Guerrilla Games announces Decima Engine (Death Stranding, Horizon, Killzone)

Yeah before Sony wined and dined him and send him on a road trip with Mark Cerny.

Cerny even just said that on the tech side things turned into more of a collaboration than they thought. I bet that's true for much of the project. It was initially thought to be more of a partnership, but as Sony has given him free reign to all of their resources it's grown to far closer to an in-house first party project than predicted.

Death Stranding is practically 1st party.

SIE funding and publishing.
Cerny (PS4 lead architect) is the Technical Producer.
Guerrilla Games engine.
SIE visual arts studio doing all motion capture work.

PC release was mentioned at the project inception (prior to choosing engine) but I'm not so sure anymore.

Probably PS4 exclusive to start with and maybe a PC release 6-12 months after I'd guess.

So.. does this mean its now PS4 exclusive? That kind of stinks since I remember it being said to be timed and then coming to PC.

I would think so. I find it incredibly hard to believe that Sony would let such a large game go to pc when they are basically providing for everything (they are funding, provide the engine, and also own the IP if I'm not mistaken). The statements about pc were also most likely made before anything was solid, and probably very much subject to change (can't say for sure of course).

The fact they are using the same code base is amazing, 2 devs known for creating amazing tech collaborating on this level mindfuckingblown.

I'm just going to wait for an official announcement on the exclusivity. Going to be annoyed if it is exclusive though.

Sony own the IP
Sony own the engine.

The only "proof" of a PC version was some moderator on the PlayStation EU forums saying it might come to PC after the Kojima x Sony announcement last year.

This thing is locked down tighter then North Korea.

What?
He himself said it.

In a Q&A also issued by the company, as published by Medium, it was revealed that Sony is not investing in Kojima Productions, and the unnamed game in question "is planned to become available on PC" after its PS4 release.

The Q&A is now deleted, but you have his literal words.

Herman looks so smug on stage right now thinking "that's right motherfuckers, Kojima chose US"

Really excited to see Kojima work with these guys.

Ok, puzzle me this, why does non of the Death Stranding trailers have "Only on PS4" branding? All actual Ps4 exclusives carry that mark.

Lol Kojima using this engine is actually making me more interested in Horizon than before. Those location shots looked really good.

I doubt Sony cares as long as they can advertise it as a PS only game.

It'll be interesting, as technically the team that ported MGSV was Koji Pro LA. Sony would have to be okay with Kojima finding an external porting team or working on it with their own funds internally (perhaps with a third party publishing partner). They'd also have to be comfortable with someone optimizing Decima for PC, which is probably no easy task.

Until there is clear word currently that the game is coming to PC, I would take whatever was said in the past to be with a huge grain of salt. Would love to play it on PC (although probably wouldn't since it would be a late port) but it seems very unlikely to me.

When Kojima met Guerrilla they introduced themselves and handed him this

That's the source code to Decima. He said they gave him that before any deals or contracts were in place.
That is absolutely incredible. What a gracious thing to do for him. Excellent work, Guerilla.

I believe that is what's known in the business as a "baller move." Very smooth, Guerilla.

My main question is. Did the engine was already named like that??? Before they even met Kojima i mean.

There's so many symbolisms in the name that makes me think it's not.

Guerilla and Kojima Productions will work together and share work to improve each others' codes like with Sony internal studios.

Looking forward to see how next Guerilla game will look like.
