I already have ps4 and I'm buying ps4 pro. I would like to pass my old ps4 to my brother. Is there any possibility of him playing games purchased (and future purchases) on my account but get achievements on his account? Something like family sharing on steam or something similar. There is no point in purchasing double copies of everything when we are under the same roof. Thanks for the help.

Yeah, just leave the old PS4 activated as your primary, but have your bro log on with his own account. He will be able to use all of the content and plus that are associated with your account. The only down side is that you will always need to be logged into PSN on your Pro in order to use your own content. If your Internet goes down or PSN goes down, you will only be able to play disc-based games.

If you deactivate all on the website, you wont need to do it on the devices as the website just did it.

Sorry I meant to reactivate them

Also my sons PS4 which he has his own account for is set as the primary console in the house so he can download my content. How will that be affected?

Am I insane for wanting to get the Pro mainly because my current PS4 is so crazily loud?

Honestly; that's one of the main factors for me, lol.

I just know my launch system is on the verge of dying, might as well replace it ahead of time.

I need the optical cable for my headset anyway.

I actually still have a PS3 I no longer own still activated

So if I "deactivate all" it's just a case of then going onto my Vita and PS TV(yes I am one of the few who owns a one) and reactivate them?

Yeah you can just hop on whatever devices you still have and reactivate them easily.

Got the pro today. The transfer from the old ps4 was easy enough. The build quality on the Pro is much better than my launch model, much more sturdy and less creaky.

I need to reinstall UC 4 ans Ratchet in order to see any difference with patched games and noise level. For the moment, it's the most boring console (re)release I ever had.

I wonder how good that wi-fi chip is because my OG PS4's wi-fi was HORRENDOUS and I had to use powerline adapters (which is 100x better, but still...).

How long did the transfer process take?

Yes, you can always activate and decativatae on consoles themselves. No restrictions.

But Deactivate All option can be used once in 6 months. Use it only when really needed.

What's the best upgrade & transfer path if I don't wanna hook up an Ethernet cable? Reason being, the 2tb drive in my PS4 is the same drive I wanna use in my Pro.

Can I just backup the entire contents to external USB on the old PS4, disconnect the internal drive, put it in the Pro, format & then restore from external USB?

Had mine for about 6 hours now and have ran it through its paces on bf1....uncharted and infinite warfare
Those hoping that this is silent compared to the orig ps4...got some bad news for you
The console is probably on par with the original ps4 at launch....when the console is under load it sounds almost identical.....would not be surprised if it's the same fan
But as most of us know it's not until a few months things start getting loud.

Going to wait for some teardowns online before I crack mine open to see if they have improved the inside flow of air or if I'm going to be busy again modding the case.

Slightly disappointed but there's s small glimmer of hope they have applied better thermal paste and the airflow is a more direct path

Maybe return it for a quieter model?

There are fellow gaffers that have near silent Pros.

Backup your 2 tb to an HDD (It's going to take you a while.) Deactivate the old console if you're planning to sell. Restore that 2tb to the new Pro after you have replaced the drive.

Thankfully the EB Games where I work is having a promotion where you get 210$ for your old PS4 towards a new one, so that and two controllers, a couple old Wii U games, some 3DS games and cancelling some preorders should pay for most of it. Titanfall 2, here I come.

Yep sounds great. Here's a copy of my post which goes into a lot of detail but obviously you can just use your spare drive you said you have.

One thing to bear in mind though is one poster pointed out that you should be signed in on all the accounts of the original ps4 when you do the full back up. I asked why this was but have no answer so I will also do this just in case.

AS FOLLOWS:-

Using Ps4 Pro Hard Drive As Original BackUp To Ps4 Before Swapping 2TB To Ps4Pro?
#217
So I think I understand how to do this but have a slightly different angle on it for 2 reasons:-

#1. I don't want to risk trying the Ethernet transfer connection.

This is because I always get the 'LAN NOT CONNECTED' on my ps4 (drives me fucking nuts so I'm forced to use Wi-Fi but as my office/games room has a shitty signal, I don't even bother playing online anymore. Had a recent thought though that I could possibly use my old BT Home Hub 5 as a Bridge or Wi-Fi extension as I have just received their new Smart Hub after lightning destroyed my last spare HH5).

#2. I don't have any spare HDD to back up my original ps4 (I've already replaced it with a 2TB) and I don't want to buy another to back up (would 'just' get away with 1TB if I delete some things/games).

So after reading all info/help, especially by univbee (which I've copy and pasted), I guess the following would work?:-

1. Still keep ps4 for now. Clear/Tidy data so using under 1TB.

2. Buy ps4 Pro.

3. Before turning on ps4 Pro, take out 1TB HDD.

4. Use old HDD Caddy (currently got a 500gb with pictures on). Take out 500gb 'for now' and then put 1TB ps4 Pro HDD into it.

