Halo 5: Guardians |OT5| Is HaloGAF irrelevant now?

Key line there, "had it worked". Still pisses me off that no one at MS (including Spencer) thinks that this game is worth the time and effort to fix and do properly.

This to me is baffling for something that they consider their premiere franchise. Its why ive lost a ton of respect for 343.

Frankly, this isn't 343's call. Ultimately it's MS proper that is the one who actually controls MCC's fate.

In case anyone missed it yesterday, she said yes.

Awesome I wish them the best

Apropos of nothing, I was cleaning out some old files on my computer. Not sure I ever actually used this for anything.

Just felt the need to quote this because it's great.

We're reaching out to let you know we ran into some issues trying to process your recent order. As a result, we've canceled your order, but you can contact us here if you'd like someone to look into this for you.

Heads up, you get an email for each pack you attempted to order. Also my points haven't been refunded... :/

Same email.

Yet no refunded points. I'm gonna email them and remind them they were digital codes of unlimited quantity that they seem to be unable to fulfill.

What time did the GF end? I fell asleep and woke up at like 5am est and it looked like it was still going on but that can't be correct, right?

Just started the titanfall 2 campaign and its awesome. Really hope 343 takes notes, a halo 6 campaign featuring platforming using what I'd assume to be halo 5s movement would be ace. While I don't want wall running, a single player level teaching and using more advanced techniques such as thrust slide jump, auto stabilize, and incorporating ground pound into movement would be awesome.

Well... okay. Sorry guys.

EDIT: But I also got the "Sorry your order has been cancelled" email, too. I got 12 out of the 19 I ordered, so good luck!

I'm gonna be sad if the anniversary playlist ever goes away. 343 if you reading this please keep it forever! Love the straight up pistol matches haha

Woah just played a Warzone Firefight (we ended up winning!) and all of a sudden I ended up with 3 gold req and 3 silver req packs. Are those usually just random or do you get a lot when winning a Warzone Firefight like that? I think this was my second time winning but don't remember getting anything like this last time

Rank 117 achieved the Master Chief has blessed my Gamertag

Congrats! And holy crap level 117 is high. I'm still lowly level 23 haha.

The REQ packs are for finishing commendations, you'll stop getting them after a few games. It's not something per-match.

Thank you! in the first Firefight matches you will get a lot of REQ packs after a while you will get less

That's... crazy.

These broadcasts are wayyy too long. They need to find a way to condense them.

It came down to the tournament structure, which wasn't conducive to the number of teams in attendance + the fact that the championship bracket didn't begin until the open bracket was complete.

1) they need more side stations
2) they need omni-view to facilitate side station streams (like ugc had)
3) they need should have had pro's playing throughout the weekend.

Hopefully millenialesports learns from this and improves

Edit: here's how mlg days they would have done it

Open brackets are not easy to run, and it is very formulaic with schedule planning. The pivots are:
  • How many days do you have to operate the bracket
  • How many hours per day
  • How many teams
  • How many stations (station count must adhere to 8, 16, 32, etc for Open)
When you don't start pro play in parallel with Open bracket, you add exponential time to the event and impair your programming:
  • The 'next bracket' cannot start until Open completely finishes. This adds unnecessary rounds compared to a pool play in parallel scenario where teams that win losers bracket quarters go to championship bracket losers and winners bracket semis automatically make it to Pool play.
  • You cannot start Pro Matches for stream until Open finishes. This means Pros sit on their ass until late Saturday night or Sunday. Why would you run a premiere event and have your stars on the broadcast bench until the end?
  • A deficiency of stations means they will have more heats per round until later rounds. This is a huge barrier to schedule efficiency.
Here is what they should do:
  • Pro teams start in pools, 12 total teams. 4 stations are dedicated to pool play, 1 per pool (counts main stage). Starts Friday.
  • Open bracket runs in parallel to Pool play. 16 stations are dedicated to open bracket. Starts Friday.
  • The 4 semi final Open bracket teams do NOT play out their matches and move to Pool Play
  • The 4 teams from loser bracket quarters go to Championship losers bracket
  • 2 teams advance from each pool to Championship winners bracket
  • 2 teams fall from Pools to Championship losers bracket
  • Pools run Friday/Saturday, Open runs Friday/Saturday, Championship bracket begins Saturday evening and finishes on Sunday.
This format allows you to have a scalable and massive open bracket while having a fully programmed out main stage + Bravo stream broadcast with pro matches. Win.

