Where is all of this weaker than the PS3 talk coming from?

It's underwhelming, but I look at it like saying you can play Mario Kart 8 with a few extra bells and whistles and 1080p at home, or 720p on the go.

It's not that bad.

My level of care: zero percent.

I'm critical of many things Nintendo does. (Always-online Super Mario Run makes me want to scream.) But I'm just not concerned about power and graphical fidelity in the Switch.

The 3DS continues to be my most-played system. If the Switch is just a new medium-powered handheld that I can also play on my TV, I'm stoked.

Gaf likes to pretend its a hardcore gaming community but its about as casual as can be in reality with pockets of actual knowledgeable people

Funny what perception does. For instance, I wouldn't be surprised if you told me some of the same people believed Vita is as powerful as PS3.

Edit: Whoops, need to get my architectures straight (was thinking in terms of Maxwell architecture instead of the wiiu's older architecture). Sorry about that.

If it is just from others, why did they write this?

And thousands of people claimed to be inside leakers and leaked stuff on reddit, 4chan etc. etc.

There were only 2 legit leaks regarding the switch.

1. was the "zelda" leak on gamefaqs and from SMD64.

2. was Laura with the stuff before the announcement.

And also there are only 4 individuals, who could have been real leakers.

Emily rogers, but yeah still waiting for mother 3 and female link

Eurogamer, but I really didn´t enjoyed the switch announcement in september + mother 3

SMD64, but yeah still don´t see the super ps4 pro killer machine

Laura.

Because it was true? You're trying to make something out of nothing here. Many people announced the rumour and they reported on that just like every other news outlet did at the time. You're trying to make something out of nothing here. For hardware reports they've been totally rock solid. We've no reason to doubt this latest report

LKD has said this since Eurogamers article went up

Which doesn't make sense if the system features a standard CUDA core count.

The second tweet is pretty much the main takeaway I get from all this and what people should be expecting.

Well, from what we saw of Zelda, the system is definitely not as powerful as a Wii U when undocked.

You mean the part where undocked Zelda ran better on Switch than the Wii U footage they showed on TGA?

True, current speeds combined with the Tegra X1 specs would put the Switch handheld mode in a very similar power range as WiiU. Wonder how she draws her conclusion about it outperforming the WiiU.
Better cpu, more ram, more modern gpu/api, fp16

In that sense, the Switch feels like a true successor to the 3DS and they have essentially exited the console space.
It's more like the successor to the 3DS successor. Squarely a handheld though, Nintendo's likely been planning their console exit awhile now.

Spec Wise handheld mode is basically a Portable Wii U. It does have a more modern architecture so it will have advantages here and there. Its very much the same way the Wii U while lower flops than PS360 was superior due to the more modern gpu.

1. It really is a portable, I guess.

2. Better be cheap.

3. We witnessed the end of Nintendo's home console business and didn't even realize it.

So once again Nintendo have failed to unveil a real 8th gen challenger.
Imagine if they just made a straight-up power-packed home console with a good controller.

I'm going to assume that part of his post was making fun of the post he was quoting.

How powerful is it? I'm not a PC gamer so I don't know about clock speed and shit. I just skimmed through the first page (which is my b I'll admit) and saw a bunch of disappointment and a dude saying it's considerably weaker than PS3. If that's not the case though then where's it actually sitting?

I wonder what the mandate is for third party games in terms of tablet mode.

Can they just say "Fuck it, tablet mode doesn't work for this game"?

Because I foresee lots of Devs struggling on those tablet specs.

It's still considerably more modern with more RAM and memory bandwidth. It will outperform in those areas easily. So keep that in mind as well when comparing their performace

Although LKD has a better track record than other twitter and GAF insiders.
Most of the stuff is pretty much just "confirming" the hottest rumour like suddenly everyone were capable of confirming Eurogamer's first and most important leak.

The track record for truely new things is so fucking bad, it's not even funny anymore.

It is a leap over Gen 7, for much the same reasons Vita was over Gen 6; architectural improvements. Also a pretty huge memory jump (from 512MB to 4GB).

The clocks are low, but Vita even had it worse there (333 MHz CPU, 111 MHz GPU). There's a reason Sony never announced those specs.

And to be fair, the Vita did manage to run this:

the outlets I was speaking of (emily rogers and eurogamer specifically) have a solid track record, they're clearly more reputable than random reddit or 4chan poster

and like I said even if the game never comes to fruition things change and what we can glean from the rumors is that at one point Mother 3 coming out was a thing. hell, it's even foreshadowed in the Nintendo Digital Event from E3 a while back.

I wouldn't expect a big difference between docked and not cause they probably want the game to run close to each other in quality. A big difference would give us some horrible versions of some games when portable..

Somebody please.... In GFlops numbers

WiiU=?
Switch docked=?
Switch undocked=?
Vita=?
3DS=?
XboxOne=?

176
350ish
150
56.2 @400Mhz
0.6 (New 3DS ups this to 4.8 GFLOPS)
1300

And almost none are directly comparable for different architectures, but they speak to rough ballparks.
Switch's Maxwell 2 at 150 for example is more powerful than the AMD 4000 series at 176Gflops in the Wii U.

It looks powerful enough to run Nintendo games.... what's the problem?

Were people thinking it was going to be a cross platform powerhouse? With nintendo devoting all it resources to one platform it's not like the third parties would have a chance anyhow.

The article says the difference is a 2.5x increase in clock speed, to allow for 1080p rendering when docked.