5. Format 1TB ps4 Pro HDD to exFAT via my laptop.

6. Sync all trophies etc and as I don't have a spare HDD to do a Spare Backup, I will use an old USB Stick and Backup Game Saves (just in case it fucks up then at least I have game saves - the PS+ subscription is via my Son's account that is on this machine so I can't back up saves to the cloud).

7. Connect 1TB ps4 Pro HDD to original ps4 and use Backup Option in Settings to create a Full Backup onto this 1TB HDD.

8. De-activate my account as Primary and my Son's account as Primary (he doesn't use this ps4) on this old ps4.

9. Then Initialise this old ps4.

10. Get USB stick and download latest FULL firmware into a PS4/UPDATE folder onto it via my laptop.

11. Put USB stick FULL Firmware of PS4/UPDATE into ps4 Pro before putting HDD in and turning on.

12. Take out 2TB HDD from old ps4 and put into ps4 Pro.

13. Turn on ps4 Pro and update firmware using USB stick, go through initial setup, skip everything until get to dashboard.

14. Take out USB stick and attach 1TB HDD with Full Backup Copy (of original ps4) and then select 'Restore' from the Settings.

15. Once it's done it'll restart; all accounts will be signed out and deactivated but it should otherwise 100% match your prior install. Re-sign into your accounts, set the console as primary (I will do my Son's account AND my account as I have some free updated ps4 games from the ps3 days).

16. Put USB stick FULL Firmware of PS4/UPDATE into original old ps4 before putting 1TB HDD in and turning on.

16. Disconnect 1TB HDD and put back into original old ps4.

17. Turn on original old ps4 and update firmware using USB stick, go through initial setup, skip everything until get to dashboard.

18. Sell original old ps4 (now with 1TB HDD instead of 500gb it came with as I've still got some pictures on this).

19. Put 500gb HDD back into its CADDY

edit: Still asking how I can do the m0dus code round 2 but I don't know what to do. Anyone?

How long did the transfer process take?

about 50 min for ~150 go. I had a few trouble at first because the pro didn't saw the old ps4 when I hooked them up via wifi to the router. I tried via LAN and it worked.

I need to troubleshoot something because my old ps4 was type 2 NAT without the need to mess with my router, but the Pro is type 3 and I fear it will be detrimental to my online experience.

I just messed with the menu right now and I find the Store much snappier than before, don't know if it's placebo.

I should try vita remote play becaus eI had ton of issues with it before. Never had a perfect connection.

Made a crappy phPBB forum once ... once.
Anyone know if your saves are in the cloud you can re-download them without the respective game being installed?

It has a hissy fit if you try and copy a save from a mem stick to the PS4 if the game isn't installed, just want to know if its the same with your PS+ cloud saves.

Slim and Pro now has 5ghz/AC Wifi so if your Router is nearby using 5ghz could improve it

I put my original 500GB drive back into my launch PS4, reinstalled the OS and now I'm ready to take it to GameStop after work for Trade Value towards my pre-order.

Now I need to decide if I want to just keep the 1TB drive in the PS4 Pro after I get it or put my spare 2TB drive into it.

Does the 1TB drive in the Pro have any advantages?

m0dus putting in more work marketing the PS4 Pro than Sony :D

Seriously though: thanks for spreading some positive vibes today, man!

How long does it typically take to transfer via Ethernet cable? Let's say I had 400 GBs worth of data on my old PS4. Are we talking hours?

EDIT: Nevermind, saw the same exact question above. But since I'm here, would the Ethernet transfer work with PT?

Don't have the time to restore all 1.5 TB. I'll just reinstall and download saves/patches. It'll be much quicker.

Really happy with my Pro.
Tested a few games where I experienced hair dryer / jet engine noise level on my old PS4. It's all gone on every game now :)
The pro looks really nice in person.
Tested Infamous with pro patch, which runs so much smoother now, when choosing unlocked framerate.

Hyped for what's coming in the future for the pro.

Same problem happens. Can't put the save on there from anywhere until the games installed.

Was meant to get my console yesterday from Sony Australia but they didn't ship/deliver it even though all the stores (EBgames) etc got them. Sony didn't deliver to people who bought from them on their online store :/ Bit annoyed about this.

While I'm happy for the theme I got... Is there any Dynamic Themes that are around snow? Maybe a snowy town or forest?

listening to the horror stories of the time it takes to backup your hdd took me about 3 and a half hours for 800GB i was presently surprised. PS4 deactivated and and i put the stock 500GB hdd back in and its eady to give to gamestop tomorrow :)

Same here. Tested Ratchet & Clank and that game is clean as fuck.
Titanfall looks better too.

Now bring on all them Pro enhanced games. Hopefully some more older games will get a patch.

Knack wasn't patched yet i think.

Console isn't loud in my case :)) Hopefully that goes for all of you.
