left choosing between anti-titan weaponry and sidearms

I dunno, it's on me to speak with my wallet that I don't agree with the changes they've made and I'm hard pressed to believe that there isn't a percentage of players doing the same.

Same here regarding Battlefield 1. I wonder how many people are in the same position but don't have the income to buy TF2 to know any better. That just leads back to the awful-timing-by-EA argument though I guess.

I have more than enough money and went with battlefield. Ill get titanfall in a couple weeks. Im sure a lot of people went with battlefield instead though. So easy for this game to get over shadowed. I don't get why people are shop afraid of winter. Get a hold marketing push in an empty season and you're gold.

Sucks, but not surprising.

What a fucking awful time to release it.

I've had to pass on it because I just can't justify buying it at the moment.

I really think the game will be fine long term, it's too good to fall by the wayside. In any event, I plan to play it until there's a 3, and my friends are hooked too.

The game was literally 1/4 of the price not that long after launch. All those months sitting in the bargain bins did the brand zero favours.

That being said, those are some fucking god awful numbers.

I really didn't expect them sales to be so low. It's a shame. They basically sent this title to die out there with the big boys around.

This is such a bummer, I was hoping to pick this up sometime later in the year or even beginning of next year. I hope the community doesn't die off so fast, the game does look like its improved a lot since beta.

Wonder if they'll try a different publisher next time, certainly can't hurt them anymore than EA has :(

I think FPS fans (the ones these publishers depend on) are tired of future/Sci-Fi shooters. It's just a hard sell unless you have a big name or big, big developer behind it (Bungie) who has acquired loyalists. Infinite Warfare is going to bare the brunt of this after Advanced Warfare, Black Ops 3, and yet another future shooter.

RoTTR (PS4) bombed in UK, and it looks like it's doing worse than XB1 version. But it has nothing to do with "alienating PlayStation Nation" (I hope), it just has no buzz or hype around it, after all this is a 1 year old port.

When did those numbers get released?

TF1 did have the hype of a new system release to go along with that fact that it released after the holiday system and was positioned as an alternative to the COD crowd.

marketing wise... a lot of it's charm (or bullet points) has been placed into other games... i.e... call of duty. so it's appeal is primally due to being a sequel of the first title that was overly hyped.

It doesn't stand out like BF1 and releasing in a time where AAA shooters are releasing every week???

well the game was sent to die.

it should have released earlier (August - September) or later (January - March) so the marketing campaign could be effective.

Activision has turned this into a positive. The best selling COD on amazon are the legacy editions which included modern warfare remastered at $80.

They may end up making the most money from a COD with IW even if it sells less units than the prior bestseller

Melodrama? On NeoGaf? Never!

I had no idea TF2 was even out until a day ago. I can't claim to have been following its development closely, but I saw no previews, no status updates, no hype whatsoever, and now it's like...just here. In the midst of a ton of other high profile shooters.

Seriously, have you been living under a rock? Even my girlfriend, who doesn't follow games at all gets ads for the game on her Twitter feed.

I really think the game will be fine long term, it's too good to fall by the wayside. In any event, I plan to play it until there's a 3, and my friends are hooked too.

No, you don't understand, rallying behind the game won't help it. Once NeoGaf has labeled a game as a bomb, you should abandon it because no one will be playing.

Hmmmm...I just bought this as my third in my B2G1 set over the Bioshock Collection because it'd be a new experience. I hope I don't regret it with a massive price drop during the holidays or a reduced user base.

Honestly hearing about how the first game had no legs, and this game possibly being similar, I'm hesitant to pick it up if the online community starts to die out. Especially on PC, which would be where I play it. So I guess I'm gonna wait and see on this one.

Title keeps confusing me because it's too ingrained to read TF2 as Team Fortress 2.
'Wha, it got popular on consoles all of a sudden?? ..Oh'
