My heart goes out to all non-caucasian, non-straight gaffers. Your fear shatters me.

You guys at the only thing keeping me from crying into a pillow.

Not really. It's not about race. It's about the money in your pocket.

It's about the money you hope maybe one day will possibly be in your pocket if you're lucky

I swear it's so fucking stupid, these people vote for Republicans because "I will be rich one day and they'll make my taxes lower!"

This.

Why the fuck should we coddle racists.

A) Nobody has said to 'coddle racists'. This discussion is coming up because, again, people are literally throwing all white people into this bucket because of a slight majority voting for a certain candidate.

B) ASsuming everyone is racist simply because they like a racist candidate is dangerous thinking. It primarily comes down to them thinking certain issues are more important. Period. Do I think it's right to do that? Obviously not, I didn't vote for Trump. But I do think it does no good to scream at the top of your lungs at somebody about how terrible they are if you expect them to take you seriously, because...

C) YOU NEED THESE PEOPLE. At least some of them. If you didn't, Hilary would've won. You are never going to meet anyone in the middle to work out the issues in the country if you close the door before the conversation begins. Plenty of them might not meet you halfway either, fuck those people, but if you won't do it either then you're never going to get anywhere.

Racist white people are a SUBSET of people in the country, a relatively small one most likely. Then you've got the 'diet racist' white people - which I think it's more accurate to describe as racially insensitive rather than racially hateful as people would characterize them. These are people that just don't care about racial stuff, maybe have misinformed opinions in many cases, but more than anything they care more about other aspects than race. THis is probably the majority component of what we're talking about. Beyond these people, are those that vote for Trump for entirely non-racial reasons, but actually are super uncomfortable with his racial assertions, these people are probably a small minority as well. Finally, you move to white people that didn't even vote republican. Not a majority, but a VERY large number (obviously).

When you start saying "Fuck white people" you're alienating every single one of those groups, when the reality is the only one worth alienating is the first one - the actual racist fucks. The only one you can AFFORD to alienate.

That's worked out well for minorities so far. You know the often stated "be empathetic, see from their persepctive. <summon mlk like a pokemon>".

At this point I can't even be mad at any minority who utters that kind of shit tbh. Because prior to this, minorities always took the higher ground. When their land was taken, communities burned down, them being hung and abused by both the people and government of this country. Minorities were always told "don't stoop to their level. Love and unity will drive out hate."

Yet here we are. If minorities taking the high ground got us to this point, why not say the shit white people say to them? The pretense for taking the high ground based on love overcoming hate was killed tonight.

Seriously. I don't wish for violence or anything of the sort. But I will be genuinely shocked if some serious shit doesn't start going down once the outcome of this election sets in and policies are getting implemented.

This outcome basically proved racism/sexism is alive and well when most people probably thought we were living in some #safespace utopia. I feel like a LOT of people had their eyes opened tonight.

As a gay man who's familiar with Trumps positions on LGB issues and ALL TOO familiar with Pence's long history of outright discrimination and thinly veiled hate, I feel like I'm going to wake up tomorrow morning in a country where my claim to the title of "human being" is going to dwindle by the day. Especially with Trumps self-sated willingness to give Pence unprecedented power from the Vice Presidential seat.

I'm not an American, but this will definitely hurt third world countries everywhere.

If the dollar goes down, our currency doesn't go up. It's tied too much to the dollar.

I fear our cost of living will go up. Just thinking of the gas prices makes me worry like you have no idea.

And the climate? It's already an inferno here. It's only gonna get worse.

Here's something GAF might understand.

Tolerance and love means listening to and respecting someone who voted for Trump.

If you can't do that, you don't get it.

Tolerance and love is not equal to delivering shrill sermons at people.

P.S. I didn't vote for Trump. I'm not white. Thanks!

Here's something you might understand.

Tolerance and love means respecting everybody.

If you can't do that, you don't get it.

Tolerance and love is not equal to blocking, ignoring, damaging and looking down on people who are different than you.

P.S. I'm not even from the US. I'm gay. Thanks!

I understand not wanting to be hostile towards all white people, especially the less fortunate ones, but at the same time let's not act like reverse racism is a thing now.

People of color are hurting right now.

Excuse my ignorance since I don't know much about politics, are Republicans against social security and Medicare? My dad voted for Trump and he's on Medicare and recieves a monthly SS check so I'm worried about that now.
Based on what Midwest Republican governors did, he might be fucked

Don't know much about how this all works, is there any chance at all of Roe v Wade being overturned in the future or was it just talk?

Days like these...

Have a Blessed Day
I'm Latino in Houston so not worried honestly. We'll get thru this. I was a hardcore Bernie supporter that put up with derision from Hillary gaf. Having said that, I would have much rathered Clinton winning the presidency than me saying I told you so.

I'm kind of alright now. I'm a brown muslim guy but living in NY I don't think much will change.

For my brothers and sisters out there in more rural areas... stay safe.

In the end noone can predict which candidate will be the better leader. So lets see.

Its kinda funny looking back at all the mocking and arrogance towards Trump from press and celebrities now.

Our country is too divided. And it's only going to get worse.

If by divided you mean that there's a disappointing amount of bigoted, uneducated white people that don't understand the world around them but also happen to be more invested in voting than the rest of the population.

I can't believe the United States of America choseDonald Trump to be their representative on the world stage. That's just so ridiculous it all seems like some kind of a weird dream.

This guy has no experience whatsoever and will be the Head of State. It's so ludicrous that I can't even find words to describe this,

But the Dow had a massive 356 point increase (no real reason in terms of earnings) then another 70+ point increase today. So even if the Dow is going to be down 800 points after the results of the election, it's only really down 400 so were looking at this past Fridays values.
As in, when everyone thought Clinton was going to win?

Trump will get to nominate supreme court judges, and will do so with a Republican House and Senate. So he'll appoint judges who want to abolish Roe v Wade. It's a real possibility
