so, do i need to play the first one and is it backwards compatible? probably been answered but thought i'd ask. sorry if i offend. and i still have my 360 hooked up, so that's not an issue, just wanted to play with my elite con.

From the impressions here I was hyped.

Started it up and it looked and felt good but then.....

It ends up 80 percent like a Indie game with a lot of forced 2d side/over head views that completely breaks me away from the typical 3d parts. What gives?

If this is how the whole game ends up then that is really disappointing and I don't get the hype. I always had the first game on my must play list but is the first game also like this?

Hype seriously deflated. Strangely enough I do like shooters but would rather the game be 80/20 and make the shooter parts more special or memorable like other games of the action genre.

it keeps getting better. i have a rusted clump, a natural rubber and a burning desire to get down with both hands (swords you perverts).

edit: and this game is beautiful (the art style not overall graphics power). would like to see a pro patch for some hdr and 4k in the future if it didn't hurt the framerate too much.

How good have guys gotten at weapon load out switch mid combo? I would imagine that it's going to get crazy in the full version with all different combinations possible.

Genre shifts like that (character action to bullet hell to side scroll to character action again) is what sets it apart.

The first game had 2d sections, but it was almost entirely 3d with bullet hell elements. It also used a
text-based adventure game
for one segment.

ok, i'm sold. gonna hunt down a copy. had no idea that was the case. my buddy tommy just raved about the story and wouldn't give me any spoilers. he never mentioned any bullet hell. of course he may actually not know what bullet hell is now that i think of it. he mostly plays rpg's and sports games (he's a unique fellow, to say the least).

Working on it. There aren't that many practice sandbags except the big guys and they're pretty sparse in the demo. Managed to do a couple of cool things already, though. Haven't actually toyed around with 2B's bare hands, too.

*Still trying to beat very hard mode

Wish there is option to turn off the HUD.

Holy SHIT.

Now, this isn't my genre of game at all, I'm terrible at ARPGs, and this point is only made stronger if we're talking about Japanese ones in particular. I didn't particularly bat an eye to Nier when it came out either for that same reason..

But this... this was something special. I don't think I've enjoyed a demo as much as I have since Bioshock came out. This is how you do a fucking vertical slice of a game. Exhilarating from start to finish, switching gameplay up just enough and just so often to keep things fresh but also revolving around the same few mechanics so you have a chance to get to grips with them. Not to mention there was no overbearing tutorial and it put you in the hot seat really quickly. And once you actually started doing stuff, my god. The animation, the smooth movement, the responsiveness, the grace of it all, including the looks.

Again, not an ARPG expert here but from what I have played in the genre this felt like the least jankiest (one of my pet peeves in gaming in general), most buttery smooth and SATISFYING gameplay experiences I've ever had.

I'm floored and could not possibly praise what I just played enough. I wouldn't have even downloaded it if I wasn't at my parent's and had unlimited bandwidth to waste, but I'm so happy I did. I wish I didn't have so many games I've overcommited to in 2017 already or else this would be an insta-purchase :(

Just sensational, wow.

It breaks up the action and allows different gameplay possibilities. I don't see the downside...

i'm working on it as well. as soon as i realized you could swap sets i started fiddling with it. damn i love platinum. i really need to get around to playing the wonderful 101. i have a wii u and a copy, just never got around to it. so far i have liked all of their games but vanquish. and trust me, i tried with vanquish. three different times over the years. it just never clicked with me. bayonetta actually took me trying a second time after giving up on it. glad bayonetta clicked.

I do like the star fox like areas and boss parts honestly, I just never knew the first game was like that at all or this one too lo

I can live with it but the side scrolling parts are the ones I like least cause they feel cheapest.

If they give me more mech stuff and star fox like shooting arrangements I'll probably love it.

I will still play them both with the slight issues I have of course :) Hope the boss battles end up as nice as I hope since Star Fox like games have disappointed a lot for a long time now.