Would have been faster... but i don't think it determines the two best open teams, which was the point of the weekend. Still, tweaked to fix that this it would've been faster.

Adam is such a good guy. Instead, 343 hired Mr. "Congrats to whoever won whatever"

He's gone now, but the damage has been done.

Well it should have been an easy call. People respect developers that support their broken games. Look at BF4. Until recently, it was still being supported and patched. That went a long way for the community and just look how well BF1 is doing now. People are much more willing & likely to "invest" in a franchise when they see the constant incredible support.

Its easier to support a game (like H5) when everything is working right. But when the game doesn't (like BF4 and MCC) thats when you see what that developer is really made of. Will they go all out for the franchise that they love or will they bail on it? Dice didnt bail on BF4, 343 did on MCC and quite frankly, im not impressed by their actions.

That's my whole point. 343 didn't develop the game. They duct-taped it together with the work from a half-dozen studios. It was ultimately Microsoft's fault for not properly testing it before release, and it's ultimately Microsoft's fault for not putting the resources into it to fix the remaining concerns. But 343 ≠ MS here. It doesn't matter if 343 people wanted to fix the game, at some point MS clearly said "we've done what we should have to."

Thats true but they have some accountability as well. I think both MS and 343 are at fault here. Still really pisses me off cause this franchise is the only reason im still a gamer today and for it to get such a botched game (on the version that really imo mattered the most), it really makes me angry and skeptical about both MS and 343s ability to consistently deliver high quality experiences with Halo.

One thing that irks me about 343 is that they don't really keep track and update a lot of stuff they put out. They updated Breakout but no one cares, Action Sack is cool but new games should be rotated in, BTB gets updated with the help of the community (because 343 are allergic to proper BTB maps I guess) but most of the maps have shit frame rate and it's even acknowledged but never fixed, Warzone Firefight released in June and hasn't received a single update to keep it fresh, tons of great feedback to make FFA more fun yet the mode is ignored. I mean the list goes on and on...

Well look, i think this is just going to repeat a lot of things that have been said multiple times already. But yes, i agree. Theyve done some things really well, like the CUs and other things have just been below average. Like the playlist updates, like the maps, like just listening to the feedback and updating a mode like WZ for example to make it more fun.

I mean if they listed to the feedback for warzone, that mode would be so much more fun. But they dont do anything about it. They just leave the mode running for months without any real changes. So people end up leaving and playing other things.

Its as if they dont have one vision as a studio. Its almost as if they have different people with different visions, different ways of working, and they just let them run their projects/departments however they see fit. No updates to warzone? Ya sure no problem...I mean whats the problem here?

I personally think that 343 need one person with a vision to lead Halo. Kinda like Jones was to halo when Bungie had it. 343 dont have this and thats imo their biggest problem.

^ they actually did update Warzone FF the goblin jockey update, but point taken

343 just makes it really hard to be a halo fan. So many deficiencies that MS' studios should not be suffering from.

There's no LAN support
The servers are Unreliable.
Melees don't register.
There are still fewer arena modes than H:ce launched with
BTB was an after thought
The UI/UX is still a mess
-can't party up, sell multiple req items, etc
The Team Arena playlist is a disservice to both esports and casual players who WILL NEVER be pleased with Universal settings

The list goes on

After H4, MCC, I'm just knew they'd knock it out the park with this game to show they are worthy of the mantle...

I meant more like:

- why not let me spawn at whatever base i want after i die
- why not let me spawn with a full clip of ammo
- why are you putting me across the map if the core is at the complete other side
- why cant there be "base" vehicles on the maps

that type of stuff

Yeah, its as if they dont play their game. Its crazy. Last week, we were at the last round of WZ and my team was getting destroyed so i said "fuck it" and i used one of my legendary cards (a tank). Guess what happens, its a round where the warden is hiding like a coward in the back of that base and they spawn me guess where......at the complete opposite base.......Theres like a minute 30 seconds left in the round and i think we all know how speedy the tanks are.