When good games are good I don't really watch videos or lets play too often when I have a good feeling about something. It's the bad games I watch more before thinking of buying or playing.

Should I expect more hover around boss battles, at least 8 or so through out the game? I'll be very happy with that

I always looked at it as being a AAA semi corridor/3d game but I was obviously very wrong and was surprised to get this I guess. I just don't care much for the side scrolling stuff mostly because games post 16 bit era have made them flat and boring unlike their nice designed 16 bit games. This is all my opinion of course but that's how these things have felt to me for a long time. If it was more contra then I would probably have a different tune on those parts at least. I will still play through this though as it does enough that I like.

But Vanquish is their best game!

The way B2 moves is just perfect, the animation is flawless and I love how authoritatively she runs.

The perspective shifts are so well done it's insane. This goes from Shmup to ARPG at the height of the genre and back again on a dime.

Insanity.

Seriously I suck ass at this (dodging the orbs confounds me) but I am absolutely in love with it.

It feels like the original just with a top level all time P* game attached to it.

Just curious, is there any little bonus thing for beating Very Hard?

I'll probably end up trying to this weekend. Can't get enough of the demo!

There is. You take off the chips that added HUD elements there should be separate chips for each feature.
That is actually a really fucking snazzy feature in the game for two separate reasons. One is the fact that you can adjust the stuff that is visible on-screen at a quite detailed level. The other one is that since the chip-slots are clearly limited and even the HUD ones take up some of that space, you might end up removing some of those HUD chips to make room for some that actually buff up your character.

Just think about it. They made the game HUD an actual, adjustable in-game element that you might get partially rid of to power up your character.

future GOTY

Gotta love when a game has all these little QoL elements within it. We really take it for granted sometimes.

Jist started playing this:

Her ass is EXTREMELY PROBLEMATIC. COT DAMN. my mind is blown at how detailed it is down there. You can see her flesh fold over her thigh highs! Well I didn't look, but a friend of mind described this to me.

My friend also said that if you try to look up her skirt for too long she shoos you away lol!

Finished up the demo and enjoyed it for the most part. The gameplay was engaging and the camera changing angles was really cool. Never played any Nier game before this one but I found the foggniess around the environments annoying.

Reminder, Yoko Taro never makes the same game twice. I wouldn't be shocked if he did a happy ending just because he's never done it before and had his own take on it.

He makes the same 4-5 endings every time though.

If he did a happy ending I would actually be really unhappy, it's like the antithesis of his storylines. This one should end with the androids finding out that humans have actually been extinct for thousands of years and the Moon is actually populated by millions of deformed fetuses which got there from a portal to Drakengard's world.

Think this one will be going in the buy list after the demo. Wasn't really on my radar but was slightly interested. The gameplay felt fun because I guess the change up in styles. The level design and graphics are rather generic and rustic but the boss and gameplay all seemed rather varied and interesting which was what made it special.

This is...pretty damn good. I went through the demo on Hard after reading the difficulty explanations. I thought it was strange that it would remove lock-on. After playing it, I now get why.

An action RPG bullet hell that goes from 3D to 2D and back again. Strange.

Never played NieR so I have no clue what's up.

I made the mistake of playing this demo before finishing FFXV... ..............................

Lmao dude same. If FFXV had the same camera as this game (or any other Platinum or Capcom character action game), it would solve a huge problem I have with it.

After playing this game I now need to play NieR ASAP
Combat in the first game is not nearly as good as this though.

Pretty great demo. I like how it showed off a good variety of game play changes like the first NieR.

Kind of crazy to see how many people are getting into it though. It'll be interesting to see how everyone who hasn't played Nier/Drakengard before like it lol.

Revengeance was the last best demo I played so I'm pleased to see Platinum deliver again judging by this thread. Downloaded it overnight and now I CANNOT WAIT TO PLAY IT TONIGHT! 😆