Soooo 90% of my time was used just getting to the fucking base. Got there and didnt have time to kill him so we lost and i wasted my card. How is that fun? The game has been out for over a year now and this isnt a new problem.

This is the type of stuff that they just dont get. The little things like that, when done right, can go a long way. But when theyre ignored, people get frustrated and go play something else.

I will disagree. MS had nothing to do with MCC beyond giving a budget and a release date. 343 does the hiring of the studios, keeps them in line. That is the goal of producers like Dan Ayoub. 343 is MS here. They are solely responsible for Halo going forward. What do you expect MS to do? In fact, it seems it was a 343 call to have all games playable with one UI. Additonally, 343 announced they would have betas going forward. Remember, at the end of the day, 343 is launching the game. They receive the finished product of the other studios, they build the final product, they are responsible for back end servers, polishing, manufacturing and publishing the game. For months leading upto launch, issues with the game crashing at events and during matches were chalked upto it being a beta. Even launch night, people struggling in New Zealand and Australia were treated as if it was their low population causing them issues and to wait for the Uk and NA to receive and start playing.

343i's matchmaking sustainment sucks. If I were being extra-cynical I would say it's because they assign the Z-team to sustain, but more likely it's just that the sustain team gets shafted in terms of resources.

It's a little absurd to me the amount of community-generated content created, versus the amount that actually gets implemented into matchmaking. They could basically crowdsource a big chunk of matchmaking content for zero dollars with community-modded test playlists or custom browsers (imagine if they had that and you could thumbs-up maps or gametypes!).

But god forbid they invest in tools to do that, instead of half-assing the same matchmaking system we've had since 2004, or implementing content nobody asked for, like Breakout.

People seem to think that a massive worlds tournament and two seasons of pro league came out of thin air.

I dunno... yes we had those things, and world's was great, but pro league handling has definitely sapped much of the excitement around halo esports.

The focus on online instead of live events during season 1 was a mistake. And the existence of live events this season was an improvement, but their handling and scheduling has been sub par.

By far, The best ran open h5 LAN events have been totally unaffiliated with HCS.

Che did a job. But if the expectation was that his handling would help keep up the momentum following Worlds, i can't say he succeeded. The constant discontent displayed by the pro-am scene is a testament to that. The post Vegas sentiment is as bad as its ever been. A tournament full of so many awesome moments is being over shadowed by the dissatisfaction over the handling.

Let's be real here Jem, aside from the exorbitant amounts given by the HWC, nothing has been world class for any of the events. Regionals and X-Games probably the best run and they were handled with MLG help. Pretty much every major game has a similar eSports scene which is the bare minimum required by an AAA especially shooter franchise and I watch HCS all the time. Despite the great job Tashi and Bravo and the eSports team do, the great casters. It really feels amateur. Even pros like Mikwen and many other have said that the LAN events have been poorly run. Just look at HCS Vegas. 3am finish final leading upto Monday? Casters struggling after almost 15 hours etc.

I know I said this already but please don't ever take away the Anniversary playlist, please
What they could do is add more maps and gametypes to it. Like work on those Halo 2 maps with BR starts, and throw in some gametypes with the "Evolved" settings that has a 4sk H5 Pistol as the starting weapon, no Spartan Abilities, etc.

Me and my friends have been talking about Halo 5 and 343 today and we spoke about all kinda stuff.

Campaign, We all agreed it sucked, the lack of modes in MP, server problems the great gameplay and so on.

We just wanted to find a good logical reason for all these bad decisions.

343 made halo 4 and it came packed with MP content, Halo 5 didn't. Its really hard to believe it came from the same studio.
So the only good reasons we could come up with is:

1- The game is rushed. Like they had to release at that state.

2- They felt comfortable to release it and it was the best they could do.

3- Halo 5 was a side project and they are busy with whatever(Halo 6) So it works as a bridge.

My friends believes its the latter.

Why would they cut so many modes when they have previously released it in Halo 4? Its just doesn't make any sense.

UI is a step down from all previous Halo's.

Gameplay is the best out there, not just as a halo game. But as a shooter. The best I've ever played.

I hope they dont mess with it in Halo 6, like adds wall running and what not.

Campaign.....
